Rep. Comer vows to hold Hunter Biden in contempt of CongressRepresentative James Comer (R-KY) says Americans saw “a snapshot of the arrogance and entitlement” of Hunter Biden after the presidential son skipped his scheduled deposition with the House Oversight Committee yesterday and instead spoke to the press outside the Capitol. “We’ve been firm. We will hold him in contempt of Congress. This will not stand and we expect to see Hunter Biden in here for a deposition,” says Rep. Comer.

Congress has assembled a growing body of evidence that Hunter Biden’s dealings with a Chinese energy company that landed the family millions of dollars in 2017 actually began in 2015 and may have involved a meeting with his father before he left office as vice president, according to documents reviewed by Just the News.
The new evidence includes statements made to the FBI by a longtime Biden family friend who was involved in the deal with CEFC China Energy executives like its Chairman Ye Jianming, contemporaneous emails from Hunter Biden and testimony recently released from two IRS whistleblowers.
Those whistleblowers alleged they were kept from investigating evidence that payments from China to the Biden family that began in March 2017 may actually have been deferred from work done while Joe Biden was still vice president.
“The significance of the March 2017 was that they withheld payment from that Chinese company until then-Vice President Biden was no longer in office,” whistleblower Gary Shapley told the House Ways and Means Committee in testimony released a few days ago.
The revelations are taking on greater significance in the House impeachment inquiry after the release of a report from money laundering investigators monitoring Hunter Biden’s bank accounts. The bank investigators warned that payments from the CEFC deal bore resemblance to Chinese influence operations, according to an email made public recently by Congress.

The head of the House impeachment inquiry said Thursday night that congressional investigators are probing whether the Chinese payments were delayed to the Biden family avoid legal, intelligence and political scrutiny about why. sitting vice president's family was getting money from sources inside a communist country.
"I mean, they knew you weren't supposed to be negotiating with the Chinese while you're sitting in the vice presidency. I mean, that's a given," House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer told the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show.
"Even the Bidens, even as arrogant and entitled as they are they knew they were doing a big no no negotiating with the Chinese, but that's what it appears they were doing. So, you know, they tried to always make sure that Joe had plausible deniability. That's a term that continues to come up, especially when Joe Biden's brother, Jim is talking plausible deniability, meaning that you really can't prove Joe knew anything about it. And that's their whole case here," Comer explained.
"With our investigation, yeah okay, the Biden family are bunch of crooks. But Joe didn't know anything about it. Of course, he did. Joe Biden was the brand. And this money didn't just mysteriously start appearing right after Joe Biden left office, there were deals that were made, while Joe Biden was vice president," he added.
Abbe Lowell, Hunter Biden’s attorney, did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Just the News on Thursday.
On Wednesday, Hunter Biden held a news conference on Capitol Hill even as he defied a congressional subpoena, saying he wanted to ensure "illegitimate investigations of my family do not proceed on distortions, manipulated evidence and lies" while issuing a narrow denial that his father "was not financially involved in my business."
The younger Biden also alluded in his statement to the apparent deal with Ye and CEFC, calling it a "partnership with a private Chinese businessman." His emails, however, show that partnership was regularly discussed as a deal with the CEFC company, the CEFC executives were involved in its crafting and that the payments flowed to Biden connected accounts from a Chinese company associated with CEFC.
Comer told Just the News on Thursday night he is prepared to enforce the subpoena and ask a court to compel Hunter Biden's testimony. "He just basically gives the U.S. Congress a middle finger and says that he's a Biden. The rules don't apply to him. He would love to answer their questions and then he gets in his car and drives off without answering any questions," Comer said.
"We we will hold him in contempt of Congress. This will not stand, and we expect to see Hunter Biden in here for a deposition with respect to the vote," he added,
Just the News first reported on Hunter Biden’s dealings with CEFC and its chairman Ye Jianming three years ago. Those stories have since been corroborated by congressional inquiries, federal prosecutors and other major news media like The Washington Post.
James Biden, the president's brother and Hunter Biden's uncle and occasional business partner, told the FBI last year that the first family assisted CEFC with efforts to try to buy Western energy assets, including natural gas facilities in Louisiana, according to a copy of the interview made public by Congress. James Biden said the family under CEFC had connections directly to the communist leader of China, President Xi Jinping.
"James B noted (Hunter) portrayed CEFC to him as Chairman Ye was a protégé of President Xi," FBI agents wrote in the report.

The relationship between James Biden, Hunter Biden, Ye and other partners resulted in at least $9 million in payments to Biden-connected companies in 2017 alone after Joe Biden returned to private life. The payments included a $3 million “thank you” in March 2017, a $5 million loan in August 2017 and a $1 million legal retainer fee to Hunter Biden from CEFC official Patrick Ho after he was indicted on bribery charges, according to documents gathered by Congress and federal prosecutors.
Ho would later be sentenced to three years for international bribery and money laundering, according to the Department of Justice.
In recent weeks, congressional investigators have sharpened their focus on evidence indicating that Hunter Biden may have consummated the CEFC relationship much earlier than previously known, while his father was still Barack Obama’s vice president.
Of particular interest is an email from March 2016 in which Hunter Biden appeared to approve of an initial business agreement with CEFC. That email was found on Hunter Biden's abandoned laptop seized by the FBI in late 2019.
On March 22, 2016, Rob Walker—a Hunter Biden business partner who was involved with the CEFC business deals—wrote another partner, James Gilliar, and attached a document entitled “H to Zang.” “H” is often used by the business partners to refer to Hunter Biden and “Zang” is the name of Zang Jianjun, the executive director of CEFC China Energy, who worked directly for its Chairman, Ye Jianming.
Walker forwarded this email to Hunter Biden, asking him to review the attached document. “Take a look and let me know. Very simple. Once ok'd. I'll send to Joan to sign?” Walker asked.
“Yes,” Hunter Biden wrote back the same day.
Congress has the email but not the attached agreement, a document that could become more important to obtain as the impeachment inquiry heats up. Comer confirmed Thursday night his investigators intend to use subpoenas to get the attachment.

Congress also recently obtained two important documents from FBI files: A summary report and a transcript of an interview that agents conducted with Rob Walker on Dec. 8, 2020, one of the earliest events in the criminal investigation of Hunter Biden that resulted in two indictments on gun and tax evasion charges.
In that interview, Walker told agents he believed Joe Biden met with CEFC officials twice, once after he left the White House in 2017 and once while he was still vice president.
“Any times when he was in office or did you hear Hunter say that he was setting up a meeting with his dad with them (CEFC) while dad was still in office?” an FBI agent asked Walker.
“Yeah,” Walker responded. After this admission, the investigators inexplicably changed course and did not follow up on what Walker had just told them.

Walker’s account matches statements another business partner in the CEFC business deal, Tony Bobulinski, gave the FBI indicating the CEFC business relationship was hatched in 2015-16 but the monies paid from China were delayed until 2017. Bobulinski said he learned of that timeline as a result of a spring 2017 meeting in Miami with key players in the deal.
“The work conducted by CEFC, GILLIAR, WALKER, HUNTER BIDEN, JAMES BIDEN and YE over the preceding two years was discussed in detail at the Miami meeting,” the FBI quoted Bobulinski as saying. “In particular, CEFC was closing significant investment deals in Poland, Kazakhstan, Romania, Oman, and the Middle East during this period of time. CEFC had used its relationship with HUNTER BIDEN and JAMES BIDEN – and the influence attached to the BIDEN name – to advance CEFC’s interests abroad."
“HUNTER BIDEN and JAMES BIDEN did not receive any monetary compensation for their assistance in these projects,” the FBI interview report added. “HUNTER BIDEN and JAMES BIDEN did not receive any compensation because JOSEPH BIDEN was still VPOTUS during this time period. There was a concern it would be improper for payments to be made to HUNTER BIDEN and JAMES BIDEN by CEFC due to its close affiliation with the Chinese government. HUNTER BIDEN and JAMES BIDEN both wanted to be compensated for the assistance they had provided to CEFC’s ventures; in particular, they believed CEFC owed them money for the benefits that accrued to CEFC through its use of the BIDEN family name to advance their business dealings.”

Just the News has learned that Bobulinski wasn’t at the Miami meeting but was told about the discussions from the participants, who were courting him to be the venture’s CEO.
In their most recent testimony to the House Ways and Means Committee, Shapley and fellow IRS whistleblower Joseph Ziegler said they believed the timing of the millions of funds from a CEFC-affiliated company known as State Energy HK Limited was significant and potentially showed Joe Biden’s involvement. But the whistleblower added that the investigative team was prevented by federal prosecutors from following such leads.
“So the money that comes in from State Energy HK March of 2017, the timing of that is so significant, I think, looking back at everything that it makes sense that maybe there was some sort of agreement there that they weren’t going to pay it while -- pay that money while the former Vice President was in office,” Ziegler testified.

Text messages obtained by the FBI between Gilliar and Bobulinski show the two businessman began discussing a deal between CEFC and a prominent political family in late 2015.
On Dec. 24, 2015, Gilliar sent a text to Bobulinski explaining his plan for a deal that would bring together CEFC and the Biden family. “There will be a deal between one of the most prominent families from US and them constructed by me, I think this will then be a great addition to their portfolios as it will give them a profile base in NYC then la ect,” Gilliar wrote, according to the text obtained and authenticated by Just the News.

Bobulinski told the FBI in his interview for the Hunter Biden tax case that he later learned that the prominent American family was the family of Joe Biden and that Hunter Biden and his uncle, James Biden, would be “active participants” in the deal, according to the memo of the FBI interview.
Emails obtained from Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop confirm the overtures from CEFC in fact began in the fall of 2015 and continued throughout 2016, during his father’s last year in office as Vice President.
The first overtures in October 2015 from CEFC came to Hunter Biden by way of Scott Oh, who sent him a proposal to introduce the younger Biden to the Chinese company. In the email, Oh describes the China Energy Fund Committee (CEFC) as “an impressive group of Chinese business leaders” who had close connections with Chinese President Xi Jinping worked to advance China’s “national industrial interests.” Hunter Biden’s secretary identified Oh as the father of a classmate of Hunter’s daughter Finnegan.
“CEFC China is very interested in exploring humanitarian initiatives of mutual interest to the World Food program USA and discussing investment opportunities with Burnham,” Oh wrote in the proposal to Hunter Biden. At the time, Hunter Biden served as the Chairman of the World Food Program USA’s board. Burnham is an asset management firm with which Hunter Biden inked a previous $5 million deal with the Chinese firm Harvest Global.
“Topics for discussion would include a donation to the WFP, establishment of a joint humanitarian fund, and extending invitations for the B's to speak in China, etc.,” Oh explained. In addition to donations and work with Hunter Biden’s philanthropic organization, CEFC also appeared interested in bringing members of the Biden family to speak to Chinese audiences.

Hunter Biden previously used WFP events to facilitate meetings between his father and his business partners, according to evidence gathered by Congress, from Hunter Biden’s laptop, and reported last year by Just the News. These included an April 2014 and an April 2015 meeting at the Washington, D.C. restaurant Cafe Milano, where Kazakhstani businessman Kenes Rakishev, Elena Baturina who is the widow of Russian oligarch, and a Burisma Holdings official all met with then-Vice President Biden.
According to another email from the laptop, Hunter Biden scheduled a meeting with Scott Oh and Chairman Ye Jianming of CEFC on December 7, 2015 to discuss Oh’s proposals.
Two months later, on Dec. 1, another Hunter Biden associate reached out to Eric Schwerin to pass a message to the younger Biden. Vuk Jeremic, the former Serbian foreign minister, President of the U.N. Assembly and acquaintance of Hunter Biden wanted to invite the Vice President’s son to a private dinner he was hosting in Washington, D.C. with Chairman Ye Jianming, the Chairman of CEFC. Jeremic also coincidentally served on the advisory board of CEFC, according to emails from the laptop.
“On Sunday, December 6th, I will have a private dinner in DC with an old friend from China - Ye Jiemaing [sic] - one of the 10 wealthiest Chinese businessmen,” Jeremic wrote.
“I would like to invite Hunter to join me at this private dinner (small dinner - this is not an event of any kind). I am confident that many interesting projects may come out of that in the future,” Jeremic continued, dangling the prospect of future business deals.
“It is interesting that you raised the CEFC Chairman. We actually were approached by an acquaintance of Hunter’s about setting up a meeting for Hunter with the same gentleman for next week as well,” Schwerin wrote back.
Hunter Biden was unable to attend Jeremic’s dinner, however, according to another email from the laptop, he scheduled a meeting with Scott Oh and Chairman Ye Jianming on December 7, 2015 to discuss Oh’s proposals.

Evidence from the laptop indicates that Hunter Biden began connected CEFC with business opportunities as early as February 2016, while his father was still vice president.
In February of 2016, Hunter Biden sent a note about a potential investment opportunity for CEFC to Rob Walker. “Hey- buddy- take a look at this and fed to James. We talked about presenting this as one investment opportunity for CEFC in U.S.,” Hunter Biden wrote. He attached a document entitled “Alevo Investor Presentation,” according to the email obtained from the laptop.

Later the same month, Hunter Biden was copied on an email from James Gilliar to a representative from Bernhard Capital outlining his plans to present a proposal to the CEFC board in Beijing for a potential deal involving Westinghouse.
“Good to see you a couple of weeks ago, further to our discussions we have prepared a deck for my visit to CEFC board on Monday in Beijing, It has been made clear to me that CEFC wish to engage in further business relations with our group and we will present a few projects to them,” Gilliar wrote.
“I attach the decks and a covering letter that lay out the principals as I see of a Westinghouse play, we have been a little presumptuous that you wish to be included, but we hope so ?,” he continued.
“P.S Im sure H can give you the heads up on the play if you need more details,” Gilliar concluded, showing Hunter Biden’s central role.

By July of 2016, Eric Schwerin sent Hunter Biden a draft document entitled “RSP-CEFC.” This document is not accessible on Hunter Biden’s laptop and is a potential avenue for the House’s impeachment probe into President Biden. Comer told the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show on Thursday that the text of this agreement is "absolutely" a piece of evidence that his committee plans to track down in the newly established impeachment inquiry.
The Oversight Committee was scheduled to depose Hunter Biden this week, however, the first son refused to show up and delivered a statement where he asserted that “My father was not financially involved in my business.” Hunter Biden also announced that he would “make sure that the House committee's illegitimate investigations of my family do not proceed on distortions, manipulated evidence and lies.”
House Republicans have indicated that they will move forward with contempt proceedings in order to acquire Hunter Biden’s testimony.

A venture capital firm paid Hunter Biden lucrative sums of money after giving him an ownership stake in exchange for introducing his Chinese and Indian contacts, his federal tax indictment in California shows.
The venture capital firm, founded by a Hunter Biden business associate, gave Hunter Biden equity for introducing him to contacts in China and India and later sent him six figure payments, according to the indictment.
READ THE INDICTMENT:

“‘Global’ was a venture capital firm founded and operated by a ‘Trial Attorney.’ The Defendant and Business Associate 4 received equity in Global in exchange for introducing Trial Attorney to their contacts in China and India. On or about March 21, 2019, the Defendant received a distribution of approximately $619,000 from Global via Skaneateles,” the indictment reads.

Skaneateles was a business partnership between Hunter Biden and another business associate, with Hunter Biden owning 75% of the company. Biden hauled in a separate payment of $666,572 from the partnership in September 2017, the indictment says.
Hunter Biden’s former accountant and business associate Eric Schwerin was the business partner who held a minority ownership stake in Skaneateles, according to emails on Hunter’s abandoned laptop archive. The “Global” fund appears to be Eudora Global, an investment vehicle founded by Hunter Biden’s former business associate Jeff Cooper, the emails show.

Hunter Biden, son of US President Joe Biden, leaves the J. Caleb Boggs Federal Building in Wilmington, Delaware, on July 26, 2023. Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty to minor tax offenses on July 26, as a deal with federal prosecutors fell apart in a Delaware court. The surprise reversal of Biden’s agreement last month to settle the charges came after Judge Maryellen Noreika raised questions about the complicated deal that would also settle a separate gun charge against the president’s son, US media reported. (Photo by RYAN COLLERD / AFP) (Photo by RYAN COLLERD/AFP via Getty Images)
Schwerin laid out the Skaneateles arrangement and their Eudora ownership stake in a March 2019 email laying out the value of Skaneateles’ assets.
“If you look at the entities remaining in Skaneateles that I giving up my 25% of there is significant value there,” Schwerin told Hunter Biden’s then-lawyer George Mesires.
“But as a reminder, Hunter and I received our shares of Eudora as sweat equity for our shares of Radix. Radix was established partially based on my personal relationship with Xiaoying Zeng who became a partner and manager of their business in China,” Schwerin added.
Radix Global Solutions was an international consulting firm that assisted clients with expanding internationally. The firm’s website is now defunct.
Radix Chief Strategy Officer Gregory Mefford became a partner at Eudora Global, and his bio on Eudora’s archived website touted Mefford’s expansion of Radix into India and China. The archived page lists Hunter Biden as a partner at Eudora and Cooper as the founder of Eudora Global and Radix Global.
Schwerin suggested to Biden and then-business associate Devon Archer in 2010 they meet with Xiaoying and an Indian business associate for a potential fund Cooper proposed to invest in companies seeking to expand into China and India. His proposal involved Eudora and Rosemont Seneca Partners, the investment firm Archer and Biden co-founded.

“Jeff Cooper called me today and wanted to talk about putting together a potential $100m fund which would be used to invest in companies looking to expand into China and India,” Schwerin emailed his business partners.
“I think he has a lead on some small amounts of capital and interest from some people in China and India (Xiaoying and Ravi would help out), but it would require our help raising money for it,” he added.
“Ravi” appears to refer to Ravi Kini, an Indian contact and friend who Schwerin, Biden and business associate Rob Walker hoped to meet with in Washington, D.C., a couple months after Schwerin suggested contacting him, emails show.
Walker appeared to put Kini on a guest list for his wife Betsy Walker’s birthday party at a bowling alley in Bethesda, Maryland, in November 2010, around the time they hoped to meet with Kini, emails indicate.
Rob Walker was a central figure in Hunter Biden’s business dealings with Chinese firm CEFC and told the FBI in December 2020 Joe Biden met with CEFC associates after his vice presidency, according to a transcript of the interview.
The House Oversight Committee subpoenaed Walker in November to have him appear for a closed-door deposition as part of the impeachment inquiry into President Biden’s alleged role in his son’s foreign business enterprise. The Biden family and its business associates hauled in more than $24 million from foreign sources, according to a House GOP memo released in September.
House Republicans are set to issue new subpoenas for Hunter Biden to appear for a closed-door deposition to advance the impeachment inquiry.
CEFC sent Walker $3 million in March 2017 through its State Energy HK account and roughly $1 million of the funds went to Biden family accounts, bank records show.
Hunter Biden is facing nine federal tax charges in California tied to his alleged failure to pay over $1 million in taxes during the 2016-19 tax years, the indictment states.
The California indictment confirms the State Energy HK payments and lays out the income Hunter Biden received from Hudson West III, his business entity with CEFC officials. In total, Biden made over $7 million total gross income between 2016 and October 2020, according to the indictment.
Hunter Biden’s defense attorney, Abbe Lowell, attributed the charges to political pressure and Hunter Biden’s last name in a statement following the indictment. Lowell did not respond to a request for comment.

Hunter’s China Work Began In 2015 Immediately After VP Biden’s Christmas Party, Bobulinsky Testifies

FEBRUARY 18, 2024

Link: https://www.yourdestinationnow.com/2024/02/hunters-china-work-began-in-2015.html/

A decorated military veteran who was in business with Hunter Biden told Congress that contrary to assertions by Democrats, the work with a Communist Party of China-linked company began while Joe Biden was in power, not immediately after, according to a transcript of his testimony released Friday.
Tony Bobulinski told members of Congress in the impeachment inquiry of Joe Biden that soon after he became CEO of a venture in early 2017 involving Chinese firm CEFC, Hunter screamed angrily that the firm owed him $20 million for previous work, which would have occurred while Joe Biden was vice president.

Democrats have argued that “work was once Joe Biden was a private citizen,” Bobulinski said, but “that’s a lie.”
He said that a third investor, James Gilliar, revealed an arrangement between the Biden family and the Chinese company in a message on December 24, 2015, immediately after he was with Joe Biden at the then-vice president’s Christmas party. “There will be a deal between one of the most prominent families from US and them constructed by me [sic], I think this will then be a great addition to their portfolios,” the message said.
Bobulinski said he immediately knew which family Gilliar was talking about because Gilliar was “in D.C. to attend the Vice President’s Christmas party in December 2015. So I could just generally put the pieces of the puzzle together, and I was operating under the impression that he was talking about the Biden family.”
Emails show that Gilliar floated a 20% stake for Hunter, 10% for Joe Biden’s brother Jim, and 10% “held by H for the big guy,” referring to Joe. When the deal was finalized, Jim’s portion had risen to 20%, with no mention of Joe. It made little sense for Jim to be receiving such a large cut of what was expected to be a multi-billion dollar business given that Bobulinski was doing all the work, he said.
The Chinese were to provide $10 million in start-up cash used to hire bankers who would then identify investment opportunities to make money, he said. But Hunter viewed the start-up cash as a “piggy bank” to immediately take out of for himself.
He said that Gilliar and the Bidens were secretive about their history with CEFC, but it soon became clear that it did not begin with Bobulinski’s involvement in 2017 when they began arguing about a $20 million that was owed to them, a sum that could not be related to the 2017 $10 million deal.
“Hunter and I were directly across from Director Zang and Zhao, and Hunter starts — I don’t mean just raising his voice — just yelling at Director Zang, ‘you owe my family money. Why haven’t you paid the $20 million we’ve discussed? When is it coming?’” Bobulinski testified under oath. “What’s he talking about when he says ‘we have been shorted’? He’s talking about the fact that they were expected to get paid $20 million by CEFC for the work they had done previously … this started back in 2015. Numerous people — Rob Walker stated it himself,” he said, referring to a fourth investor.
Messages also showed that their Chinese business partner would meet with Vladimir Putin if he could get approval from Chinese President Xi. Gilliar wrote in a message that Hunter was only useful for his last name and the signal it sent to the Chinese, saying “in brand he’s imperative, but right now he’s not essential for adding input to business.”
Bobulinski and Hunter met with Joe Biden in a meeting that had no reason to occur if it was not about the CEFC work, Bobulinski testified. Hunter said “‘Hey, Dad, you know, this is Tony, who I, you know, told you about, just told you about, and helping us with, you know, the business we’re working on with the Chinese,’” he said.
A dispute occurred when the Bidens wanted equal voting shares that would allow them to override Bobulinski, while Bobulinski thought as CEO he should have more weight. Hunter messaged that his father had blocked the idea of diluting the Bidens’ voting shares, saying “my chairman gave an emphatic no.”
Joe Biden also met with CEFC chairman Ye Jianming, and joined numerous business calls. Bobunksi said that although they did not discuss business in detail, in the world of high finance, such displays of power are part and parcel of business development, with top operators routinely shaking hands at a meeting and then leaving, with their appearance serving to show that the lower-level operators have the backing of the powerful person.
The Bidens later cut Bobulinski out of the deal by copying documents he had made and creating a side deal, which entailed submitting fraudulent documents to a bank, Bobulinski said.
Hunter “took proprietary information from Oneida Holdings and SinoHawk and stole that information and reproduced it. So they took the SinoHawk holding — it’s called fraud — same exact serial numbers in the lower left-hand corner. That should put every lawyer’s mouth on the floor that’s in here,” Bobulinski said.
Around that time, Hunter told the Chinese that Joe Biden was demanding that the Chinese pay Hunter directly. “I am sitting here with my father and we would like to understand why the commitment made has not been fulfilled,” he wrote. “I will make certain that between the man sitting next to me and every person he knows and my ability to forever hold a grudge that you will regret not following my direction. I am sitting here waiting for the call with my father.”
Bobulinski said that as Donald Trump was impeached for exploring whether Joe Biden was involved in unsavory international deals, and Joe Biden angrily said he never discussed business with his son, Bobulinski, a former naval officer with the highest security clearance, wondered with the other business partners whether they had a duty to set the record straight.
A diplomat named Lincoln Bloomfield, who served as Assistant Secretary of State under George W. Bush, was dispatched to convince the partners to stay quiet before the election, Bobulinski alleged for the first time. “James and Rob Walker introduced him to me in October 2020, with the interest of him sort of coaching me and the other parties involved through not coming forward and what it would mean.”
Bloomfield plays in a band with now-Secretary of State Tony Blinken, and immediately after his alleged effort, a letter from 51 intelligence operatives appeared relying on their credentials to suggest, falsely, that any discussion of Hunter’s business dealings was Russian information, he said.
“That letter wasn’t instigated because of the laptop. That letter was instigated because they knew that I was coming out public on Monday, because I had that discussion with Rob Walker,” he said.
Bloomfield did not return a request for comment.
Bobulinski said before the election, he told his story in the Wall Street Journal, but the article quoted Gilliar saying, “I would like to clear up any speculation that former Vice President Biden was involved with the 2017 discussions about our potential business structure. I am unaware of any involvement at anytime of the former Vice President.” Bobulinski said, however, that he “had numerous discussions with him, and they were of the impression that Joe Biden was going to win the election. And they were concerned that, if the truth came out about this, that it could alter the election. And I believe it did.”
Walker testified to Congress in January that no one responded to the “10% held by H for the big guy” email, but Bobulinski said “Hunter responded to it numerous times. He was aware of the contents. He was arguing over the contents of the email, and not once did anybody else that was on the email chain go, guys, “Who is the ‘big guy’ that we’re talking about?”
Walker also testified that he did not know who the “big guy” was and that Joe Biden was not involved, even though messages show Walker writing that when Hunter “said his chairman he was talking about his dad and I think your dismissal of it maybe offended him a bit, but you didn’t know what he was talking about.”
Walker told the congressmen he was just trying to diffuse tension and that they would need to ask Gilliar who the big guy was.
Bobulinski said “I met Joe Biden face-to-face. These guys were talking about having Joe Biden come to New York and sit face-to-face with Chairman Ye while we were formalizing this deal. And for every one of these guys to now have amnesia or, like, you know, claim that, ‘Oh, Hunter wasn’t really talking about his father,’ is just absurd. The American people deserve the truth.”
Bobulinski also said he met with Gabriel Popoviciu, an oligarch accused of corruption in Romania, who had been paying Walker and Gilliar while Joe Biden was tasked with dealing with Romanian corruption as part of his vice president portfolio. “When I met with Gabriel Popoviciu, he was very vocal about the fact that he had stopped paying Robinson Walker when Joe Biden left the White House, and the reason why he had stopped paying them — and the reason was because he viewed that he no longer had the power or the leverage of the Biden family to — for what he was dealing with in Romania. And he actually asked me, did I know any — did I have any insight on how he potentially could get relationships at the Trump side of the ledger,” Bobulinski said. He said that Gilliar told him that the contract with Popovicio “outlined that, if, in fact, they were successful in getting Gabriel off in Romania, that they stood to make potentially millions or tens of millions of dollars.”
During the testimony, Democrats focused on attempting to discredit Bobulinski for allegedly cooperating with Republicans to get his story out. But Bobulinski, who previously donated to Democrats and did highly technical work for the Navy Nuclear Power Training Command, said he was looking for any outlet with a wide audience to tell a story that was otherwise being suppressed.
When Bobulinski mentioned that he had evidence including recorded calls, Democrats asked where he recorded them, seemingly in an attempt to get him to admit whether he broke the law by recording in a state where that is illegal. (He said he was in a state where it was legal.)
Rep. James Comer, the Republican chairman of the Oversight Committee, apologized to Bobulinski.
“I’ve never seen that display of pathetic behavior in a deposition before,” Comer said. “I apologize for their behavior.”
