Katt Williams arrested on gun charge at LAX

LOS ANGELES – Comedian Katt Williams was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport after a stolen gun was found in his briefcase, airport police said.

Williams, 35, was arrested shortly after 4:30 p.m. Monday after he was stopped at a security checkpoint at Terminal 5, airport police Officer Belinda Nettles said.

“An unknown object popped up on the X-ray monitor,” and a search of his briefcase turned up an unloaded gun that was found to have been reported stolen, Nettles said.

Williams was taken to a city police station and booked under the name Micah S. Katt Williams for investigation of illegally possessing a firearm, Nettles said.

A call to his agent, Chris Smith, was not immediately returned Tuesday.

Williams, who was born in Cincinnati, won Cedric the Entertainer's Anheiser-Busch “Best Los Angeles Comics Award” in 2001, according to his Web site.

He also is an actor, perhaps best-known for the role of Money Mike in the 2002 movie “Friday After Next.” Williams has done several TV comedy specials and has collaborated on musical projects with Snoop Dogg and other well-known rappers.

(November 17, 2008) *South Carolina's The Item.com news site is reporting that comedian Katt Williams underwent a psychiatric evaluation over the weekend at the insistence of his family members.

After a string of erratic behavior over the past several weeks, including a Nov. 4 no-show on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" and an arrest in New York on weapons charges, the comic had run-ins with both city and county law enforcement in Sumter – resulting in an alleged mental evaluation for a possible hospital commitment, at the urging of local fambly members, the Web site reported.

Sumter Police Department Maj. Perry Herod said officers responded to a suspicious behavior call from the Mount Vernon Inn Friday at 8:30 a.m. in reference to Williams, 35. He "was trying to buy a room while dressed in a bathrobe and a towel wrapped around his head," said Sumter Police Chief Patty Patterson. After determining no criminal activity was taking place, officers left.

Attorney Garryl Deas said Williams then visited his office at 201 N. Main St. at around 9 a.m. asking for help. Deas said Williams told him he felt the police were "attempting to violate his rights." Williams also went on to talk about his entertainment career and revealed there were people who thought he was missing because he had failed to report to some engagements, Deas said. The actor said there were even rumors he had died in a plane crash.

Deas said Williams agreed to wait for him to return from a 9:30 a.m. scheduled court appearance. When Deas came back at 10:30 a.m., Williams was waiting for him, but his behavior had changed. "His demeanor was a little troubled," Deas said, adding the actor seemed "disoriented."

About that time, family or close friends of Williams arrived and tried to take him to the hospital for mental evaluation, Deas said. He said the family was seeking to have the actor committed. He was under the impression the family members were a teenaged daughter and the daughter's mother. Williams, however, was against the hospital visit.

"He just said that he doesn't trust anyone anymore," Deas said. Williams said he thought "everyone has turned against him. He wasn't really coherent."
Deas said the family was seeking an order to force him to be seen for a mental evaluation. Sumter County Sheriff Anthony Dennis said the call came in around noon and deputies arrived to transport Williams to the hospital. Though he was vocal in his desire not to go, Williams was not physically aggressive.

"Officers did talk with him, and then my understanding is he went on his own to Tuomey Hospital," said Sumter Police Department Maj. Perry Herod.

Meanwhile, Williams is scheduled to appear Nov. 20 at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas and on Dec. 31 in Detroit with comedian Steve Harvey. Williams has reportedly said the Dec. 31 gig will be his last stand-up show.

Following his encounter with the police, Williams then showed up at the office of Sumter attorney Garryl Deas.

The 'Pimp Chronicles' star came to inquire about the attorney's services, though Deas said he was not been hired to represent Williams.

During their initial exchange, Deas said Williams told him he felt the police were "attempting to violate his rights" and he was interested in retaining Deas' representation.

Williams also went on to talk about his entertainment career and revealed there were people who thought he was missing because he had failed to report to some engagements, Deas said.

The actor said there were even rumors he had perished in a plane crash, which Deas said was obviously not true.

ATLANTA (AP) - Comedian and rapper Katt Williams remained jailed in suburban Atlanta on Monday after police said they arrested the entertainer for breaking into a home.

Williams, who police say is 38, is charged with burglary and criminal trespassing, according to Coweta County Sheriff's Office Major James Yarbrough.

A deputy at the Coweta County Jail confirmed Williams was being held there and that a magistrate was expected to set bond at an arraignment Monday afternoon.

Yarbrough said the Sunday night incident happened at a home in Newnan, about 38 miles southwest of Atlanta. Yarbrough said the unidentified homeowner called police around 9 p.m. to report the comedian "gained entry by breaking into the home, and items were taken from the residence."

Yarbrough said jewelry was taken, but did not have further details.

Williams, whose real name is Micah S. Katt Williams, is known for his roles in the movies "Friday After Next" and "Norbit." His comedy DVD, "Katt Williams: Pimpadelic," was no. 8 in the nation for sales during the week of Oct. 30, according to Nielsen/VideoScan.

But lately the entertainer has gained as much attention for criminal troubles as for his quips.

He was briefly jailed last November after New York police who pull him over for driving without a license plate discovered three guns. Manhattan prosecutors dropped weapons charges in July after running into problems proving their case.

A judge sentenced Williams to three years' probation in 2006 after he pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count of carrying a concealed firearm. Authorities had arrested Williams on Nov. 6 at Los Angeles International Airport after finding a gun in his briefcase.

Williams lives in Woodland Hills, Calif.

Yarbrough said police believe the entertainer was in Georgia working on a film.

NEWNAN, Ga. -- Newnan police confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that famed comedian Katt Williams was questioned following a disturbance call at an area Walmart Friday.

News Chopper 2 flew over the Walmart on Bullsboro Road in Newnan as police used crime tape to section off part of the store’s parking lot, where a tractor-trailer that police said belonged to Williams was parked. Police said they obtained a warrant to search Williams’ truck.

Williams had an entourage of several people, who are also being questioned by authorities.

Police said two people, Shirley Williams and Tony Williams, were detained and charged with disorderly conduct, and a third person, Lilly James, was charged with possession of marijuana. Police said Shirley and Tony Williams are the mother and brother of Katt Williams' girlfriend, Yolanda. Police said the duo confronted Katt Williams and accused him of endangering the welfare of Yolanda. Yolanda denied it, police said.

Katt Williams was not arrested and was later released.

“This is a witch hunt. I’m getting to the point where I feel persecuted. This don’t make no sense. They keep acting like I’m a troublemaker. I been here for two months and ain’t been to a club yet," said Williams in an exclusive interview with Channel 2 Action News reporter Darren Lyn following the incident.

The comedian, whose real name is Micah Williams, was arrested in November and jailed in Coweta County on charges of burglary and criminal trespassing.

Williams is best known for his appearances on BET and HBO, including his HBO special "Katt Williams: Pimp Chronicles Pt. 1," which was shot in Atlanta.

Comedian Katt Williams faces battery and false imprisonment charges stemming from an alleged fight at a posh Midtown hotel.

Merion Powers, of Detroit, recorded audio of the alleged Nov. 12 incident on his cell phone, according to an affidavit obtained by the AJC. The warrants, issued Dec. 28, state that Williams punched Powers in the nose and had one of his bodyguards "detain" him in the diminutive comedian's Four Seasons suite.

Williams, already facing a burglary rap in Coweta County, is expected to turn himself in to Atlanta Police, said APD spokesman Eric Schwartz.

In an Atlanta Police incident report, Powers claims Williams, 38, invited him to the hotel to discuss a debt. "Mr. Williams was on audio recording stating that he did physically strike Mr. Powers once in the nose" and that Powers' nose "did show signs of swelling," the report said.

At a press conference following the alleged fight, Williams said he was asked to leave the 14th Street hotel after employees claimed he was causing a disturbance.

That incident came only days after Williams posted bond in Coweta County on one felony burglary count and a misdemeanor charge of criminal trespass. He was arrested after an employee at the Coweta estate where the comedian was staying called 911 to report a break-in at a guesthouse. The caller claimed that Williams stole jewelry and other personal items.

Williams denied the charges, calling the incident a "misunderstanding between me and two stupid detectives."

Less than one month later, Williams was arrested for allegedly carrying a shotgun into a Newnan Wal-Mart, though no charges were filed. He also avoided charges stemming from a Nov. 3 incident involving a 17-year-old boy who claimed that the comedian held him against his will at the same Coweta estate where the break-in allegedly occurred.

OAKLAND -- Comedian Katt Williams was released from custody Thursday morning, several hours after being arrested in connection with a fight the previous night, when a man said he was hit on the head with a bottle in downtown Oakland, police said.

Williams, in town for a Friday night appearance at the Oracle Arena, was never booked into jail and was released after questioning about 11 a.m. Police believe the fight was a possibly a case of "mutual combat" and there may be discrepancies in the account given by the man who was injured.

The 18-year-old Berkeley man told police he was hit in the head with a bottle and taken to a hospital after the fight, which happened about 8 p.m. in a tour vehicle parked at the Courtyard Marriott, 988 Broadway, police said.

Police were first called about a man bleeding from the head in the 900 block of Broadway. The man told police what had happened and police went looking for Williams. He was not in the vehicle but officers found him about a half-hour later near a nightclub in the 200 block of Washington Street. Police said he was cooperative when he was taken into custody.

Police were trying to determine the relationship between the man and Williams. The man who said he was hit with the bottle was not immediately named. Police said they were initially told the man was with some other people who may have been invited to the tour vehicle before the confrontation happened.

Williams' agent could not immediately be reached for comment.

Williams, 41, a comedian, actor and rapper, was sued earlier this month by an assistant who maintains he hit her in October and caused permanent injuries. The comic was recently involved in shoving match during a Nov. 1 standup performance in Denver, Colo., when he jumped offstage to confront a heckler.

OAKLAND, Calif. —

Just days after his arrest following a confrontation on his tour van, comedian Katt Williams’ show at Oakland’s Oracle Arena ended early Friday night in a profanity laced rant that had fans demanding their money back.

Williams was just 10 minutes into his show when he began a joke-less rant that ended with him challenging a heckler to a fight and his own security team removing him from the stage.

Tickets for the event ranged in price from $33 to $94 plus service fees. Williams abrupt departure left fans demanding refunds.

"It was the weirdest thing I've ever seen in my life," Erick Lucero, who was working on the arena floor as a security guard, told the San Jose Mercury News.

The meltdown came in the wake of an 18-year-old Berkeley man filing a lawsuit against Williams seeking unspecified damages for an incident in Oakland in which he alleges the comedian assaulted him.

Delvahn Mosley-Davis charges in his suit, filed in Alameda County Superior Court, that Williams, 41, punched him, hit him over the head with a bottle and pointed a gun at him.

Pamela Price, Mosley-Davis' attorney, said one of Williams' bodyguards also punched Mosley-Davis.

Price said the attack occurred in Williams' RV tour van in the parking lot of the Courtyard Marriott Hotel in the 900 block of Broadway about 8 p.m. Wednesday and alleged that after it was over Williams and the guard forced him out of the van into the street despite knowing that Mosley-Davis was injured and disoriented.

The attorney said Mosley-Davis suffered injuries to his head, neck, arms, torso and face and was taken to Highland Hospital in Oakland, where he was treated and released.

The suit says that in addition to his injuries, Mosley-Davis suffered "severe mental anguish and emotional distress."

Price said she's also seeking a court order to impound Williams' tour van before he leaves town to perform in Fresno on Saturday night because she thinks it contains blood evidence and the weapons she alleges that Williams used to "threaten and assault" Mosley-Davis.

Oakland police spokeswoman Johnna Watson said Williams was arrested and questioned after the incident but was later released and doesn't face any charges at this time. She said the incident is still under investigation.

Comedian and rapper Katt Williams is sued by his own fans for failing to put out a decent show and instigating a fight with his audience.




Katt Williams and show promoter Live Nation are facing a class lawsuit for allegedly failing to deliver a satisfying show to fans who wanted to see the comedian on his Oakland performance on November 16. The lawsuit, filed a day before Thanksgiving in Alameda County, CA, claims Williams' bizarre and aggressive behavior was the cause of the show's failure.

According to a report by TMZ, fan Brian Herline filed the lawsuit against Williams and his promoter on behalf of everyone who went to see the November 16 show only to go home disappointed and ripped off their money. In the lawsuit, fans claimed that they paid high-ticket prices to see Williams but the show was cut off abruptly after the rapper exhibited strange and uncontrollable aggressive behavior.

In documents presented to the court, it was explained that the show ended just after ten minutes, but not before the 39-year-old celebrity "confronted a heckler, took his clothes off, and attempted to fight at least three audience members."

The site added that the class suit is seeking unspecified damages for Williams' "non-performance" and that there have been no comments from the actor nor from his show promoters.

This is not the first time that Katt Williams got involved in some heated argument with his audience. Back in 2011, he was caught on video ranting about anti-Mexican ideas and only recently was arrested in Oakland for alleged battery.

Comedian Micah “Katt” Williams was arrested Sunday afternoon after he was involved in a fracas at a South Lake Union bar, Seattle police said.

Officers were called to the World Sports Grille near Ninth Avenue North and Westlake Avenue following a report of a dispute involving Williams and another patron at the bar, department spokesman Jonah Spagenthal-Lee said in a statement. Williams, a Los Angeles-based comedian who recently was parodied on “Saturday Night Live,” was scheduled to perform at the Paramount Thursday, Friday and Saturday, but missed his Thursday show.


“During the incident Williams exchanged words with patrons in the bar, brandished a pool cue at a bar manager and refused to leave the business,” Spagenthal-Lee said. “At one point during the altercation, Williams followed a family outside of the bar where, as the family got into their car, Williams flicked a cigarette through a car window at a woman, striking her just below her eye.

“Williams also threw a rock at the family’s car.”

Police said Williams struggled with officers as they tried to put him into a patrol car. Jail records show Micah Sierra Williams was booked into King County Jail at 6:42 p.m. Sunday for investigation of harassment, assault and obstructing police, and was being held late Sunday. He’s expected to have a Monday afternoon bail hearing.

The Sunday incident was his second involving Seattle police this week, according to officers.

“Following Williams’ Friday evening show, Williams was involved in an altercation with three fans,” Spagenthal-Lee said. “The fans claimed Williams had attacked them after they tried to take a photo with him after the show. However, Williams claimed the fans had forced their way into his dressing room, and denied assaulting anyone.”
