Twelve people, including 11 juveniles, were arrested after a 15-year-old boy was shot on Temple University's campus in North Philadelphia Sunday afternoon during a celebration for Eid al-Fitr, according to police.
Philadelphia police and Temple University police responded to the intersection of Broad Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue for a report of shots fired around 1 p.m. Philadelphia police said the 15-year-old was shot in the left arm and taken to Temple University Hospital by responding officers. The teen is in stable condition, police said.
In an Instagram post, Germantown Masjid leaders said some youth attending their event at the Liacouras Center were involved in an "incident" on Sunday. They're asking parents to contact the masjid "so we may sit down together to work towards reconciliation and a positive resolution," the post says.
Initial reports and video footage show that a group of juveniles were in the area for a festival when someone fired a gun, hitting another person, according to Temple Public Safety.
Earlier Sunday afternoon, Temple University shared a community alert on social media, asking the public to avoid the 1400 block of Cecil B. Moore Avenue due to a shooting. The university said in an alert shortly after 9:30 p.m. that police had cleared the area.
The area where Temple said the shooting happened is near Temple's Morgan Hall North and South and Temple's Liacouras Center.
