BROWNSVILLE (WABC) --
A 3-year-old boy's death is being investigated in Brooklyn. His body was found badly bruised and it was too late for paramedics to try to save him.

"Please! Tell me it's not him," said a family member.

On darkened block in Brownsville Wednesday night, disbelief became despair.

The family of 3-year-old Ethan Ali is overwhelmed with misery.

"He was so vibrant," a family member said.

At around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, someone called 911 and reported Ethan was unconscious. Sources say when police arrived they found him battered and bruised and not breathing.

Paramedics pronounced him dead.

Family members say the 3-year-old was in the custody of his mother. His father, Tony Ali, had been trying to get him back.

"His only child and he wanted custody of him and they wouldn't give it to him, they were to go back to court the 24th of March to get custody," a family member said.

Police will say little about the investigation. Sources tell Eyewitness News detectives are questioning the boy's aunt, who'd been watching him when the 911 call came in.

BRYAN, Texas (AP) - A 35-year-old man has been charged with murder in the death of a 7-month-old girl who police say was found by officers with a fractured skull, broken leg and other injuries.

Talawrence Donyea Tennell of Bryan was being held Thursday at the Brazos County jail on a $50,000 bond.

A Bryan police report indicates Tennell told officers that he was high on PCP Wednesday when his girlfriend's daughter suffered her injuries. He told investigators he fell asleep and awoke to find the baby on the floor and unresponsive.

The child was taken to a hospital where she died.

Online jail records for Tennell did not indicate a defense attorney who could comment on the murder charge.

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A Detroit judge has ordered a 22-year-old woman and her 28-year-old boyfriend to stand trial on first-degree murder and torture charges in the death of the woman’s 7-year-old son, who weighed only 27 pounds.

Detroit District Judge Shannon Holmes ruled Thursday that there’s probable cause to send Victoria Foster and Cory Rimson to trial in the death of Foster’s son, Immanuel. Their first hearing in trial court is scheduled March 13.

Rimsom, Foster’s live-in boyfriend, told investigators he took Immanuel to the Henry Ford Hospital emergency room on Oct. 24 after the boy complained of abdominal pain and lost consciousness. Immanuel was dead on arrival and suspicious doctors notified police.

According to investigators, Immanuel was covered “from head to toe” with bruises and abrasions consistent with child abuse. Other details on the case have not yet been released, including a cause of death.

Authorities have since removed two other children, ages 2 and 3, from the couple’s west side home, in the 2200 block of Richton. Both appeared to be healthy.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Police in north Florida have arrested a mother in connection with the morphine overdose of her 2-year-old son.

Gainesville police say 26-year-old Tracey Wells was arrested Tuesday after toxicology tests confirmed the toddler died of morphine toxicity on July 27, 2014.

Authorities say Wells waited 9 hours before calling 911.

Investigators believe the boy, Erin Wells, was fed morphine to calm him down. Wells had recorded video of Erin falling and unable to keep his eyes open.

On his last day, Erin had been watched by two of Wells' friends, one of whom had prescription morphine.

Wells returned home late in the evening and found Erin asleep, tried to revive him and eventually called 911.

The Gainesville Sun reports that police still don't know who gave the boy the drugs.

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A 36-year-old woman has been charged with abuse of two of her children, ages 2 and 3, the younger of whom was found dead in the mother's apartment on Thursday, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced Friday.
Marie J. Chishahayo, 36, faces four counts of child abuse or neglect.

According to court records, police were called to an apartment complex at East 13th and Vine streets about 1 p.m. on reports of a burned child. A 2-year-old girl was found dead and her 3-year-old sister was taken to the Children's Mercy Hospital.

Two other children, who are 9 years old and 5 months old, were also found inside the apartment.

The mother, according to court records, told police initially, that she had not hit the children. But she said the 9-year-old child had hit the children to punish them. She said he told her that he heated a knife and burned one of the children all over the child's body. She said she allowed him to do this because God had told him to do so.

Upon further questioning she said she had hit both children, using a long plastic rod on one. And she said she had hit the other because the child would not get out of bed.

The two men believe there was a fire. Callia Elia, 2, was found dead inside the apartment. Her sister, Elena Elia, 3, was badly burned. She is still in the hospital.

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A 19-year-old Kansas City woman has been charged with abuse and assault of her 1-year-old child, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced Saturday.

Donniesha Lasha Lee faces charges of child abuse and first-degree domestic assault.

Thursday about 11:19 p.m. police and EMS were called to the apartment in the 6900 block of East 116th Street, southeast of Blue Ridge Boulevard and Longview Road, after the baby suffered apparent cardiac arrest.

Police began their investigation after the little girl, identified in court records as DLF, died shortly after she was taken to the hospital.

According to court records, Lee was drinking and holding her 1-year-old child tight against her chest (some described as in a bear hug), repeatedly hitting the little girl and scolding the child to be quiet when she would cry.

“Take your (expletive) to sleep. Shut up (expletive),” one witness reported Lee saying to the little girl.

Witnesses said they could hear the little girl's muffled cries and they were worried Lee was smothering the child.

Her actions prompted others in the apartment to ask her to stop and to give them the child, but she refused.

One witness said they finally found the girl motionless lying on her stomach on the couch next to Lee, who was still sitting, but slumped over and sleeping, presumed to be passed out. The witness told police they the child was limp and unresponsive and they found her not breathing.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) – Police have arrested a woman after her 1-year-old son was found unconscious in the bathroom of a midtown Manhattan restaurant.

Police say 35-year-old Latisha Fisher faces charges of second-degree murder in the death of Gavriel Ortiz-Fisher.

It happened at the 5 Boro Burger on Sixth Avenue near 36th Street at about 2:45 p.m. Monday.

Police say a worker at the restaurant became concerned after noticing that the woman and child were in the bathroom for an unusual amount of time.

The worker entered the bathroom, saw the boy unconscious on the woman’s lap, and called 911.

When asked what she was doing, the woman allegedly said, “I put my hand over his mouth to put him to sleep,” WCBS 880’s Marla Diamond reported Monday.

Chris Coffee was one of the witnesses inside 5 Boro Burger after the boy was removed from the bathroom.

“Hear a little commotion in the corner, get up, see boy sitting there, like, kind of unresponsive looking,” Coffee said. “Staff is talking about how this woman’s in the bathroom, and how she won’t come out; she’s locked herself in.”

Police say the boy was in cardiac arrest and taken to Bellevue Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Sources said the boy’s mother later said, “The devil made me do it.”

“I was afraid that someone was going to eat him so I was protecting him. I put him to sleep with my hand,” Latisha Fisher, 35, allegedly told cops.

The Lower East Side resident, who is charged with second-degree murder, was being moved to Elmhurst Hospital for psychiatric treatment, the sources said.

Fisher was discovered by a worker in the bathroom of 5 Boro Burger on Monday with her 1-year-old son lying on her lap unconscious and foaming at the mouth.

MARSHALL CO., MS (WMC) -

Prosecutors charged Marshall County parents in the death of their 2-month-old daughter, Harmony Crenshaw.

Jeremiah Crenshaw, 22, and 20-year-old Monica Euell are charged with capital murder and felony child abuse.

According to court documents, the couple lives in the 900 block of Mount Pleasant Road in Marshall County, Mississippi.

The couple took Harmony to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital last week following an altercation at their home. The infant died Saturday.

But investigators say the couple's story about what happened doesn't match the baby's injuries.

The Marshall County Coroner confirmed Harmony's cause of death as blunt force trauma. He ruled the death a homicide, after finding bruises on the baby's arms and chest.

Waggaman 3-year-old's suspicious death leaves mother's boyfriend accused of murder

A 3-year-old boy from Waggaman who died last month from injuries consistent with severe physical abuse was killed by his mother's live-in boyfriend, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said Friday (April 3).

Victor Becnel, 35, was booked Thursday night with first-degree murder in connection with the March 18 death of toddler Pierre Stewart. An autopsy performed by the Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office determined the boy died from injuries "consistent with blunt-force trauma" and ruled the death a homicide. Dr. Susan Garcia reported the boy had a lacerated liver and "numerous larger contusions of the head."

Stewart was pronounced dead at West Jefferson Medical Center shortly after authorities received a 911 call from Becnel about a child not breathing at their home in the 600 block of Oleander Lane in Waggaman.

Stewart's mother, 22-year-old Nelly Pena, told authorities she had taken the boy to an urgent care clinic five days before the death because he was vomiting and had a fever. She told investigators that on March 18, she thought the boy was feeling better and brought him to work with her because of "growing tension" between Becnel and the child.

NORTH LAS VEGAS (KSNV My News 3) – Police are looking for the parents of a 17-year-old woman who is charged with the death of a 3-year-old found in the family home and with child abuse involving her hospitalized baby.

Because the 17-year-old is a juvenile, police have not released her name.

The couple, Kellie Cherie Phillips, 38, and Jondrew Megil Lachaux, 39, are believed to be in California with five of their children, ranging in age from 1 to 9.

Police are concerned about the welfare of the children. The couple are also the parents of the 3-year-old found dead in their home. They are wanted for questioning.

Police say the couple left their North Las Vegas home several months ago.

In a news conference Friday, police said the parents left the 3-year-old with her 17-year-old half-sister at the family residence several months ago. Also with the teen was her own 4-month-old baby. Lachaux is the teen’s step-father, officers said.

Officer Aaron Patty said the 17-year-old girl was arrested for child abuse after investigators visited Sunrise, where the infant was in critical condition Wednesday.

When the teen took her baby to Sunrise Hospital, police checked the family residence on the 6600 block of Wood Thrush Place, north of the Interstate 215 beltway. They found a 3-year-old girl dead. No one else was inside.

Police said the child had been dead several days before her body was found. The coroner has not yet determined a cause of death.

A Maricopa County Superior Court judge is deciding whether the autopsy photos of a battered 18-month-old girl will be shown to the jury in the upcoming trial of the man charged in her murder.

Larry Works III, 21, of Phoenix, is charged with first-degree murder and child abuse in the death of his girlfriend's daughter, Jordyn Allyn-Nicole Daniels, on Jan. 20, 2014.

On Friday, state prosecutor Marischa Gilla showed the court pictures taken during her autopsy of Jordyn's injuries. The child had bruises, a bite mark and burn marks on her arms and legs.

Records show Jordyn died from trauma to her abdomen, resulting in a lacerated liver that bled out. The case detective said the fatal injury was consistent with trauma from a punch or kick.

Gilla said that Jordyn's mother, La-Deejah Smith, took the child to a physician for the accidental burns from a curling iron and that the bite mark was from child care. Physician records show Smith had taken Jordyn to a pediatrician for an ear infection and a cold within two days of Jordyn's death.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The Crystal father accused of killing his 10-year-old son Barway Collins will make his first appearance in court Wednesday afternoon.

Pierre Collins was charged with second-degree intentional murder Tuesday afternoon.

Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said Pierre Collins had a $30,000 life insurance policy on his son and had inquired about increasing that two days before Barway disappeared.

Investigators haven’t said how the 10-year-old died, but say his feet were tied together with duct tape. They also believe Pierre Collins acted alone and his wife, Barway’s stepmom, was not aware of what was going on.

If convicted, Pierre Collins faces a maximum of 40 years in prison.

A fund has been set up to help bring Barway’s mother get here from Liberia for his funeral. You can make a donation at any TCF Bank.

Man Accused Of Abuse Faces More Charges After Girlfriend’s Baby Dies 12 Days Later
April 17, 2015 7:43 AM

WARREN (WWJ) – A Warren man jailed on child abuse charges is facing an even worse fate now that his girlfriend’s 21-month-old daughter has died.

The child, whose name has not been released, was declared dead early Thursday morning, four days after she was removed from life-support machines.
The girl had been hospitalized with severe injuries since April 4.

An autopsy to determine the exact cause of death is pending. However, doctors told police that the child’s injuries were consistent with “shaken baby syndrome.”

Gregory Lowe, the 28-year-old boyfriend of the girl’s mother, was arrested the same day the baby’s injuries were reported and charged with first-degree child abuse. However, because the baby has died, investigators are now hoping to charge Lowe with murder.
