COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

A Lexington County woman convicted of killing her estranged husband was sentenced Wednesday to 30 years in prison without parole.

It only took a few days for a jury to convict Shellie Davis, 41, of killing her estranged husband back in September 2011. The jury announced the conviction Friday.

Davis was sentenced Wednesday morning.

Investigators said Davis shot and killed Jermaine Davis in September 2010 at an apartment complex in West Columbia.

After the shooting, Davis drove to a friend's home near Charlotte and shot herself in the head. She survived, but was in critical condition for several days.

The couple had five children together.

Hall-murder-suspect.jpg

A Hall County man is accused of killing his 70-year-old grandmother, police said Friday night.

Around 2:30 p.m. Friday, deputies responded to a Gainesville-area home after a report of a woman being assaulted, Deputy John Marshall with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office said. Paramedics transported Lula Bell Howard, 70, to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where she later died, Marshall said.

Howard’s grandson was later arrested and charged with her death, the sheriff’s office said.

Ronnie Quqomeki Rucker, 32, of Gainesville, was booked into the Hall County jail, Marshall said. He is awaiting his first court appearance.

No details about a possible motive were released late Friday.

Rucker is a convicted felon and has twice served in state prison, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections. He was most recently released in December after serving nearly four years following an aggravated battery conviction, records show.

From June 2007 until April 2009, Rucker served time for his conviction for aggravated assault.

Prosecutors: Woman killed boyfriend for not buying her anything from shopping mall
4:39 p.m. CDT, May 2, 2014

A judge set bail today at $1 million for a pregnant woman accused of fatally stabbing her boyfriend at their Southwest Side home after they fought because the man didn’t’ buy anything for her at a shopping mall.:p

Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil set the bail for Miata Phelan, 24, of the 6800 block of South Talman Avenue, who is charged with first-degree murder.

The visibly pregnant Phelan, who appeared in court today wearing pink sweat pants with black stripes, a pink top, and black leather jacket, allegedly plunged a knife into Larry Martin’s left flank on April 30, prosecutors said.

Martin, 28, is the father of her unborn child and they lived together.

Before the stabbing happened, Phelan, Martin, Martin’s 8-year-old son and 25-year-old cousin, a man, went shopping at a shopping mall. On the way home, Phelan accused Martin of being selfish because he bought things for his cousin and son but not for her, Asst. State’s Attorney Glen Runk said.

Court records show Phelan turned 24 on May 1.

Runk said Phelan struck Martin while he was driving, almost causing an accident, and after Phelan drove to Martin’s mother's home to drop off shoes for Martin’s brother, she kicked and scratched Martin before driving away in his car, leaving Martin, his 8-year-old and Martin’s cousin outside.

The three walked to the couple’s nearby apartment and when Phelan arrived about the same time, she and Martin began arguing again and she locked the three outside, Runk said.

Martin banged on the door until she opened it and once inside, Phelan stabbed Martin in his side with a knife, Runk said. The boy entered the apartment directly behind Martin and saw Phelan stabbing him. The cousin heard Martin scream in pain and ran into the apartment, Runk said.

The cousin applied pressure to the wound and helped him outside to the sidewalk where Martin collapsed and the cousin called 911, Runk said.

Runk said Martin’s 8-year-old saw Phelan as she stood over him on the sidewalk, screaming: “This is what you get for messing with me,’’ Runk said, quoting Phelan. “I hope you die, mother f-----,’’ :cool:Runk said, quoting Phelan.

Martin was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was pronounced dead.

Police: Standoff suspect arrested along with family members

JONESBORO, GA (CBS46) -

A suspect wanted by Clayton County authorities was arrested Monday night along with members of his family.

Clayton County and Gwinnett County Sheriff's deputies arrested Joseph Poke, 34, in Gwinnett County. A stun gun was used to subdue him. according to a statement posted on the Clayton County sheriff's office Facebook page. Three of Poke's family members were also arrested for obstruction at the location.

Clayton County police began searching for Poke after they thought he was inside a home on Post Oak Road they had surrounded for hours Sunday. Police received a call about a domestic disturbance around 3 p.m. When they arrived, they attempted to get Poke to come out.

When he did not respond to their calls, they called in the SWAT team and evacuated the homes around the one police thought he was inside.

For several hours, they painstakingly attempted to determine if Poke was inside the home and if he was armed.

According to a neighbor, before police arrived, Poke was choking and punching his girlfriend. The neighbor also claims to have seen a gun in Poke's waistband.

Poke has had several run-ins with the law. In addition to burglary charges, he was convicted of aggravated assault in 2001 and sentenced to 20 years in prison. His current girlfriend's mother claims it was for stabbing his then-girlfriend.

He served a little more than half of his sentence before being paroled in 2010.

A short time ago, he started dating his current girlfriend. According to her mother, the relationship has been an abusive one.

Poke's current girlfriend apparently was familiar with his past and the fact that he was wanted in several counties around Metro Atlanta.

She allegedly hid those details from police when she reported her car being shot at a few weeks back by a man she claims is the brother of her ex-husband. According to her mother, Poke, her daughter and her grandson were in the car at the time of the shooting.

According to her mother, Poke's current girlfriend was arrested after the standoff on suspicion of obstruction of justice charges related to her previous accounts of what happened with that shooting.

Poke fled the scene before police could surround the home.

Poke's brother Eddie claimed Joseph Poke did not have a gun and that the neighbors did not see what they claimed to have seen.

Eddie Poke admitted that it is past time he had a talk with his brother about how his life is turning out, and said he just wanted him to turn himself in so he can pay whatever penalty he faces for Sunday's actions and start a new life.

A Swatara Township man was charged with attempted homicide after police said he fractured his wife’s skull by beating her in the head with a decorative ceramic statue.

Cyrus Jerome Jackson, 35, was being held
as of Wednesday morning in lieu of $500,000 bail in Dauphin County Prison. He also is charged with aggravated assault.

Jackson was found Sunday at his home on Pajabon Drive with a basket full of clothing and police said he admitted he was preparing to leave the state to live in Georgia.

He told police in an interview that he and his wife got in an argument early Sunday, at which point he said he “lost it,” according to Swatara Township police Cpl. Timothy Shatto, who filed charging documents in the case.

Jackson told police the argument stemmed from his wife’s behavior when her friends visited the couple’s apartment.

He acknowledged throwing her to the floor, beating her in the head and face with his fists and then using the statue to strike her in the head three or four times, according to charging documents. The attack occurred around 3 a.m. Sunday, Jackson told police.

Jackson told police at 1 p.m. later that day he drove and dropped off his wife at the Community General Osteopathic Hospital because she was having serious health problems. That’s where hospital staff told a detective she had suffered multiple fractures of her skull and indicated the woman may lose an eye, police said.

Jackson also acknowledged in a video taped interview with police that he attempted to clean blood from the carpet and several areas in his apartment.

Investigators said a search of Jackson’s apartment revealed blood spatter and bloodstained clothing in a bathroom. They also said they found the bloodstained, broken ceramic statue in a trash can, according to charging documents.

10th-grader admits to murdering parents because they took away iPod
Posted 5:46 pm, May 28, 2014,

Norfolk, Va. – A smart and talented Norview High School 10th-grader admitted in court today he killed his parents a week before Christmas because he was weary of their seemingly routine punishments, “like my dad taking away my iPod and stuff.”

Vincent Parker attacked his mother Carol as she emerged from an upstairs bathroom in their Bland Street home. He admitted to police he doused his mother with pepper spray, stabbed her in the eye, and then beat her in the face and head with a baseball bat and a crowbar “until she stopped breathing.” A medical examiner identified 25 separate smashes and stabs to Carol Parker’s neck, face and head.

When Vincent’s father Wayne Parker came home, Vincent struck him with a crowbar and stabbed him several times. Wayne Parker lived long enough to tell police what happened. After first trying to say his father was the aggressor, Vincent admitted he killed his parents. Vincent was Carol and Wayne’s only child.

“I just remember getting mad,” he told investigators. “It’s all from my dad. All this stuff like my dad taking away my iPod and stuff.”
