Joe Biden Gets First Challenger for 2024 Democratic Nomination​

As speculation about who will run for president in 2024 continues to swirl, one man is already announcing his bid as the first Democratic candidate to mount a challenge against President Joe Biden.
On Monday, political activist Jerome Segal announced his decision to pursue the nomination from the Democratic Party, with a campaign focused on job security and peace in the Middle East.
Segal's announcement came less than a week after he conceded the Democratic gubernatorial primary in Maryland. He ran in a crowded primary, losing to Oprah-backed Wes Moore, who was declared the winner late Friday and will go on to run against Trump-backed Dan Cox in the general election. Segal garnered the second-fewest votes among the 10 Democratic candidates, receiving less than 1 percent of the vote.
Segal's decision to run for president marks his fourth political campaign. The 78-year-old first challenged Ben Cardin in Maryland's 2018 Senate primary. He also ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020.

"I was planning to delay the announcement of my candidacy until after the mid-term elections," Segal said in a Monday statement. "My decision to go public right now was triggered by Joe Biden's embarrassing trip to the Middle East."
Segal, who is the founder of the socialist Bread and Roses party, said he was particularly upset by Biden's comments from earlier this month, during which the president said the ground was "not ripe" to restart Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.
In his announcement, Segal also slammed Biden for his decision "to fist bump a psychopathic killer," referring to the president's interaction with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Biden drew widespread criticism for fist bumping Saudi Arabia's de facto leader just a few years after he had vowed to make bin Salman a "pariah" in connection to the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
Biden, who is a year older than Segal, has said multiple times that he will seek reelection, even in the face of concerns that he would be too old to serve a second term. Biden is the oldest president in U.S. history.
Biden's GOP rival, former President Donald Trump, has yet to announce his plans to run for another White House term but has repeatedly teased that he's mounting a 2024 bid.
Earlier this month, Trump told New York magazine that he had already made his decision on the next presidential election, and the only question left was when he would go public with his decision.
Other politicians who have been floated as possibly running against Biden in the Democratic primary include: Vice President Kamala Harris, Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, California Governor Gavin Newsom, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Senators Bernie Sanders and Amy Klobuchar. None of them have confirmed that they will run for the presidency in 2024.

Harvey Weinstein’s defense lawyers in Monday’s opening statement called Gavin Newsom’s wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, a “bimbo” and a “Hollywood wannabe” after she accused the disgraced producer of rape.

She claims Weinstein raped her in a Los Angeles hotel room in 2005 when she was an actor.
Weinstein’s lawyers ripped Jennifer Siebel Newsom as they argued she consented to every sexual interaction with Weinstein.
“Look at my client,” attorney Mark Werksman said, pointing to Weinstein, according to Variety. “He’s not Brad Pitt or George Clooney. Do you think these beautiful women had sex with him because he’s hot? No, it’s because he’s powerful.”

Weinstein’s lawyer dropped the hammer on Gavin Newsom’s wife when he rightly pointed out that had she not married a powerful politician, she would be just another “bimbo” who slept with Weinstein.
“She’d be just another bimbo who slept with Harvey Weinstein to get ahead,” Werksman argued to the courtroom.

Weinstein’s attorney spent much of his time during opening statements focusing on Jane Doe #4, who was revealed to be Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the actress and director who is married to California Governor Gavin Newsom, who accused Weinstein of raping her in a hotel room in 2005. She has become a leading voice against sexual harassment and assault in recent years.
“She’s made herself a prominent figure of the #MeToo movement,” Werksman said, listing her current accolades and status as the First Partner of California. But back in the early 2000s when Siebel Newsom was an aspiring actress and filmmaker, Weinstein’s attorney says she was a “Hollywood wannabe.”
Werksman told the jury that during the alleged rape in 2005, Siebel Newsom says she faked an orgasm to end the assault quickly. Weinstein’s attorney said there is no more “enthusiastic signal of consent” than “yes, yes, yes” — which is why, he said, “Mr. Weinstein believed she consented.”
Weinstein’s attorney also noted that Weinstein was a big donor to the Democratic Party, and contributed money to Gavin Newsom throughout the years. He noted that in 2007, Weinstein had the couple as guests to one of his parties, during the time when Newsom was the mayor of San Francisco. “She brought her husband to meet and party with her rapist. Who does that?” Werksman said. “He took money from his wife’s rapist for his political campaigns.”

California Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom mocked the rhetoric used by parents protesting against LGBT issues being implemented in their children’s curriculum, calling it “profoundly ignorant.”
Newsom spoke in Sacramento County to “highlight California’s family agenda centered around efforts to enrich and empower kids and parents in schools.”

At the event, a reporter pointed out, “There was a rally this morning at the capitol. They [parents] said they won’t have any rights with the number of bills” California was implementing. She added, “They feel like certain ideologies are being shoved down their children’s [throats] and they want to be able to control what their children are learning at school.”
“The LCAP process requires parental engagement,” Newsom argued, then spoke of Temecula, California, saying, “1,300 families over a year were engaged in development of that curriculum. That’s parental engagement by definition. 98.8 percent — forgive me for being precise, but I think one has to be precise — 99 percent supported or were simply agnostic. That’s parental — I don’t know what they’re referring to.”
“I think one has a responsibility to what specifically are you referring to,” he declared. “Is it the notion that if you reference someone being gay, that somehow that is sexualizing our kids? Is that the case with straight people as well. I mean, if you’re straight, is that sexualizing?”
Newsom then assumed others agreed with his viewpoint. “I mean, it’s rather perverse that I offer that as a rhetorical question because you go, ‘Of course not,’” he said.
Then Newsom insulted the coalition of parental rights activists, saying, “I don’t know what it is they are asserting. It’s Orwellian, doublespeak, or it’s just so profoundly ignorant that they’ve been ginned up by outside agitators, which I think perhaps is a combination of this. And I’m deeply empathetic because I watch some of these poor parents and they’ve been so misled by these organized groups.”
Among other bills, the parental rights groups criticized AB 1078, which would mandate “diversity” curriculum and make it more difficult for school boards to ban inappropriate books in schools. The activists also called for parental notification if children seek to alter their pronouns or name at school.

Visit to China comes amid speculation the California Democrat is running a shadow presidential campaign for 2024 as fears among the party grow over Joe Biden's mental and physical decline.

Democrat California Governor Gavin Newsom had a surprise meeting with China’s dictator Xi Jinping during a visit to Beijing on Wednesday to push the left’s climate agenda.

The far-left governor and top CCP officials heaped praise on each other during Newsom’s week-long tour of China, sharing in the belief that his visit marks a “positive” step towards “renewing” U.S.-China relations.

“I’m here in expectation, as you suggest, of turning the page, of renewing our friendship and reengaging (on) foundational and fundamental issues that will determine our collective faith in the future,” said Newsom, who’s the first governor to visit China since 2019.

California and China are two of the world’s largest economies. The reality is, we cannot solve the climate crisis without working together.

Xi likewise had warm remarks for Newsom: “I hope your visit will enhance mutual understanding between the two sides and play a positive role in expanding cooperation between China and California and promoting the healthy and stable development of Sino-U.S. relations.”

Newsom also highlighted his allegiance to the CCP’s One-China policy that expressly recognizes the CCP as the ruling government of China, including Taiwan.

“I expressed my support for the One-China policy…as well as our desire not to see independence [of Taiwan],” Newsom said.

Newsom also met with Vice President Han Zheng, who referred to the Democrat as an “old friend.” Han is a past member of the Politburo Standing Committee, an elite group of leaders within the Chinese Communist Party.

“The China-U.S. relationship is the most important bilateral relationship in the world, and the sub-national cooperation is an indispensable part to facilitate the sound and steady growth of China-U.S. relations,” Han said. “I’m sure your weeklong trip will inject positive energy to the development of the China-U.S. relationship.”

Wang Yi, China’s foreign affairs chief, brushed off criticism surrounding Newsom’s visit.

“But I think time and facts will certainly prove that your visit to China is in line with California people’s wishes and in line with the American people’s interests and the expectations of the global society,” he said.

Newsom’s surprise visit comes amid speculation the governor is running a shadow presidential campaign as 80-year-old Joe Biden sinks in the polls over his increasingly obvious cognitive and physical decline.

“Newsom is currently in China, running a shadow campaign for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination, just in case President Biden succumbs to the realities of his age and waning mental capacity,” wrote former congressional staffer Derek Hunter in The Hill.

“The possibility that Biden will drop out this cycle is remote. But whether Biden is gone next year or in 2028, Democrats have Newsom waiting in the wings.”

Hunter went on to point out that Newsom’s visit to China is more symbolic than substantive and comes ahead of another planned visit to Israel.

“In China, Newsom is signing meaningless, symbolic agreements on climate change with counterparts who probably do not intend to honor them. His trip is a minor propaganda win for the world’s biggest and most unrepentant carbon polluter,” Hunter wrote.

“China’s ruling Communist Party, after all, is already building more than 100 new coal-fired power plants, and each week it reportedly approves permits for two additional new ones. So Newsom’s trip to China is a perfect symbol of his and his state’s ardent commitment to pretend to do something about what he calls ‘the climate crisis.'”
