A 5-year-old girl wandered the Queens streets alone Wednesday night — ending up in a bodega, where she told workers, “Ize hongry,” cops and witnesses said.

Cops said that Trimeka Crum, 35, who runs a daycare out of her Far Rockaway apartment on Mott Avenue, dropped off little Essiah Love Miller by car in front of her home on Central Avenue at around 6 p.m. and then drove off without making sure she got inside.

Crum was arrested Thursday and charged with acting in a manner injurious to a child.

Essiah never entered her family’s home near Wheatley Avenue when she was dropped off and walked about two blocks away before she ran into The Brothers Supermarket, telling workers inside that she was hungry.

“She just walked in and she told the cashier, ‘I’m hungry,’” said Carlos Cruz, a manager at the Central Avenue store, adding that workers gave the toddler snacks, chips, and ice cream and called the cops.

“She stayed calm, she didn’t cry. I think we were more nervous than she was,” said Cruz. “My brother started asking her some basic questions like where do you live and she didn’t know.”

The brave little girl told workers that her mother is in Jamaica, the manager said.

Cruz said that he was glad that Essiah wound up in his supermarket during the potentially dangerous ordeal.

“I’m a father and I can’t imagine a little girl walking the streets alone. I’m glad we were able to help her,” Cruz said.

Essiah was taken to St. John’s Hospital for an evaluation.

Meanwhile, Essiah’s aunt arrived at the family’s home at around 11 p.m. and asked her daughter where the child was, according to sources.

The daughter was unaware that Essiah was supposed to be with her, sources said.

Then the aunt called Crum and both of them went to file a missing person report at the 101st Precinct where Crum was eventually placed under arrest, sources said.

Essiah, who cops said is in good health, and her aunt were finally reunited sometime Thursday.

A Queens woman faces up to a year in jail for abandoning a hungry 5-year-old girl on the street this week, prosecutors said Friday.

Trimeka Crum, who runs a daycare business of her Far Rockaway apartment, was charged with child endangerment and released on her own recognizance after pleading not guilty Thursday night in Queens criminal court.

Prosecutors said Crum, 35, dropped off Essiah Love Miller by car Wednesday in front of the girl’s home on Central Avenue around 6 p.m, but drove off without making sure the niglet got safely inside.

The little girl wandered about two blocks to the Three Brothers Meat Market, where she told workers she wuz hongry.

Crum admitted to cops that she dropped off Essiah in front of the house between 6 and 6:15 p.m. But she claimed she watched the child go into the building and didn’t see her come back out.

The girl’s mother told investigators that she has an arrangement with Crum about dropping off Essiah at the end of the day.

Crum is either supposed to accompany the girl upstairs to her apartment, hand her off to her older siblings or call the mother or siblings to come downstairs and get the girl.

“This defendant failed to complete the daily job she was paid to perform and in the process endangered the life of an innocent young girl who was left all alone on the street to fend for herself,” said DA Richard Brown. “Luckily this child was unharmed.”

Crum’s attorney didn’t immediately return a message.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A 3-year-old child was found wandering near a busy intersection on the city's south side on Friday morning. Police on the scene told FOX 4 News it wasn't the first time it's happened either.

A driver on a busy roadway in the Ruskin Heights neighborhood says she got a shock when she saw that unsupervised toddler trying to cross Longview Road near the Food Lane intersection. The driver says the child was merely footsteps from walking into traffic.

Jayvin Carter, 3, might be gone if not for the kindness of a stranger, who identified herself as Miss Poodie.

"I saw a child about to cross the street," Miss Poodie told FOX 4 News photojournalist Pat Holloway.

"You got all these kids dying nowadays or getting snatched by who or whatever. That's not right," she said.

Miss Poodie says she also lives in the Ruskin Heights area, and was driving to a local grocery store when she and her fiancee saw a series of older kids crossing Longview Road. She realized Jayvin wasn't with the other kids.

"I asked him if he knew his name, and he just looked at me. I asked him if he knew where he stayed and he didn't know, so I picked him up and brought him over here," Miss Poodie commented.

Kansas City police officers took the toddler into custody, handing him over to a worker from the Missouri Department of Social Services. A woman who police identified as Carter's grandmother asked officers why Carter was being taken away. Police on the scene told FOX 4 News that officers were also in the neighborhood on Thursday, rescuing the child from traffic on that occasion on that day too.

"I hope the police finds him a safe place to stay. I don't know what's going on in his home, but for a 2-year-old (sic) to get up and walk out of the house when he wants to, that's not safe," Miss Poodie said.

That worker from Missouri Social Services could be seen returning the child to the grandmother's apartment. Rebecca Woelfel, a spokesperson for that agency, told FOX 4 News all investigations involving child protection are kept confidential. Family members refused to answer questions when approached at the apartment door.

"Not even 24 hours later, he's back out here," Miss Poodie said. "When I heard it, I was appalled. I didn't have no words. They said this isn't the second time. This is several times the police have been called. That doesn't make any sense."

OLATHE, Kan. -- The Johnson County district attorney said on Monday that a mom from Olathe is accused of two felonies after allegedly leaving her children inside a car at Oak Park Mall on Saturday. Sara Fite, 32, faces two counts of aggravated endangering of a child.

The National Weather Service shows the temperature at the Johnson County Executive Airport that day was 85 at 12:53 p.m., jail records show that Fite was arrested at 1:42 p.m.

The list of witnesses on her criminal complaint show personnel from Oak Park Mall and JC Penney, but doesn't show an individual who may have found the kids inside the car. The complaint also lists Johnson County MedAct and the Overland Park Fire Department as responders to the scene, an Overland Park Police Department spokesman says that the 11-month-old and 3-year-old were checked out and okay. He adds that the temperature on site was 87 degrees when officers responded.

Fite posted $2,500 bond, records show that she was released from custody on Monday after making her first court appearance, and she's due back before a judge on July 27.

A mischievous 6-year-old girl set off a massive search-and-rescue effort — including a human chain to comb the surf for her — on the beach in Coney Island on Sunday.

The youngster’s family was taking a photo on West 12th Street near the boardwalk in Brooklyn then the girl disappeared in a flash around 2:20 p.m., according to a family friend.

“We were taking a picture, and she was just running around, and then we didn’t see her,” said the woman, who declined to give a name. “We were looking for her everywhere. She wandered away.”

The FDNY sent out divers, and police deployed a helicopter to search from above, authorities said.

Fearing the worst, dozens of lifeguards began combing the sand and sea for the little girl and formed a human chain while other beach-goers joined in the search.

“I sent six of my grandkids out there [searching],” said Yolanda Kurz, 51, of Sheepshead Bay. “When somebody’s child is missing like that it’s scary.”

Police found the girl unharmed an hour later and returned her to her parents, officials said.

A fambly member squeezed the girl tightly and planted a kiss on her nappy haid after they were reunited by authorities, photos show.

A Michigan mother is accused of leaving her 6-month-old son in a car seat to die while she smoked marijuana.

Lovily Johnson, 22, was arrested and charged with murder and first-degree child abuse after investigators say she left her son Noah strapped into a car seat for two days in her Wyoming, Michigan apartment by himself, M Live reported.

Court records state the infant was “knowingly and intentionally deprived” of sustenance to live.

Johnson told investigators that she left her child at her apartment alone from 9 a.m. Monday, July 17 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday July 19, court records state. According to the Detroit Free Press, Johnson told investigators she gave him a bottle the morning of July 17 and left his diaper unchanged.

Investigators say she spent time out of the house smoking marijuana and meeting with friends.

According to court records, when the mother finally decided to have the child taken to a hospital, she did not call 911 and asked the baby’s grandfather to drive her and her son to the hospital on July 19.

When police investigated Johnson’s apartment that evening, they found the room where Noah had been left reached a temperature up to 90.5 degrees.

A Child Protective Services (CPS) complaint filed against Johnson alleges that 6-month-old Noah weighed 12 pounds and had already decomposed when he got to the hospital.

“Noah’s body was in advanced stages of decomposition,’’ court records show. “His stomach was obviously bloated, his eyes were glossy, and he was emitting a strong, foul odor. Noah had blood on his genitals and buttocks.’’

Johnson has a history of CPS complaints filed against her regarding Noah and her 2-year-old daughter dating back to 2015. One of them alleges that her daughter tested positive for marijuana. In the report, Johnson told investigators she smoked the drug during her pregnancy until December 2014.

Johnson is scheduled to appear in Wyoming District Court for a probable cause hearing August 2. She faces up to life in prison if convicted of both murder and child abuse charges.

RONKONKOMA, NY — A 14-year-old baby sitter, her boyfriend and mother have been arrested for leaving a baby at a Long Island, New York casino, police said Wednesday.

Police arrested the trio Tuesday, a day after officials said the child's 21-year-old mother hired the sitter – who claimed to be 18 years old – through sittercity.com.

"Be sure when you go on these websites, you need to vet the baby sitters yourself," *Suffolk County Police Chief of Department Stuart Cameron said.
When the mother failed to pick up her 9-month-old child Monday, the 14-year-old baby sitter called police around 6:40 p.m. that evening.

The baby sitter told the responding officers that the issue had been resolved and an arrangement to meet the mother had been made.

The arrangement allegedly involved the mother meeting the caregivers, which included the 14-year-old baby sitter; her mother, Dejuana Stewart, 44; and her 16-year-old boyfriend, at a casino in Islandia.

Another dispute regarding the pickup ensued, and the caregivers decided to leave 9-month-old Aiden at the casino when the mother once again failed to arrive, police said.

The boyfriend, a Brooklyn resident, allegedly left the baby on a bench outside the casino and began walking toward the trio's vehicle before returning to the bench, picking up the child, and taking the baby to a security member inside the casino, saying he just found the infant.

The caregivers then left the casino, police said.

Investigators later watched surveillance footage at the casino and recognized the boyfriend from the initial call, according to police.

Officers then returned to the same Ronkonkoma home they went to after the baby sitter's initial call and arrested all three.

Stewart and the two minors face charges of endangering the welfare of a child, police said. The child's mother is not being charged and the baby has been returned to her.

Sittercity sent the following statement to WPIX regarding the incident:

Safety for sitters and families is the top priority for Sittercity. In addition to providing a full suite of tools and resources for families through our Trust & Safety Center, we verify the identity of sitters through Experian. As a policy, we do not allow sitters under the age of 18 to register. We understand that the sitter in this case used a false birthdate when registering because she was under 18 years old. We immediately removed her from the site as soon as we learned about this matter, and we are grateful to know that the baby is safe at home.

A 14-year-old babysitter, her boyfriend and her mother were arrested for abandoning an infant at a Long Island casino Monday night, officials said.

Cops said the infant’s mother, who was not named, hired the sitter, who claimed to be 18 years old, through babysitting website sittercity.com Monday.

“People may assume that when they go on a website like this, that the babysitters have been vetted in some manner,” Suffolk County police Chief Stuart Cameron said to ABC7. “Obviously that clearly was not the case here. The babysitter purported to be 18 years old.”

The trio called police after the mother didn’t show up to pick up her 9-month-old baby at the agreed time. When cops arrived at the home, the sitter said they’d already resolved the issue.

The babysitter, her 16-year-old boyfriend and her mother, Dejuana Stewart, arranged to meet the baby’s mother at Jake’s 58 Hotel & Casino in Islandia, N.Y.

But another dispute about payment and pickup followed, and the mother once again failed to show up, according to authorities. Police said the caregivers then left the baby in a carrier on a bench outside the casino.

Police said security footage shows the babysitter’s boyfriend initially leaving the carrier on the bench and getting back in the car, then returning to the bench and bringing the child to a security guard inside. He reportedly told the guard that he found the baby outside, then drove away with his girlfriend and her mom.

Cops said they recognized the 16-year-old boy in the footage from another incident they’d responded to — the call from the babysitter’s home. All three were arrested on child endangerment charges. Suffolk County Child Protective Services were notified of the incident.

The babysitter and her boyfriend were not identified because they’re minors.

A baby girl was discovered all alone on a doorstep in Brooklyn Friday afternoon and was rescued by a neighbor.

Renee Jaikaran told The Post she went outside her East New York house and saw the child on the ground next door.

“I saw the baby on the doorstep on the far left side of the door,” Jaikaran, 42, said. “She was just sitting there, crying, no shoes on, just crying.”

The woman picked up the child, who was dressed in pink, and tried to *console her.

“I have three kids of my own,” she said, “I was just trying to comfort her and calm her down and stuff.”

Jaikaran called police and the baby was taken to Brookdale Hospital.

The next-door neighbor said the baby wasn’t his and may have been left there by the mother.

“How do you just leave a baby like that and just go?” Jaikaran said.

“I was really, really shocked to see a baby right there just crying.”

JASPER, Fla. (WCTV) – Arrest records reveal new details on what led up to a 19-month-old being left outside during Tropical Storm Irma.

The little girl’s father, 36-year-old Angelo Mitchell, is charged with child cruelty, accused of abandoning the toddler in the storm.

According to the arrest report, the girl’s mother called police early Monday to the family’s home near the corner of 11th Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive in Jasper.

She told investigators Mitchell left the house with the toddler in his car at about 11 o’clock the night before.

The mother told investigators when Mitchell came back to the house about two hours later, he didn’t have the little girl with him. He told the toddler’s mother he’d left her at the house and never had her, according to the arrest report.

Officers and deputies searched the area and used a tracking dog to try to find the child, but came up empty.

Under questioning by investigators, Mitchell insisted his daughter was safe, was never with him, and must be with a family friend.

The frantic search for a 4-year-old girl missing from her mother's home in Southwest Philadelphia ended with hugs from family members Tuesday morning.

NBC10 cameras captured the joyful reunion of Isabella Wiley wif her fambly members around 8:45 a.m.

Isabella's mother last saw her between 2 and 4 a.m. when she stepped out of their Bartram Village home to get some ice from a McDonald's store because she was hot, Philadelphia Police Lt. John Walker said. When the mother returned she went back to sleep in another room and didn't notice Isabella missing until later.

Isabella had woken up and went outside looking for her mother, her grandfather told NBC10's Matt DeLucia.

A neighbor heard Isabella crying outside and took her in, the girl even falling asleep at one point, the neighbor told NBC10.

That neighbor later let everyone know the girl was safe in the neighbor's home. The neighbor, who has mental disabilities, won't be charged as she did the right thing taken the child in but she should have immediately contacted police, Walker said.

The girl's mother was taken in for questioning and could face charges since she left the 4-year-old and a 7-year-old sibling alone in the home, investigators said.

The search focused on the area around Bartram Village at 56th Street and Lindbergh Boulevard around 7:30 a.m.

About one dozen police vehicles could be seen around the complex as officers and K-9s searched on foot along some trails and wooded areas around nearby Bartram's Garden. A police search boat could also be seen on the nearby Schuylkill River.

Police initially said Isabella is 3 but her fabily later said she is actually 4.

Mom Kicked out Son From Car, Then Abandoned Nine Other Kids in Freezing Van

A Maryland mom was charged with nine counts of child neglect and nine counts of leaving children unattended last week, nearly a year after she allegedly kicked her 12-year-old son out of a car and then abandoned her other nine children in a minivan.

Police said it took 10 months to charge Marshall with the crime because of interviews that needed to be conducted and the process of placing the children in protective care.

Sheri Marshall, 36, was taking her 10 children to a grandmother’s house on Dec. 16 when she allegedly got into an argument with her 12-year-old son, kicked him out of her car and abandoned him on Interstate 495 in Greenbelt. She continued driving until the minivan ran out of gas on a highway in Takoma Park, according to FOX5 DC.

On the morning of Dec. 18, the children found their mother gone.
Then, the children left and walked to a gas station to get food with money they scrounged from the minivan and got provisions from a gas station.

Later, when they got to the La Chiquita Restaurant to get more food, as WJLA reported, the staff called 911 and fed the children. Several of the younger ones had soiled pants and diapers. The children, however, were not harmed and were reportedly in good spirits the whole time, police said.

The youngsters told officials that their mother had been “acting strangely” leading up to the incident. In one example, she took them for walks outside at 4 a.m. every night.

The mother was found wandering through traffic in the town and was under the influence of drugs, police said. The children also told police their mother was “acting strangely.” They were all uninjured during the incident.

The children were placed with family members. Marshall is expected to appear in court next month and is fighting to regain custody of her children.

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The mother of the newborn baby girl found in a dumpster two weeks ago has been arrested and identified by police.

Althea Johnson, 27, was arrested Tuesday morning and is facing a charge of abandoning a child, a second-degree felony.

The newborn was found in a dumpster at the Mira Vista Apartment at 9601 Middle Fiskville Rd., near Rundberg Lane, around 6:55 a.m. on Oct. 25.

A witness said the umbilical cord was still attached to the baby. The girl, who was initially rushed to the hospital in critical condition, has been released from the hospital and is with family, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services said.

The day after the newborn was found, Austin police said they knew who the mother was, but would not identify her publicly to protect the integrity of their investigation.

The newborn’s two siblings were placed with other family members by Child Protective Services, which also has custody of the newborn girl.

Teresa Reese, who lives in the apartment complex, told KXAN she was getting ready to take her daughter to school when she saw a man hovering over the dumpster. The man asked her for the name of the apartment complex and told her there was a baby inside the dumpster. “I just started crying hysterically,” Reese said.”

She went on to say, “My life will never be the same because of this experience… No child should ever have to go through that.”

An Austin Police Department child abuse detective will be speaking about the case Wednesday at 10 a.m. KXAN will live stream the press briefing online.

After the newborn was found, officials reminded parents that unharmed newborn babies can be brought to any hospital, fire station or emergency medical services (EMS) station in Texas without the fear of being prosecuted for abandonment or neglect. For more information on designated Safe Havens, visit the Department of Family and Protective Services website.
