The woman fatally wounded Wednesday afternoon during an apparent attempted drug-related robbery is identified as Bethany Mercer, 22, of Forest Valley Drive.
Charged with criminal homicide is Dante Osbourne, 19, of 714 Due West Avenue.

Mercer was seated, pulled a gun and pointed it at the driver. The driver pushed the gun away and Osbourne shot Mercer. The bullet traveled through Me
rcer's forearm and into her abdomen. Her friends rushed her to Skyline Medical Center, where she died. Police were alerted to the shooting from the hospital and learned where it occurred from a witness. Officers went to the apartment complex and arrested Osbourne after witnesses pointed him out.
Detectives are working to identify the two women in the Red Doge Ram extended cab pickup truck with Mercer. They are deemed witnesses to the homicide. They left the hospital before police arrived. Anyone with information on their identities is urged to contact the North Precinct's Investigative Unit at 862-7903.
