SO SOLID Crew lyrics about gun violence were read at the murder trial of rap star Megaman yesterday.

Megaman, real name Dwayne Vincent, wrote and sang lines such as: "I burst you until the shells be running out."

The Old Bailey has heard how Vincent, 26, ordered an associate to shoot a rival with the words, "Burst him".

Carl Morgan, 24, allegedly fired three bullets into Colin Scarlett, also 24, in the streets of Tooting, after being humiliated in a fight.

Detective Chief Inspector Jeff Brown looked into the lyrics of the band to find gun references.

He told the jury several of the songs on their two albums were credited to Megaman as writer or performer.

One named Ride With Us included the lyrics: "Telling you niggas, talking about you wanna blaze me.

"

It's so easy to pull out your gat, rat-a-tat-tat, lay three niggas on their back."

In their hit 21 Seconds Megaman raps: "Going by in a blacked out TT, Megaman can bring two gats easy."

A track from their second album reads: "Everybody's getting shot, everybody's running around on the block with a Glock cocked, and now the streets are hot."

But George Carter-Stephenson, defending Megaman, said much was down to the interpretation of the lyrics.

He added: "This is from a song about unity and turning legit."

Mr Carter-Stephenson accused DCI Brown of looking at the "bad bits" without putting them in context.

He read out another section: "What's wrong with you niggas, what's wrong with you all.

"It's about time that we all flip the script, let's stick together, all turn legit."

Jurors have heard that Mr Scarlett died in hospital on November
6 la
st year.

It is claimed Morgan had been humiliated by Mr Scarlett, who was going out with his exgirlfriend and mother-of-two Elisha McFarlane.

Vincent is said to have got involved because of his
"celebrity status".

Morgan has boasted being friends with most of the members of So Solid Crew and appeared in two of their videos.

Vincent, of Gledstanes Road, Barons Court, and Morgan, of Badric Court, Yelverton Road, Battersea, both deny murder.

The trial continues.

Rap producer jailed for shooting

A former producer of the rap group So Solid Crew has been jailed for at least 30 years for murdering a love rival.
Earlier this month a jury found Carl Morgan, 24, of Battersea, south London, guilty of shooting Colin Scarlett in Tooting, south London, last year.

They failed to reach a verdict on the same charge faced by rapper Megaman, real name Dwayne Vincent, who will face a ret

rial next March.

The judge said the life sentence showed gun crime would not be tolerated.

"The message must be all one way - that it will not b
e tolerated.

Passing sentence, the Common Serjeant of London, Judge Brian Barker, told Morgan: "Gun use is the scourge of our streets and causes misery and distress.

"You expected eye witnesses would be cowed into silence and that ploy very nearly succeeded."

Mr Scarlett was described as the partner of Morgan's ex-girlfriend.

He had beaten up the killer earlier that day and the court was told Morgan had gone after Mr Scarlett with a gun to get revenge.

Mr Scarlett's partner is the mother of two of Morgan's children.

It was alleged that Mr Vincent, of Barons Court, west London, encouraged his friend to pull the trigger, which he denied.

Morgan appeared in the band's video for the track 21 Seconds.
