COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A suburban woman is accused of attacking a Chicago teen with a cooking pan, knife and mace during a robbery Friday.

Autumn Leak, 20, of the 12200 block of Fairway Circle in Blue Island, was charged with armed robbery and appeared in bond court on Sunday.

Leak met up with her "on-and-off" teenage girlfriend on Friday at a CTA stop near the girl's home, according to Assistant State's Attorney Bridget O'Brien. The victim is 16, according to a police report.

Leak went back with the girl to her home in the 3000 block of West Jackson Boulevard in East Garfield Park, and invited someone else to come over, O'Brien said.

Leak's accomplice arrived and the three went inside a room, where the unidentified co-assailant pushed the teen onto a bed and held her there, O'Brien said.

Leak told the girl not to move, and during the course of the robbery, the teen was cut by a knife and mace was sprayed in her face, O'Brien said. A cooking pan :rolleyes:was also used as a weapon sometime during the robbery, according to the report.

The victim's cellphone along with two computers and two Xbox video-game systems were stolen, according to prosecutors and the report.

The victim suffered a blunt-force injury to her head and a cut to her right arm that required eight stitches, according the report. She was treated and released from Rush University Medical Center, the report states.

Leak was arrested at her home on Saturday after being identified by the victim as one of the two people who robbed her, according to the report.

2 former bus drivers accused of running ID theft ring by Mike Petchenik

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. —
Two former Fulton County school bus drivers are facing charges they were running an elaborate identity-theft ring out of a local hotel room.

Police told Channel 2's Mike Petchenik a victim in Connecticut called investigators after her credit card company noted fraudulent activity on the card at a Marriott property on Westside Parkway.

When officers got to the room, they said, they immediately became suspicious while talking to Edna Wright.

"Upon visually looking into the room while speaking to her, they noticed numerous credit cards and gift cards laid out on the table," said Officer George Gordon.

Gordon said a search of the hotel room, the Wrights' car and their apartment turned up equipment commonly used to manufacture bogus cards.

"They acquire the correct name to use by using the magnetic scanner to the back of the card," he said. "They'll take that information, emboss the actual name and other identifying numbers on the front of the card, and pass that off as being legitimate."

Petchenik confirmed the couple worked as bus drivers for the Fulton County school system. Spokeswoman Susan Hale confirmed the district only learned of the arrests after Channel 2 inquired about them. She said the Wrights were no longer employed by the department. Police said there's no evidence the couple's job played any role in the alleged crimes.

A woman who answered the door at the Wrights' Alpharetta apartment said they weren't home for comment. Petchenik reached Sherrod Wright by phone, and Wright said he would contact his attorney and get back in touch with Petchenik. So far, he's not heard back from Wright.

Online records show both suspects left the Fulton County jail after posting bond.

Kemper Co. Burglary Arrest by Andrea Williams
Vid at link

Kemper County, Miss. An arrest has been made and some items recovered from two burglaries in Kemper County. Among the items recovered are: a gun, jewelry, pocket knife and other things that are all thought to have been stolen from the same house . It was June 1st, and then again mere months later on September 1st, when thousands of dollars worth of items were stolen from a house on Highway 16 West of DeKalb. Charged in the case is the victim's next door neighbor.

"On the second call we had an officer two minutes away and when the officer got there he found out that the house had been broken into, but was unable to find anyone there," says Sheriff James Moore. "So, that led us to believe that whoever was in there was very close."

With no tips resulting from a $1,000 reward that was offered by the victim's son, Sheriff Moore says hard work by investigators cracked the case.

"We were able to track one of the guns that was stolen from the house. It changed hands about six times before we were able to tie it to him and once that was done we brought him in for questioning and one thing led to another," says Moore. "Once we were able to tie him to that, Investigator Joyner got a search warrant on his home, and at that time we discovered several more items that came from the house and probably from other places too."

With one of the stolen guns recovered, and at least nine others still missing, investigators are looking for those while also trying to determine whether there's more stolen jewelry from the house that is yet to be found.

As of Monday morning 49-year-old Lee Edward Rush was only charged with the burglary which happened June First, and his bond was set at $25,000. Anyone with information that can help with the ongoing investigation is asked to call the Kemper County Sheriff's Department at (601) 743-2255 .

Selfies on stolen phone post to victim’s Facebook

A pair of suspected phone thieves are posing for the camera and end up on the victim's Facebook page.

Police said a woman reported her purse stolen inside a bar
near 61st Street and South Lewis Avenue on Sept. 16.

"A few hours later up on her Facebook page comes these photos of the suspects," said Tulsa Police Sgt. Kurt Dodd.

The pictures are known as “selfies,” in which people take a photo of themselves and post it to social media.

Police released three photos of the women. Two women took selfies in a car and there was another picture of one of the women gazing out the window. All three photos were uploaded to the victim's Facebook.

"Every time she takes a photograph it automatically uploads to Facebook," said Dodd.

“She” is the victim who told police she got her purse stolen at Mad Murphy's Irish Pub on 59th Street and South Avenue.

"When we got the report we thought it automatically syncs to your Facebook and we all immediately check our phones, 'Oh my gosh what is going on here?'" said Dodd.

The story gets fishy after the purse was stolen.

"Two guys approach her and say, “We can get your purse back,'"' said Dodd.

Police said the woman told them the men phone her purse but was her smartphone was missing.

"She talks to the guys about getting her phone back and the guys tell her, 'The girls who stole your purse took photos with your phone and they are not going to give their phone back,'" said Dodd.

The victim got fed up and reported it to police.

In one of the selfies you can see the women are near a Braums. Viewers on Facebook believe it's the Braums in the 7100 block of East Admiral Place. FOX23 News checked it out and the signs and buildings seen in the photo look similar to what is on that block.

Several people have responded on Facebook including tips pointing to one woman. Police need your help to get them identified.

Surveillance Video Helps Police Nab Suspect In Smash & Grab Robberies
October 3, 2013 5:39 PM

DEALE, Md. (WJZ) — Surveillance video helps Anne Arundel County police arrest a suspect linked to numerous smash and grab robberies at local businesses.

Monique Griego has more on how they tracked him down.

Police say the suspect wore a mask or disguise in all of these robberies. But this time, surveillance video captured something else.

A calculated and extremely quick robbery is caught on tape. Surveillance video from Parks Liquors in Deale, Maryland shows a suspect break the store’s window and climb inside. Ten seconds later, he’s back out and takes off with stolen cash in hand.

Anne Arundel County police arrested and identified the man as 54-year-old David Holland of Glen Burnie.

“[He] has been terrorizing our local business community going back to December 2012,” said Chief Kevin Davis, Anne Arundel County Police Department.

Police say Holland is suspected in countless smash and grab robberies in Maryland. They finally caught up with him last week after surveillance video captured the car he was driving.

Since July 28, detectives say he’s hit at least nine small businesses in Anne Arundel County.

Carretta Bunch and Robert Settles

Citizen tip leads to burglary arrests by Catherine Rogers

SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) - A citizen tip led investigators to two arrests and charges in burglary cases in two different jurisdictions.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, a citizen called Southampton County Sheriff Jack Stutts about a vehicle thought to be connected to burglaries that occurred on Sept. 25, according to Chief Deputy Gene Drewery with the Southampton County Sheriff's Office.

The citizen said a burgundy Ford Fusion was heading north from the Como area of Hertford County, N.C.

Stutts reported the tip to his office and a deputy located the car in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Franklin. The occupants were interviewed before deputies determined it was indeed the suspect vehicle connected to the robberies.

The occupants of the vehicle, 32-year-old Robert Settles and 31-year-old Carretta Bunch, were arrested in connection with the Southampton robberies in September. They were both charged with three counts of burglary and three counts of grand larceny.

After the arrest, Bunch traveled with investigators back to Hertford County. Drewery said Hertford County investigators were able to clear a number of burglaries as a result of the investigation.

Settles is being held in the Southampton County Jail without bond, and Bunch is being held in the Hertford County Jail.

Drewery said investigators are continuing to look into whether the two suspects are connected to other burglaries in Hertford County and Southampton County, as well as other jurisdictions.

Man Arrested for Overnight Home Invasion on Humphreys Street; Second Suspect Being Sought

Alert police work overnight by South Precinct Flex Officer Josh Hargrave led to the identification of two men suspected of taking part in Monday night’s home invasion robbery on Humphreys Street.

One of the suspects, Jacquese Allen, 20, is now jailed on charges of aggravated robbery, aggravated kidnapping, use of a gun in the commission of a dangerous felony and theft. A second man, Tyis Crutcher, 21, of Brick Church Pike, is being sought on the same charges. Crutcher, a convicted home burglar who received a three-year probated sentence in 2011, is last known to have lived in the 3200 block of Brick Church Pike. Efforts continue to locate him.

Allen and Crutcher are accused of kicking in the door of a Humphreys Street apartment at 11:40 p.m. Monday. Two female residents in their early 20s who had recently moved in were held for about 30 minutes at gunpoint while the suspects searched the residence for drugs (the women speculated the suspects were looking for the prior occupants). The suspects wound up taking a flat screen television and laptop computer before fleeing. One of the victims went outside as the suspects left and saw them drive away in a dark colored Nissan sedan.

Minutes later, Officer Hargrave spotted a car matching the description of the getaway vehicle pull behind the Dollar General Store at 78 Lafayette Street. Officer Hargrave initiated a stop. As he did, two passengers (one of whom is alleged to have been Crutcher) bailed from the vehicle. Allen, who was driving, stayed put. Allen confessed to his involvement in the crime during an interview with Detective Rick Heiman. Recovered from the Nissan were the victims’ television and computer as well as two pistols, one of which was reported stolen during a car burglary in June.

Allen is being held in lieu of $157,000 bond.

Anyone seeing Crutcher or knowing his whereabouts is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME. SF police seek men targeting ATM customers with scam

atm-scam.jpg

SAN FRANCISCO —

San Francisco police on Wednesday were looking for two men accused of targeting ATM customers in what officers described as a "shoulder surfing" scheme.

Investigators said the two are part of a coordinated group of thieves who peer over cardholder's shoulders as they enter their PIN.

That four digit number is then sent via text message to the group.

"One of those individuals will then get in line behind the victim and the use the PIN to get cash" said an undercover San Francisco Police Officer investigating the case.

Officers said ATMs operated by Bank of America have been targeted because of a flaw in the system when users don't completely log out

"Once they are finished, the ATM will say 'Do you want another transaction? Most people don't realize that. They just walk off," said the undercover officer.

With the question still on the screen, the thief answers "Yes" and enters the PIN that was sent via text message and withdraws cash.

Police said they recovered $11,000 from one man already arrested in the scheme.
