SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Spartanburg man is accused of threatening to kill his girlfriend, pouring gasoline on her while holding a lit cigarette, because she was scheduled to testify against him in previous domestic violence case, according to police.

Spartanburg police were sent to the victim's home on Tuesday where they found her wet, cold and smelling of gasoline, according to the police report.

The report said the suspect, 37-year-old Kelvin Kerns, was holding a 20-ounce bottle of fuel and the cigarette while making threats. Police said Kerns told the woman he would kill her so she could not show up in court the next day because he had a criminal domestic violence hearing.

Police said when they took Kerns into custody, he had a knife and homemade brass knuckles on him.

Kerns told officers he wanted to press charges against the woman because she assaulted him, pushing him into the front door and left scratches on his wrists, police said. But officers told him she had said she was trying to escape, the report stated.

Muffled cries alerted the mother of a five-week-old girl that her daughter was inside a backpack being carried away by the girl's father.

City police allege that David William Sleets, 34, of Lancaster, stuffed the girl into a trashbag, which he then shoved into the backpack, before fleeing the mother's home Tuesday.

At some point, police said, Sleets also slit the girl's face and neck with a knife.

He ran about 200 yards to the Lancaster General Hospital parking garage, where he threw the backpack underneath a parked van.

The girl was flown by helicopter to Hershey Medical Center, where she is reportedly recovering from surgery to repair a deep cut to her face and neck.

Police said she is stable, but in serious condition.

Alva woman alleges angry husband set her ablaze

An Alva woman told police her husband doused her with gas and set her ablaze Sunday morning because he became angry she was dancing with another man at a party they had attended.

Kizer James Pontoon, 42, was arrested Monday afternoon and is in Lee County Jail charged with arson causing great bodily harm and permanent disability, kidnapping inflicting bodily harm, aggravated battery causing bodily harm or disability and assault with intent to commit a felony.

Wilhelmina Pontoon, 43, told police in Tampa of the incident after she was flown there. She suffered serious burns to 17 percent of her body, including her torso, face, arms and neck.

In a statement to Tampa police, however, Wilhelmina Pontoon said that the couple had been at a party and Kizer Pontoon became angry she was dancing with another man. She said that when the couple left the party her husband dragged her by the hair, punched her in the back of the head and grabbed her by the throat.

At their home, Wilhelmina Pontoon said she grabbed her cellphone to call police, but Kizer Pontoon smashed it. She told police that he then took her into a back bedroom and told her "I'll kill you," and then punched her.

She then said her husband retrieved two knives and held both to her neck, removing one to place it to his own neck and saying he would kill her and himself. She said she made an attempt to flee to a neighbor's home but was prevented by her 6-foot-4, 230-pound husband.

She told police he ran outside and got a gas can. When he returned to the house he poured gas over her and lit her blouse, she said. She rolled in a blanket and comforter to extinguish the flames.

Police arrested Kiser Pontoon after they reinterviewed him Monday. He repeated that the incident was an accident, the police report said, adding that the pair left the party as a happy couple and came home to build a bonfire. He said he accidentally splashed gas on her when she startled him while he was holding a gas can and then was ignited when he went to light up a cigarette.

Double Murder, Dismemberment In Penn Hills May Have Been Sparked By Argument
December 17, 2014 10:52 PM

PENN HILLS (KDKA/AP) — Police sources tell KDKA-TV News that an argument may have provoked a horrific double murder and the dismemberment of the elderly victim’s bodies in Penn Hills.

The partial remains of 73-year-old Olivia Gilbert and her husband, 76-year-old Lamar Gilbert, were found in their home
Tuesday night.

The woman’s 49-year-old son, Frederick Harris III, is now charged with two counts of homicide and abuse of a corpse.

Harris moved in with his mother and stepfather last weekend, after investigators say his biological father kicked him out of his house when he allegedly tried to choke him.

Sources say an argument between Harris and his mother and stepfather may have led to the horrific crime.

Police say Harris recently purchased four 45-gallon trash cans at the Home Depots stores in Wilkins Township and East Liberty.

Some of the dismembered body parts were found in the trash cans at the Gilbert home on Suncrest Drive.

Some of the human remains may never be located, sources say, because Harris put them out with the trash, and they were already picked up and disposed of either in a landfill or recycling bin.

Police also say they found a note inside Harris’ pocket as they took him into custody.

It read: “Hello Fred Thanks for house sitting and fixing up the place while we are on vacation. See You soon, tell everyone hello. Mt and Mrs Gilbert Lamar PS Don’t answer the door for anyone.”

Police did not say who wrote the note, or when it was written.

Pennsylvania Man Kills, Dismembers Mom, Stepdad: Police

A man was charged Wednesday with killing and dismembering his mother and stepfather, whose body parts were found in trash bags and containers inside their home.

Frederick C. Harris is facing two counts each of criminal homicide and abuse of a corpse in the deaths of 73-year-old Olivia and 76-year-old Lamar Gilbert. He is scheduled to be arraigned early Thursday; online court records don't list an attorney for him.

Neighbors told police that the 47-year-old Harris had been living in the couple's Penn Hills home recently. Olivia Gilbert's daughter asked police to check on the couple Tuesday afternoon after they hadn't been heard from since Saturday.

After the daughter forced open the door, police found Harris unresponsive under the covers and in bed, they say. Authorities say they took Harris to a hospital, where doctors found nothing wrong with him and police discovered an unusual note in his pocket:

"Hello Fred Thanks for house sitting and fixing up the place while we are on vacation. See You soon, tell everyone hello. Mr and Mrs Gilbert Lamar PS Don't answer the door for anyone."

After Harris was hospitalized, Penn Hills police found remnants of a carpet that appeared to be bloodstained and more than a half dozen garbage cans in the garage, four of which appeared to be new. Among other things, the trash cans contained a man's torso with stab wounds, the victims' heads and two sets of feet and hands, police said.

Investigators didn't find a woman's torso or arms, nor did they find a man's arms.

With search warrants, detectives found receipts for four garbage containers purchased Monday and Tuesday afternoon and a section of the laundry room floor that appeared to be wiped clean, police said.

Surveillance video from a Home Depot store showed Harris buying the garbage cans, police said.

"Five bloodied large kitchen knives were also recovered. The blades were bent and in some of the knives the handles were broken," according to the criminal complaint.

Authorities who questioned Harris said he "sat upright in the chair with his eyes closed and refused to speak or acknowledge detectives." Police also noticed a fresh cut on Harris' right palm.

Harris was convicted of insurance fraud in 2009 and of harassment in 2012, according to online court records. Details of those cases weren't immediately available.

At the time of his arrest, Harris was also wanted for a parole violation in a 2011 squatter's case in neighboring Westmoreland County. He received five to 23 months in jail after pleading guilty to criminal trespass in Murrysville, where police say he removed a for-sale sign from a $500,000 home and moved in without permission.

Utica Police say they were called to a home on the 800 block of Waverly Place at approximately 1:30am on December 20, 2014.

35-Year-old Gregory Lee of Miller Street was arrested after, according to police, “It is alleged that Lee and has baby’s mother had an argument over control of the television. When the mother went to pick up the baby, holding the child against her chest, Lee swung and punched the woman in the face. Lee swung again, this time punching the baby in the face.”

Lee is said to have left the home but police caught up with him. He was taken into custody and charged with:

TACOMA — A 34-year-old South Hill man pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder charges following his recent arrest for the August killing of a man in what would come to be known as the ‘bloody carpet’ case.

Michael Clifford Boiselle was arrested Friday after being on the run for months, the Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office said. He pleaded not guilty Monday, and was being held in leiu of $1 million bail.

Boiselle was wanted for allegedly shooting Brandon Shane Zomalt to death in August in a South Hill home. Zomalt’s body was found after his DNA was linked to bloody carpet and towels left by the side of the road in Auburn.

According to the prosecutor’s office, Boisselle, 34, allegedly told witnesses that he shot Zomalt, 30, because he was frustrated with him and didn’t want him to stay at his home any longer. Boisselle told his mother that he needed to get out of the area immediately and that she would not hear from him again.

JEFFERSON, Md. (WJZ) — A shocking murder in Frederick County just three days before Christmas. The victim was a grandmother. Now a family member sits behind bars–charged in her death.

Maryland State Police say the grandmother was murdered by her own granddaughter.

Christmas decorations outside of the home of 67-year-old Lillian Morris could put anyone in the holiday spirit. But sadly, there is no Christmas cheer at the home after the well-known grandmother was murdered in front of her Frederick County home on Monday.

“I can’t imagine what the family is going through right now.”

Police say the killer is 19-year-old Hestina Harris, Morris’ granddaughter.

The victim’s body was spotted lying in her front yard by a person driving by.

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Relatives say for a week they tried to contact Imogene Yongue but her son always had a reason why she wasn't available. Monday afternoon, after her grandson called police to do a welfare check, officers found Jean Yongue dead.

"The body is so decomposed that they won't be able to show the body," her cousin, Juanita Yongue-Eison said. "And they say she was shot in the head."

The motive, police sources say, was one of the oldest in the books – money.

Monday afternoon, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police arrested and charged William Henry Yongue with the murder of his mother, who was also known as Jean.

Police sources say William Yongue, a practicing attorney in Virginia, stole money from his mother. According to sources, he allegedly shot and killed her to cover up the thefts.

Poway man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder dies in jail

A 41-year-old Poway man, who had been arrested on suspicion of trying to murder his longtime girlfriend by setting her on fire while she slept, died Tuesday in the jail in downtown San Diego.

Vidal Webb was arrested Monday after a seven-hour standoff with the San Diego Police Department SWAT team that surrounded a house where he was barricaded, officials said.

He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and arson with great bodily injury.

His girlfriend, whose name was not released, remains in critical condition at UC San Diego Medical Center's burn unit.
Sheriff's deputies were called shortly after 5 a.m. Sunday to the home in Poway where the couple lived. Roommates of the couple reported that the woman had been set on fire, allegedly by use of a liquid accelerant and matches.

The Sheriff's Department said that Webb jumped from the second tier of the housing module to the day room floor. Deputies and medical staff, including a doctor, responded immediately, but Webb was declared dead 20 minutes later.

The jail death is under investigation by the Sheriff's Department, which runs the jail. Webb was set for arraignment Wednesday.

Inmate accused of torching girlfriend dies

http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2014/dec/30/poway-suspect-lit-girlfriend-fire-dead-jail/

SAN DIEGO — The 41-year-old man suspected of lighting his longtime girlfriend on fire Sunday jumped over a second-floor railing at the downtown county jail and died Tuesday morning, a sheriff's official said.

A nearby doctor and deputies treated Vidal Webb, but he died at 10:21 a.m. — about 20 minutes after making the jump, sheriff's homicide Lt. John Maryon said. An autopsy will be conducted to try to determine whether the death was a suicide.

Webb is suspected of using an accelerant to torch his live-in girlfriend of 25 years in Poway, sheriff's Sgt. Chad Boudreau said. A sister the victim lived with and visiting friends were at the Belvedere Drive home during the 5 a.m. incident., a family member said. The victim was put in the shower to help douse the flames.

The home was damaged in the fire and she was seriously burned. The victim's father said while 50 to 60 percent of her body is covered in third degree burns, her "prognosis is good." She has been placed in a coma to help her heal, he said from his Virginia home.

"(She) is a very strong-willed person," he said. "We're praying for a good recovery, but it's going to be hard."

Her father said she was sleeping when she was set on fire. U-T San Diego is not naming her because she is a victim of domestic violence.

Deputies began searching for Webb, who fled the Poway home. About nine hours later, San Diego police received a tip that he was hiding out in a City Heights home on Chamoune Avenue. Deputies and a San Diego SWAT team surrounded the place.

Webb surrendered after a 10-hour standoff. He was arrested Monday, shortly after midnight, on suspicion of attempted murder and arson that caused great bodily injury.

6329730_G.jpg

Webb was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday but had not gone to court before his death, a District Attorney’s Office spokeswoman said.

Webb and his girlfriend had gotten into a fight days before the fire incident, authorities said.

Her father said he spoke to his daughter, who works as a veterinarian technician, on Christmas, but she didn't mention an argument. He said the two met when she was in high school. A couple of years after graduation they moved in together. Her father said he's known Webb since he was young, and he was always "mild-mannered."

"We never noticed a mean side to him, a violent side to him," he said. "Don't know why he did it. Don't know why he did it at all. It's hard to understand. I don't understand why if you have differences you just don't go on, instead of trying to take someone's life."

The couple never got married, he said, and never had children. They briefly moved to North Carolina before moving to California, he said.

Online public records show that Webb was convicted of a misdemeanor assault on a woman in Guilford County, North Carolina, in 1996 and again in 1998. He also had a history of drunken-driving arrests.

The victim's father said there has been an outpouring of support since his daughter was hospitalized.
