HOUSTON -- A driver led police on a chase through several cities, southwest Houston and north Harris County for more than an hour Monday afternoon before he was apprehended in a parking garage, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Houston police began pursuit of a white Dodge Caravan at about 1:10 p.m. on Wilcrest Drive at Beechnut Street.

After speeding through several side streets and parking lots, the driver got onto the Southwest Freeway and headed southbound. He traveled through Sugar Land and Richmond, then exited the freeway near
Grand Parkway.

The driver then drove on several side streets, making a U-turn until he drove over a grassy median to get back on the northbound Southwest Freeway, speeding past other vehicles.

The chase moved to the northbound lanes of Beltway 8, with several HPD patrol cars in pursuit.

The Houston Police Department's helicopter tracked the minivan from above.

The driver weaved in and out of traffic and drove on the shoulder lane as the minivan moved into north Harris County.

He went the wrong way down an entrance ramp to exit the Beltway, narrowly missing several vehicles. At the bottom of the entrance ramp, the driver turned the minivan around to travel in the right direction on the feeder road.

He jumped a curb and drove through a parking lot to avoid a red light at an intersection.

At Ella Boulevard, he got back onto the Beltway for a short time and got off on the feeder and headed north on Imperial Valley.

For a while, he dr
ove in circles in the Greenspoint area, jumping curbs and driving through grass to avoid arrest.

He almost hit a Houston Fire Department ladder truck on a side street. He clipped the front of a Houston police car as he U-turned around an intersection
.

An hour into the chase, the driver pulled into a covered parking garage and drove up the parking ramps.

Police blocked the exits in an effort to apprehend him.

At about 2:15 p.m., the driver ran across the top floor of the parking garage before he jumped off the side, falling several stories.

Police apprehended him after he hit the ground. Whether he was injured or the reason for the chase was not yet known.

Two niggers expire from street racing crash

ADAM_BHAGIRATTI250.jpg

TORONTO -- Two families are grieving the death of two young coons after a speeding convertible spun out of control and into a guardrail on the Don Valley Parkway last night.

Friends of the two dead niggers, Adam Bhagiratti, 21, and Geetesh Singh, 20, have already started Facebook tributes to them. The car was registered to Bhagiratti's father.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene, just south of Eglinton Ave. around 8:30 p.m.

Toronto Police are continuing to investigate the crash – possibly caused by street racing – that also sent a 21-year-old girl to hospital. The girl had various injuries, including b
roken bones, police said, but was treated and released last night.

The car, a red Nissan 300 ZX, was in the centre, northbound lane when the driver lost control, police said.

Sgt. Tim Burrows said police are continuing to search for a white convertible seen before the crash in the centre lane, just in front of the red Nissan 300 ZX.

"No one has said they were passing each other, just that they were passing everybody else," Burrows said.

At some point, the red car careened off the road.

"It went through the right guard rail, it took out about a 40-foot section of the guardrail and a light standard and ended up facing southbound in the grass on the side of the road," Burrows said.

Police are still trying to determine how fast the car was going at the time and if alcohol was a factor.

"Given the circumstances, we'll have to wait for toxicology for that," he said.

DETROIT -- Detroit police said a 46-year-old man has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that happened in the city overnight Sunday.

Police said Kenneth Cooper, of Detroit, hit and killed another 43-year-old Detroit man as he was making a left onto Fairport Street from E. Seven Mile Road.

The victim died from his injuries at an area hospital.

Police said it was tips from witnesses that lead them to the arrest.

“The quick apprehension of the suspect in this c
ase shows the critical importance of witnesses coming forward with what they know," said Detroit Police Chief Warren Evans. "Had these citizens decided to not cooperate with us, we would not even have a suspect identified at this time. For every case like this we close, we have more resources to put toward other open investigations, such as homicides and non-fatal shootings."

Cooper has been arraigned on several charges, some which include operating while impaired, driving with a suspended license, failure to stop and manslaughter with a motor vehicle.

Police said Cooper and the victim lived within about a half-mile of each other on Fairport Street.

His next court date is set for July 30.

Tony Ferrell, 33, is in jail with bond set at $70,000, Birmingham police said.

Ron-Drequez Cortez White, a 20-year-old student at Jefferson State Community College, was pronounced dead in the roadway at 1:34 a.m. in the 1100 block of Center Point Parkway, just north of Captain D's, said Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Pat Curry.

LANTANA - Police have identified the driver arrested in a crash that killed a pedestrian in Lantana on Thursday evening as Ronald A Wright.

Wright , 25, of Boynton Beach, was charged with fleeing a law enforcement officer, driving with a suspended license in a fatal crash, and hit-and-run-failure to remain at the scene of a fatal crash, according to the arrest report and the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

Wright has had multiple traffic violations in his past, according to records.

Shortly after 4 p.m., Boynton Beach Police Officer Cory Gray tried unsuccessfully
to stop a silver Mazda for a traffic violation on Interstate 95, police said.

"The driver did not yield but accelerated despite the active attempt by Officer Gray to stop him," Sgt. Michael Kelley wrote in his arrest report.

Wright exited at Lantana Road and was speeding east, witnesses said. He drove through two red lights before hitting a Corvette at 13th Street in front of A.G. Holley State Hospital, witnesses said, according to The Palm Beach Post.

The collision caused the Mazda to spin and hit a man who was crossing the street, as well as a Ford Explorer and a Ford Expedition, Florida Highway Patrol Cpl. Marcus Thomas wrote in his report.

The impact of the man's body shattered the windshield of the Mazda, and the back of the car was twisted from the collision with the Explorer, the Post reported.

FHP Trooper Ray Wigfall said the pedestrian was thrown about 75 feet and was dead when bystanders ran into the road to help him.

Authorities think he was homele
ss.

"We got a pretty good idea who he is," said FHP spokesman, Lt. Tim Frith. "Now we have two addresses we're checking out."

Wright ran from the car but left his driver's license on the seat, police said.

Police combed the area with dogs and a helicopter and later arrested him behind a 7-Eleven convenience store.

Witnesses said they saw the fleeing man, wearing a white shirt and black shorts, jump over a fence behind the store.

The car is owned by a rental car company at Dallas Forth-Worth Airport, according to motor vehicle records.

Auto Theft Suspect Arrested After Crash

Christopher Bentley, 26, of Triangle, Va., was arrested Friday.

ARLINGTON, Va. - An auto theft suspect under surveillance by police apparently became spooked and ran a red light, striking another vehicle whose driver was critically injured, Arlington County police said.
The driver of the crashed stolen car, identified as Christopher Bentley, 26, of Triangle, Va., took off running and was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit, police said. Bentley was arrested and charged with grand larceny of an automobile and felony hit and run.

An officer began tailing Bentley along Columbia Pike near Glebe Road, after the suspect was seen
driving a stolen Mercury Sable that had been taken during a burglary last week, said Det. Crystal Nosal, an Arlington County police spokesperson. The officer checked the car's tags against the stolen vehicle registry and called for backup.

As a second cruiser approached the suspect, the driver took off and ran a red light, Det. Nosal said, specifying that neither officer had lights or sirens activated at the time and neither had attempted to pull over the stolen car.

The stolen vehicle struck a Ford Explorer at the intersection of Columbia Pike and Walter Reed Drive, police said.

The Explorer was struck hard enough to roll on its side. It stopped with its wheels up against a storefront.

The victim of the crash, described as a 46-year-old male, was taken to a hospital with critical injuries.

Bentley is being held without bond.

Policy Would Allow Cops To Shoot At Fleeing Cars

Jul 29, 2009

CHICONGO-
The Chicago Police Department is considering a major change in policy regarding the use of deadly force.

The department is looking at allowing police officers to fire their guns under circumstances where they previously could not.

The new policy, from police Supt. Jody Weis and confirmed by WBBM Newsradio 780 Wednesday morning, would allow police officers to shoot at fleeing vehicles if the driver or passengers are suspected of committing a felony.

The old policy allowed officers only to shoot at vehicles that pose a threat to them or others, such as if the driver were trying to run down the officer.

In a
statement, the department said it is "currently reviewing the existing order [to] provide officers with more clear direction. The review process is ongoing and will not be rushed."
