CINCINNATI —A Tri-State mother accused of beating her children and shocking them with a stun gun was indicted Wednesday.

The kids said Kamilah Harris, of Lincoln Heights, beat them with extension cords, poles, belts, and shocked them repeatedly.

Police found Harris' 11-year-old son wandering the streets late at night a few weeks ago.

When they asked why he wasn't at home, he said if he went home his mother would just continue to beat him.

Officers said the boy was covered in bruises and burn marks from the stun gun.

PHOENIX (AP) - A Phoenix man is accused of whipping his 11-year-old son and putting hot peppers in the boy's eyes.

Sampson Kamara was released on bond Friday after an initial court appearance for three felony counts of child abuse.

Kamara was released pending a June 5 status conference and June 9 preliminary hearing.

He does not have an attorney and one will be appointed for him.

The 38-year-old was arrested Thursday by Phoenix police.

Court documents show the boy told a school counselor his father whipped him with a belt and an extension cord. The boy said Kamara would heat hot peppers and water before putting the mixture in his eyes.

Authorities say the boy had scars on his back, shoulders and chest consistent with a whipping.

EVERETT, Mass. —An Everett police officer was charged Friday after he was accused of beating his 10-year-old son.

Officer Jermaine Bellard, 32, of Saugus, allegedly whipped his son 14 times with a belt.

Prosecutors said Bellard was angry after the boy's principal called to say the child was misbehaving in school. The boy showed his mother a bruise and welts that were on his lower body, prosecutors said.

Doctors who treated the child for his injuries notified police.

Bellard, who joined the police force in 2012, was arraigned in Lynn District Court on one count of assault and battery on a child with injury and held on $1,000 bail.

The child is from Bellard's previous relationship. Bellard has two other children with his wife, who was in court to support him.

Abuse of infant earns mother 6 years in prison

bilde

FORT WAYNE – She admitted to throwing her infant daughter against the wall because she couldn't get her to stop crying. That crime got her a six-year prison sentence this week in Allen Superior Court.

On Monday, Judge John Surbeck sentenced Ashley A. Strong, 28, to a total of 10 years in prison, but he ordered six years to be served behind bars and the remaining four years to be served on probation.

Strong, also known as Ashley Walton, called 911 in January to blame the incident on her 3-year-old daughter. She told dispatchers the girl dropped the 3-week-old infant on the floor, according to court documents.

But when police arrived, Strong said she was sleeping in bed with the children and awoke to one of them crying. She said she picked the baby up and said the back of the infant's head was “floppy.”

Man accused of brutally beating child for misspelling name

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. —

A Gwinnett County man is in jail after neighbors say he beat a 4-year-old child because the boy didn't spell his name correctly.

Channel 2’s Tony Thomas was the only reporter in the Gwinnett County courtroom Wednesday afternoon as the man made his first court appearance.

Anthony Burgess asked for a court-appointed lawyer and remains in jail.

Police say he beat his girlfriends’ son with a belt so hard that the child's skin split open.

No one was home, but there were indications scattered across the lawn a small child lived in the Smokecreek Parkway mobile home.

“Ever hear of anything? No they were pretty quiet. They usually stay inside,” said Lenny Barbaro.

A neighbor was surprised at the allegations that Burgess beat his girlfriend’s 4-year-old so hard with a leather belt that it caused open wounds. But another neighbor Thomas spoke with on the phone says she heard it all.

“I heard a man's voice cursing and telling the kid to shut up over and over and over,” Barbaro said.

She says the beating continued for 15 to 20 minutes – so loud she could hear it from across the street. In a police report an officer wrote, the boy’s mother told him "her son could not write his name down properly and gave her an attitude,” so that's why burgess began striking him.

“That’s what the man kept yelling. He kept saying ‘You’re going to write this. You’re going to write this. You’re going to sit here and right this and you’re not that hurt.’ Those were his exact words,” Barbaro said.

Police say they noticed signs of previous beatings as well.

Orlando woman accused of injuring girl's eye in beating with belt
Niysheba Butts arrested on felony child abuse charges

8/15/14

ORLANDO, Fla. -

A 27-year-old woman was arrested in Orange County on allegations of beating a child with a belt and injuring her eye because the child would not eat her food.

Niysheba Butts, of Orlando, was arrested Thursday on felony child abuse charges.

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, authorities were contacted after the girl was dropped off at the Peekaboo Learning Center with a patch over her eye. Butts told daycare workers that the girl had fallen off her bed, according to deputies.

The girl, however, later became upset and was crying, saying her eye hurt, deputies said. She told a worker that Butts beat her with a belt because she wouldn't eat all her food, according to deputies.

Daycare workers said the girl's eye was bruised and swollen shut, said deputies, who added that the girl's ear and back were also bruised.

The Florida Department of Children and Families and Fire Rescue were contacted, and the girl was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando for treatment.

The girl's siblings also told authorities that Butts beat the girl with a belt, according to deputies.

A deputy interviewed Butts, who said her children were prone to exaggerate and she didn't beat her children.

Mother asks judge for 'the worst,' after man charged with abuse of 2-month-old son

NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) -

The mother of a two-month-old boy facing life-threatening injuries after police say his father abused him, says the infant is still in the hospital and is showing little brain activity.

The boy's father, Damonte Seabrook, 29, was charged with inflicting great bodily injury to a child on Wednesday night. On Thursday morning, a judge set bond for Seabrook at $500,000.

Courtney Washington, the victim's mother, let out an emotional plea before the judge, saying she just learned the graphic details of what happened to her child hours before.

"I just want you to give him the worst," she said.

North Charleston Police responded to a call Wednesday morning at approximately 11:13 a.m. and Seabrook led them to the couch where his two-month-old son was lying unresponsive, the incident report states.

According to court documents, among the injuries, hospital physicians reported abusive head trauma, a skull fracture, and brain hemorrhaging.

Those documents also say the 2-month-old victim had bruising to the shoulders and thighs consistent with grab marks.

Seabrook told police he had been giving the baby a sponge bath near the couch, when the baby began coughing. He said he picked up the baby and began bouncing him in an attempt to clear the baby's cough. He said the baby, still wet from the bath, slipped through his hands and landed on the kitchen floor.

After the baby landed on the floor, he stopped responding and stopped breathing, Seabrook said.

Seabrook told police he attempted to perform CPR on the infant, but that the baby began gasping, then coughing up blood and milk, but that the baby stopped breathing again.

The man's brother told police he was a witness to the incident and confirmed his brother's story, the incident report states.

When police noticed a onesie saturated with water on the couch and asked about, Seabrook's brother said the father had dressed the baby after the accident, but then placed it under the shower head in an attempt to revive the infant. When that didn't work, the father undressed him again, he told police.

The brother called 911, he told police, when he realized the father's effort to revive the child were not working.

The hospital director for its Child Abuse Pediatric Division, where the victim is being treated, confirmed the injuries sustained by the 2-month old did not line up with Seabrook's explanation.

Exclusive: Father Of Baby On Life Support Speaks Out After Mom’s Boyfriend Charged
September 10, 2014 11:52 PM

DORAL(CBSMiami)—The father of a 5-month-old boy who is on life support spoke out exclusively to CBS4 after the mother’s boyfriend was charged with child abuse.

“It’s horrible. He’s a helpless being. There is no reason why somebody should do something like that to a baby,” said the child’s father, Adolfo Bravo.

Bravo said his son will be six months old this Sunday and is on life support at Miami Children’s Hospital. He said he may not survive.

The case came to the attention of CBS4 after a number of posts on social media about the child known as “Baby Andres.”

A post on Instagram said “Baby Andres” was brought in to Miami Children’s Hospital two days ago and said the mother claimed he had fallen off a bed. But the post said doctors said the injuries were consistent with the baby being shaken and abused.

Adolfo Bravo posted on Facebook that his son “did not have damage consistent with falling off a bed.” He said there was hemorraghing consistent with shaking a baby and he said his son’s lower back was black and blue.

“They said my son fell off the bed but all the signs pointed to him being shaken,” said Bravo.

On Wednesday morning, Miami-Dade Police arrested 28-year-old Antwan Sawyer and charged him with aggravated child abuse with great bodily harm.

Police: Mom jailed, warrant out for dad accused of child abuse

WILKINSBURG, Pa. —

Police said one or both of two Wilkinsburg parents are guilty of child abuse.

Dalishia Salter, 23, is jailed, and a warrant is out for David Bryant, 34, after police said a flat screen television fell off of a dresser and on top of their infant son during an argument.

“The mother says the baby’s father pushed the television off the dresser, and it landed on the baby,” said Sgt. Wayne McKenith.

Police said the baby was bleeding from the head.

“Our officers discovered injuries to the baby’s face and also other bruising,” said McKenith.

Doctors at UPMC Children’s Hospital told police the child’s mouth was torn on the inside as if an object had been pushed in with great force. They also said it look like the child had been hurt before.

“Officers were notified that these injuries were consistent with some long-term abuse because some of the injuries were in a state of healing,” said McKenith.

Man Charged With Whipping Boy With Electric Cord

CHICAGO (STMW) – A 13-year-old boy who failed to bring a parent to a parent-teacher conference at his school last May was whipped with an electric cord by an “angry” family member, prosecutors alleged in court Sunday.

The relative, Mario J. Boone, was charged with aggravated domestic battery. Boone, 38, appeared in Cook County Court on Sunday, and Judge Peggy Chiampas set his bail at $10,000, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

On May 27, the boy — who lived with Boone at the time — was brought home from school for failing to bring a parent to the conference, Assistant State’s Attorney Andres Almendarez said.

Boone ordered the boy to strip off his clothes and sent him to the basement of the home in the 11700 block of Eggleston in West Pullman. Boone entered the basement, punched the boy in the face and whipped him with a 5-foot-long extension cord for about 10 minutes, prosecutors said. Then he ordered the boy to clean the kitchen.

Then next two days, Boone did not allow the boy to go to school because he had visible injuries, prosecutors said. Eventually, the boy was taken to his grandmother’s house and she called the boy’s mother.

The boy was taken to South Shore Hospital, where he was treated for over 50 welts and cuts to his face, back, legs and arms, prosecutors said.

Harvey mom jailed after boy, 7, shows up to school with swollen eye, missing tooth

A Harvey mother has been arrested after authorities say she beat her 7-year-old son so badly he lost a tooth.

Mursheika Hall, 28, was arrested
Friday (Oct. 24) on one count of cruelty to a juvenile, the same day deputies with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office say she beat her son and dropped him off at school in bloody clothes and with a swollen eye.

The boy told authorities his mother became angry when his 3-year-old sister slid off his stomach and fell on the ground, an arrest report says.

Hall chased the boy with a belt, attempting to hit him, the arrest report says. The boy told deputies he tried moving out of the belt's way to avoid getting struck, and that his mother threw the belt to the ground and then punched him in his right eye and slapped him in the face. Hall then took her son to school, and someone contacted JPSO.

While interviewing the boy, the deputy saw blood on the child's clothes, that he was missing a tooth and had a swollen right eye, the report says.

ST PETERSBURG, FL (WFLA) -

St. Petersburg Police are investigating a case of child abuse that left a toddler in a full body cast.

Investigators were called to All Children's hospital where the 2-year old was being treated to check out an apparent case of child abuse. 34-year old Deontray Antwan Bonner-Walker brought the boy to the hospital, his mother's live in boyfriend, with the child's maternal grandmother.

Doctors examined the boy and determined he's suffered a broken leg and other injuries that were inconsistent with an accident. The toddler's mother had gone into labor that night, and Bonner-Walker was in sole custody of the boy.

Investigators questioned Bonner-Walker, and he told them he had no idea how the child was injured. Further investigation revealed the 2-year old also had a fractured rib, a lacerated liver, injury to the pancreas, bruising to the feet, shin and center chest area.

NEWTON, N.C. —

Police in Newton have arrested a man for child abuse, accusing him of causing “horrific trauma” to his girlfriend’s 7-month-old son.

Officers said they responded to 711-E Sandalwood Court on Dec. 31 to assist EMS on a call and when they got there they were told that the boy was found not breathing by his mother’s boyfriend -- Tyler Linebarger.

The child was rushed to Catawba Valley Medical Center for treatment.

Linebarger, 23, told officers that the child was lying on the sofa asleep and that he went upstairs to take a shower. He then told police that when he came back downstairs the child was lying on the floor.

Police said Linebarger told them that he picked up the child and placed him back on the sofa and went back upstairs.

When Linebarger returned downstairs, he said he noticed the child blue and not breathing. He then said he went to a neighbor’s apartment to call 911.

The child’s mother told officers that she last saw her son at 5:40 a.m. when she left for work and he was fine.

Officers and DSS officials went to the hospital and learned that an examination of the boy at Catawba Valley Medical Center revealed recent and past injuries that were severe in nature. Police said the child was transported to Levine’s Children’s Hospital in Charlotte for treatment and was immediately taken for surgery upon arrival.

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Memphis police arrested a man who they say abused a 3-year-old boy over cheesecake.

The police affidavit details the painful abuse the young boy endured. Police say 30-year-old Anthony Gulledge broke the child's femur bone in his leg, dislocated a vertebrae in his back, bruised the boy's lungs, and caused several bruises.

Doctors are treating the child at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital.

According to police, the boy's mother told officers Gulledge came home Saturday, upset that her son had apparently eaten the last piece of cheesecake.

He reportedly grabbed the boy by his ankles, and carried him to the living room where Gulledge whipped the boy.

She says Gulledge also whipped him again on Saturday night.

On Sunday, the boy's mother called police and officers arrested Gulledge, who denies the allegations.

Winter Haven, Florida -- Detectives have arrested a couple for the abuse of an 8-year-old boy.

Detectives received a call from the child's school when a staff member saw scratches and bruising on his face and neck. According to interviews, the child said Jeems Saint-Louis "whooped" him numerous times on his behind. When asked about the bruising on his neck and face, the child stated that Saint-Louis had grabbed his neck with his hand, causing noticeable finger marks and bruising on the neck and punched him on the sides of his face.

Further interviews with the child revealed that Adylne Paul was present when the abuse happened, but did nothing to intervene or stop the abuse.

Saint-Louis told detectives that he disciplined the child because he told a lie, but denied excessive beatings. However, when pressed about the marks on the child's face and neck, Saint-Lois stated, "I just don't like being lied to."

Detectives responded, "Neither do we."
