FRANKLINTON, LA (WVUE) -

The Washington Parish Sheriff's Office has two men in custody accused of stealing a dump truck and Bobcat skid steer from a construction site in New Orleans. Investigators say the suspected thieves apparently didn't realize that the equipment was installed with GPS tracking devices that led them straight to the stolen items.

The suspects are identified as 31-year old Zarius Jawone Brown and 45-year old Lindsey Daniels, both of Franklinton, Louisiana. Detectives received a call from a construction company, which says equipment was stolen from a construction site and moved to rural locations in Washington Parish.

The crook burgled three offices inside 880 River Ave. in West Concourse on separate occasions between July 3 and July 5.

He was captured on surveillance footage inside Diamond Reporting and Legal Video, where he’s seen wandering around the kitchen and browsing through the fridge. While there, he snatched a laptop worth $500.

The thief broke into Highbridge Head Start, where he stole $1,700 worth of property, including a television, a digital camera, three laptops and jewelry, cops said.

He also took a $1,300 MacBook Pro from Eye Care & Surgery.

Suspect arrested in connection with smash and grab outside Stanford Shopping Center
Second suspect fled on foot into creek and remains at large

UPDATED: August 3, 2018 at 11:07 pm

Police arrested one suspect and another remains at large after a vehicle was burglarized Thursday night at Stanford Shopping Center, police said.

Officers patrolling the Palo Alto shopping center at around 8:27 p.m. saw a white 2002 BMW M-5 slowly driving through the eastern parking lot and, considering it suspicious and possibly an act of casing vehicles, began a surveillance operation. The male front-seat passenger soon exited the vehicle and began looking into parked cars, eventually smashing the front passenger window of a locked, black 2017 Volvo XC-60 and removing a backpack that had been left in plain view, according to a police report.

As officers moved in to make arrests, the man dropped the backpack and fled on foot across El Camino Real and down into San Francisquito Creek. Police were unable to locate the man after an extensive search of the creek bed and surrounding area with the help of canine teams from the Menlo Park and Mountain View police departments. The man is described as a black man in his 20s, about 6-foot-3 with a skinny build. He was wearing a black or gray sweatshirt and blue jeans.

The female driver, Nakiyah Shereese Polk, 20, of Vallejo, was detained without incident in the parking lot. She was arrested for felony auto burglary and felony conspiracy and booked into county jail.

Two Atlanta women allegedly used a price tag gun to return clothing from Goodwill to a T.J. Maxx, disguising the items as purchased goods from the retailer.

The clever scheme got April Walker and Laquwanda Wilcher $155 for three pair of jeans, after the duo swapped the luxury brands with thrifty finds, Athens-Clarke County police in an incident report.

“What they do is buy expensive jeans and go out to their vehicle and switch the tags over to jeans they purchased at stores like Goodwill,” Athens-Clarke County police Officer Shawn Denmark wrote in his report. “They then come back in and return the jeans with the receipt they just got, get their money back, but also keep possession of the expensive jeans.”

STOCKTON — A woman allegedly stole an ambulance while its crew was picking up a patient inside St. Joseph’s Medical Center on Monday evening, led authorities on a wild pursuit through town and up Interstate 5 and finally was captured about a half-hour later after a spike strip flattened the ambulance’s two front tires.

There was no patient in the ambulance at the time and no one was injured during the incident. There was, however, extensive damage to the $100,000 vehicle, Norcal Ambulance spokesman Eric Larimer said.

Stockton police initially responded to St. Joseph’s at 1800 N. California St. about 6:10 p.m. on the report of the stolen Norcal ambulance. With the use of a GPS tracking device, officers quickly located the ambulance north of the Calaveras River near Bianchi Road and Townehome Drive and attempted to make a traffic stop.

Instead, the driver — identified as 34-year-old Natasha Michelle Scott — took off west on surface streets, eventually entering northbound I-5 from West March Lane with Stockton officers in pursuit. The 10-mile, 11-minute pursuit was terminated for safety reasons after speeds reached 90 miles per hour, police reported.

CLINTON, Conn. (WTNH) - What began as a routine traffic stop in Clinton unveiled thousands of dollars worth of stolen items from multiple Connecticut malls.

According to Clinton police, a car was pulled over on route 81 after an officer observed a driver make an unsafe left hand turn, cutting off oncoming traffic. Upon checking the license plate, police discovered that the North Carolina registration on the vehicle was expired, and was not for the vehicle being driven.

Upon pulling the vehicle over, officers noticed a strong scent of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A search revealed that the passenger, Katrina Dise, 36, of New York City, had marijuana with her in the car.

Along with the marijuana, police noticed a device commonly used by shoplifters to remove anti-theft devices from merchandise. As the officer searched the vehicle more, a bag with a foil lining was found; containing over $4,000.00 in stolen merchandise from stores at the Clinton Crossing, as well as the Trumbull mall.

According to police, there was also over $600 in counterfeit bills in the vehicle as well.

Dise, along with the driver, Michael Alston, 36, also of New York City were found to have extensive criminal histories. Both were charged with larceny, forgery, and organized retail theft.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A mother and daughter duo were charged with serious felony crimes after allegedly stealing from an 89-year-old woman.

Tamika and Teriqka Brewster were both arrested on Monday and charged with identity theft, forgery and theft of property. Their alleged crimes came to light after the elderly woman’s bank contacted her in June saying someone had deposited her checks into a separate account.

That account reportedly belonged to Tamika Brewster.

The victim said that’s when she noticed that several checks were missing from her check book.

Police didn’t say how the Brewsters allegedly obtained the checks, but did confirm surveillance video at their bank captured Teriqka Brewster depositing them into her mother’s account.

The mother then withdrew the money from the account, police said.

In all, the pair allegedly stole $3,600.

Citizens Hold Apple Theft Suspects
August 20, 2018 at 5:45 pm

NORTHRIDGE (CBSLA) — Good Samaritans made a citizen’s arrest at the latest California Apple store targeted by suspected thieves and investigators believe they could be tied to a snatch-and-grab crew hitting Apple stores across the state.

Captain Garo Kuredjian from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department is said he’s happy the shoppers got involved after three men walked into an Apple store at the Oaks Mall in Thousand Oaks and started snatching goods.

“These items are relatively small and very expensive so if they get away with a few things in their hands these are very easy to transfer into cash,” said Kuredjian.

It’s a scene we have seen up and down the state: in Fresno last month four men took more than $30,000 worth of merchandise from an Apple store in less than a minute. In Costa Mesa a couple weeks later the same thing. And a customer snapped a photo in Valencia of four people running out with computers as well.

“They’re actually targeting these Apple stores because of what they have there and there’s a network in place to sell these on the secondary market,” said Kuredjian.

Detectives believe at least two stores were targeted Sunday. First, an Apple store in Northridge was hit at 1 p.m. — $10,000 worth of products were taken. Two hours later detectives believe the same men came to Thousand Oaks but this time customers tackled two of them.

Deputies pulled over the third in a get-away car leaving the mall. Detectives arrested three men and two women believed to be in the getaway car. Four are from Northern California. The fifth suspect is from Fresno.
