(RNS) — Public hearings in the presidential impeachment inquiry began Wednesday (Nov. 13), as witnesses marched to a congressional office building to offer televised testimonies on whether President Donald Trump linked military aid for Ukraine with a promise to investigate one of his political opponents, former Vice President Joe Biden.

As readers following the saga may have already gleaned, there’s a disproportionate number of Jewish actors in this drama. At least one — Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, the former National Security Council director for European affairs — is scheduled to testify next week. (Vindman told congressional investigators last month that he heard Trump’s July phone call with the president of Ukraine and reported it to his superiors because he was concerned about a quid pro quo.)

Behind the scenes there are others, including former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s Ukrainian-American business associates Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman. (The two were allegedly involved in helping Trump remove Marie Yovanovitch as ambassador to Ukraine.) And then, of course, there’s Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, who was asked by Trump to investigate Biden in a July 25 phone conversation — the foundation for the impeachment inquiry. Parnas, Fruman and Zelensky are also Jewish.

Finally, Gordon Sondland, the U.S. ambassador to the European Union, is also Jewish, though unlike the others he was born in the United States to a couple that escaped the Holocaust.

Why so many? Scholars say it’s mostly a coincidence, and there’s certainly no connection between them, but there are a few intriguing historical notes that might shed light on this curious set of circumstances.

The population of Ukraine is overwhelmingly Christian; the vast majority — up to two-thirds — identify as Orthodox, according to the CIA’s World Factbook. A minority are Catholic. Jews comprise less than 1% of the population.

But here’s the interesting part: Many Ukrainian emigres to the United States — like a large number of emigres from the former Soviet Union — are Jewish.

In fact, Vindman, Parnas and Fruman were able to immigrate to the U.S. precisely because they are Jewish. In the late 1980s, as the Soviet Union was tottering and its republics began declaring their independence, Soviet leaders opened the doors to emigration. Ukraine declared independence in 1991.

For Jews it was especially easy to leave. Israel’s Law of Return gave Jews the right to Israeli citizenship. And the U.S. granted all Russian-speaking Jews refugee status.

Beginning in the late 1980s, as many as 1.8 million Russian-speaking Jews from across the former Soviet Union left. About 1 million went to Israel and as many as 500,000 to the United States. The remainder left for Canada, Germany and Australia.

“There are a lot more Ukrainian Jews living outside Ukraine than in Ukraine,” said David Fishman, professor of history at the Jewish Theological Seminary.

Anna Shternshis, a professor of Yiddish studies at the University of Toronto who studies Russian-Jewish history, said economic opportunity was the main reason for the Jewish exodus. Ukrainian Jews in particular suffered from discrimination in the workplace and in higher education. But perhaps the biggest reason, she said, could be summed up in one word: Chernobyl.

“Chernobyl and neighboring area had a large Jewish population,” Shternshis said. “When knowledge of Chernobyl began to spread, everyone wanted to leave as soon as possible.”

The 1987 nuclear disaster took place near the city of Pripyat about 110 miles north of Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital.

For these Jewish emigres who had grown up in the Communist regime where atheism was propagated and believers were harassed, Judaism was more of an ethnic identity.

“These were secular Jews,” said Simon Rabinovitch, professor of history at Northeastern University. “There was no alternative.”

That’s certainly true of Ukraine’s president, Zelensky. In fact, religion barely came up during his campaign.

“The fact that I am a Jew is about the 20th question among my characteristics,” Zelensky was quoted as saying.

There are an estimated 100,000 to 200,000 Jews left in Ukraine (out of a population of 44 million), said Fishman, who travels twice a year to Ukraine to do research and teach.

This combination of Oct. 9, 2019, photos provided by the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office shows booking photos of Lev Parnas, left, and Igor Fruman. Parnas and Fruman were arraigned Oct. 23, 2019, on charges they conspired to make illegal contributions to political committees supporting President Donald Trump and other Republicans. (Alexandria Sheriff’s Office via AP, File)

It’s certainly remarkable that a Jewish comedian should become president. What’s as remarkable is that until August, Ukraine’s prime minister, Volodymyr Groysman, was also Jewish. He resigned in a symbolic protest against Zelensky’s disbanding of Parliament.

Shternshis said there are a lot of theories about how Ukraine, a country previously known for its virulent anti-Semitism, could have so many high-powered Jews in government.

“There’s a narrative in Ukraine of shared suffering,” Shternshis said. “Ukrainians were persecuted by Soviets. Jews were persecuted by Soviets. Now when Soviets are gone, Ukrainians and Jews have nothing to worry about. I have a lot of questions about that narrative. But it exists.”

Fishman had another theory — one that makes the impeachment probe especially ironic, if the inquiry proves Trump tried to extort the Ukrainians to help his presidential campaign. He theorized that Ukrainians elected Zelensky because they wanted an outsider to root out the corrupt politicians who preceded him.

“Ukrainians were fed up with the political class and corruption,” Fishman said. “A fresh face and a charismatic personality offering change was very attractive to them. They hate the oligarchs more than the Jews.”

Genetic research showing that eastern European Jews do indeed originate from the historical region of Khazaria in Central Asia and not Palestine has been officially accepted, which Jim Wald discusses below. Curiously, a mere month before this news was released in 2014, the western-backed coup in Ukraine erupted. Just a coincidence? As our first author JC Collins observes, the war in Ukraine was intended to clear the Russians out of the Donbas and Crimea.

And Khazakhstan, a large country some distance to the east of Ukraine (see map), has been developing relations with Israel since the collapse of the Soviet Union around 1990, relations on a number of key fronts. Astana, its capital located in the far north-east of the country, has undergone a construction boom with key monuments having a strongly Masonic character.

As Collins observes, strange times on the new world frontier.

The Planned Jewish Migration Out of Israel

JC COLLINS

On March 16, 2014 the Times of Israel published a little discussed pieced titled Leaked Report: Israel Acknowledges Jews in Fact Khazars; Secret Plan for Reverse Migration to Ukraine. Just four weeks before this explosive publication, on February 18, 2014, the official and democratic government of
astana
Ukraine was ousted and a Jewish-supported new interim government was appointed. Both of these occurrences can be connected to the larger construction of a new world capital in Kazakhstan called Astana (see image).

The Times of Israel piece is important because, for the first time, there is a semi-official pronouncement of the Khazarian heritage of Eastern European Jews who migrated to the land of Palestine and established the nation of Israel.

This idea was first promoted by the Hungarian historian Arthur Koestler in his 1976 book titled The Thirteenth Tribe. Koestler suffered heavy criticism and his book was the target of a massive propaganda campaign meant to discredit his work. The fact that an official Jewish publication is now discussing a “secret report” promoting the same conclusion should not go unnoticed by the large contingent of online scholars and historians.

The Khazars were a Mongol-Tatar people (see map below) who converted to Judaism en masse during a tumultuous time in Eastern European history. Surrounded on both sides by the warring religions – Christianity and Islam, the Khazar Empire choose the path of Judaic conversation as a means of stemming off invasion from either of its larger neighbors.

In the 11th Century, the Russian Empire conquered Khazaria and destroyed any possibility of a larger establishment of a Khazarian/Jewish homeland in Eastern Europe. Centuries later, the Khazarian remnants gained a level of revenge by orchestrating the Bolshevik Revolution and murdering the Russian monarch family the Romanovs.

It is probable, but not easily proven, that after Lenin’s death and the rise of Stalin, the Soviet Union once again came under control of the ethnic Russians. This lasted until the fall of the Berlin Wall and the complete collapse of the USSR, at which time the foreign encouraged oligarchs who contributed to the economic downfall of the Union established a de facto business and industrial dictatorship over what remained.

PM Netanyahu with Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev
Ironically, the nation of Israel established diplomatic ties with the former Soviet Union member state of Kazakhstan in 1991, along with others, such as Georgia. The relationship between Israel and Kazakhstan has grown at a steady pace and includes coordination along political, trade, economic, defense, and intelligence lines.

Since the rise of Vladimir Putin in Russia and the arrest and expulsion of the oligarchs, there has been an exodus of ethnic Russians from Kazakhstan back to the motherland. This migration has included Russian doctors, teachers, scientists, and other prominent members of society. As such, Israel has been providing Kazakhstan with an increase in Jewish expertise in those same areas as relations tighten even further.

In addition, 25% of Israel’s oil comes from Kazakhstan. This is set to grow substantially in the coming years as Israel finds itself further isolated diplomatically and will be forced to give up the West Bank and possibly the Gaza Strip in order to appease international pressure. Settlers from these areas have already begun to migrate into Kazakhstan, but not at the anticipated pace of migration into Eastern Ukraine.

As strained relations between Russia and Kazakhstan increase, and military bases on both sides of the border are hardened, the battle for control of Eastern Ukraine quietly continues without much coverage in the Western media. This war is meant to remove the ethnic and Russian speaking majority from the east of the country – a region which made up a large section of the Khazar Empire a thousand years before.

When the map of ancient Khazar is superimposed over a modern map of Eastern Europe, we can clearly see the importance of Ukraine and Crimea, as well as other areas of past tension and war, such as Georgia.

Considering the inevitability of a Palestinian state, the need to resettle the settlers in the West Bank and Gaza Strip to Ukraine is becoming an all-important issue. This migration was originally intended to load Crimea with Jewish migrants, but the Russian move to annex Crimea through official diplomatic means has caused a readjustment of strategies.

The pressure building along Russia’s borders from NATO and Western Jewish financiers, such as George Soros, is intent on establishing a new Khazaria which will be larger than the original and will incorporate the nation of Kazakhstan. The remnants of the old Khazaria are working towards this objective from within the nations of Israel, Ukraine, Poland, Georgia, and Kazakhstan.

A new capital called Astana was established within Kazakhstan on December 10th, 1997. This capital is under construction and has contributed to a massive construction boom in the region. This new futuristic city is full of Masonic symbolism and New World Religion designs. Though it has relatively flown under the radar for many years, there is a surprisingly large amount of information available about the construction of Astana.

It is looking obvious that both Russia and China are willing to accept the establishment of this new Khazaria in the heart of the Eurasian continent. The monetary objectives of all players on designing a new international financial framework is extremely telling of the more macro geopolitical and economic alignments taking place.

The establishment of a one world system of governance, including political, economic, and religious, can be compared to herding cats. It would almost seem impossible if it weren’t for the fact that all cats were being directed down a very wide pathway which allows them to bump into one another and switch sides consistently as they rush to the final objective. Strange times on the new world frontier. – JC

Leaked report: Israel acknowledges Jews in fact Khazars; Secret plan for reverse migration to Ukraine

JIM WALD

Jerusalem and Zhitomir, 16 March/Adar II 14

(Our Russian and Ukrainian correspondents Hirsh Ostropoler and I. Z. Grosser-Spass also contributed to this story, delayed due to the crisis over the Crimean referendum.)

Fast-breaking Developments

Followers of Middle Eastern affairs know two things: always expect the unexpected, and never write off Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, who has more political lives than the proverbial cat.

Only yesterday came news that Syrian rebels plan to give Israel the Golan Heights in exchange for creation of a no-fly zone against the Assad regime. In an even bolder move, it is now revealed, Israel will withdraw its settlers from communities beyond the settlement blocs—and relocate them – at least temporarily – to Ukraine. Ukraine made this arrangement on the basis of historic ties and in exchange for desperately needed military assistance against Russia. This surprising turn of events had an even more surprising origin: genetics, a field in which Israeli scholars have long excelled.

A Warlike Turkic People—and a Mystery

It is well known that, sometime in the eighth to ninth centuries, the Khazars, a warlike Turkic people, converted to Judaism and ruled over a vast domain in what became southern Russia and Ukraine. What happened to them after the Russians destroyed that empire around the eleventh century has been a mystery. Many have speculated that the Khazars became the ancestors of Ashkenazi Jews.

Schnitzler1857.emp

The Khazar Empire, from M. J-H. Schnitzler’s map of The Empire of Charlemagne and that of the Arabs, (Strasbourg, 1857)

Arabs have long cited the Khazar hypothesis in attempts to deny a Jewish historical claim to the land of Israel. During the UN debate over Palestine Partition, Chaim Weizmann responded, sarcastically: “lt is very strange. All my life I have been a Jew, felt like a Jew, and I now learn that I am a Khazar.” In a more folksy vein, Prime Minister Golda Meir famously said: “Khazar, Schmazar. There is no Khazar people. I knew no Khazars in Kiev. Or Milwaukee. Show me these Khazars of whom you speak.”

KhazAxe1

A warlike people: Khazar battle axe, c. 7th-9th centuries

Contrarian Hungarian ex-communist and scientist Arthur Koestler brought the Khazar hypothesis to a wider audience with The Thirteenth Tribe (1976), in the hope that disproving a common Jewish “racial” identity would end antisemitism. Clearly, that hope has not been fulfilled. Most recently, left-wing Israeli historian Shlomo Sand’s The Invention of the Jewish People took Koestler’s thesis in a direction he had not intended, arguing that because Jews were a religious community descended from converts, they do not constitute a nation or need a state of their own. Scientists, however, dismissed the Khazar hypothesis because the genetic evidence did not add up. Until now. In 2012, Israeli researcher Eran Elhaik published a study claiming to prove that Khazar ancestry is the single largest element in the Ashkenazi gene pool. Sand declared himself vindicated, and progressive organs such as Haaretz and The Forward trumpeted the results.

Israel seems finally to have thrown in the towel. A blue-ribbon team of scholars from leading research institutions and museums has just issued a secret report to the government, acknowledging that European Jews are in fact Khazars. (Whether this would result in yet another proposal to revise the words to “Hatikvah” remains to be seen.) At first sight, this would seem to be the worst possible news, given the Prime Minister’s relentless insistence on the need for Palestinian recognition of Israel as a “Jewish state” and the stagnation of the peace talks. But others have underestimated him at their peril. An aide quipped, when life hands you an etrog, you build a sukkah.

Speaking off the record, he explained, “We first thought that admitting we are really Khazars was one way to get around Abbas’s insistence that no Jew can remain in a Palestinian state. Maybe we were grasping at straws. But when he refused to accept that, it forced us to think about more creative solutions. The Ukrainian invitation for the Jews to return was a godsend. Relocating all the settlers within Israel in a short time would be difficult for reasons of logistics and economics. We certainly don’t want another fashlan like the expulsion of the settlers in the Gaza Hitnatkut [disengagement].

“We’re not talking about all the Ashkenazi Jews going back to Ukraine. Obviously that is not practical.”

Speaking on deep background, a well-placed source in intelligence circles said: “We’re not talking about all the Ashkenazi Jews going back to Ukraine. Obviously that is not practical. The press as usual exaggerates and sensationalizes; this is why we need military censorship.”

Khazaria 2.0?

All Jews who wish to return would be welcomed back without condition as citizens, the more so if they take part in the promised infusion of massive Israeli military assistance, including troops, equipment, and construction of new bases. If the initial transfer works, other West Bank settlers would be encouraged to relocate to Ukraine, as well. After Ukraine, bolstered by this support, reestablishes control over all its territory, the current Autonomous Republic of Crimea would once again become an autonomous Jewish domain. The small-scale successor to the medieval empire of Khazaria (as the peninsula, too, was once known) would be called, in Yiddish, Chazerai.

SprunerCarl.det.1000

the Khazar Empire, map of Europe in the Age of Charles the Great, from Karl von Spruner, _Historisch-geographischer Hand-Atlas_ (Gotha, 1854)

the Khazars did not have to live within ‘Auschwitz borders.’

“As you know,” the spokesman continued, “the Prime Minister has said time and again: we are a proud and ancient people whose history here goes back 4,000 years. The same is true of the Khazars: just back in Europe and not quite as long. But look at the map: the Khazars did not have to live within ‘Auschwitz borders.’”

EmpCharlMonin.1841.500

no “Auschwitz borders”: the great extent of the Khazar Empire (pink, at right) is readily apparent in this map of Europe circa 800, by Monin (Paris, 1841). Compare with Charlemagne’s empire (pink, at left)

“As the Prime Minister has said, no one will tell Jews where they may or may not live on the historic territory of their existence as a sovereign people. He is willing to make painful sacrifices for peace, even if that means giving up part of our biblical homeland in Judea and Samaria. But then you have to expect us to exercise our historical rights somewhere else. We decided this will be on the shores of the Black Sea, where we were an autochthonous people for more than 2000 years. Even the great non-Zionist historian Simon Dubnow said we had the right to colonize Crimea. It’s in all the history books. You can look it up.”

Old-New Land?

“We’d like to think of it as sort of a homeland-away-from-home,” added the anonymous intelligence source. “Or the original one,” he said with a wink. “After all, Herzl wrote about the Old-New Land, didn’t he? And the transition shouldn’t be too difficult for the settlers because, you know, they’ll still get to feel as if they are pioneers: experience danger, construct new housing, carry weapons. The women can continue to wear scarves on their heads, and the food won’t be very different from what they already eat.”

In retrospect, we should have seen this coming, said a venerable State Department Arabist, ticking off the signs on his fingers: a little-noticed report that Russia was cracking down on Israeli smuggling of Khazar artifacts, the decisions of both Spain and Portugal to give citizenship to descendants of their expelled Jews, as well as evidence that former IDF soldiers were already leading militias in support of the Ukrainian government. And now, also maybe the possibility that the missing Malaysian jet was diverted to Central Asia.

A veteran Middle East journalist said: “It’s problematic, but in a perverse way, brilliant. In one fell swoop, Bibi has managed to confound friend and foe alike. He’s put the ball back in the Palestinians’ court and relieved the pressure from the Americans without actually making any real concessions. Meanwhile, by lining up with the Syrian rebels and Ukraine, as well as Georgia and Azerbaijan, he compensates for the loss of the Turkish alliance and puts pressure on both Assad and Iran. And the new Cypriot-Israeli gas deal props up Ukraine and weakens the economic leverage of both the Russians and the Gulf oil states. Just brilliant.”

Reactions from around the world

Given the confluence of the weekend and the Purim and Saint Patrick’s Day holidays, reporters scrambled to get responses. Reactions from around the world trickled in.

• Members of the YESHA Council of settlers, some of them evidently the worse for wear after too much festival slivovitz, were caught completely off-guard. Always wary of Netanyahu, whom they regard as a slick opportunist rather than reliable ideological ally, they refused to comment until they had further assessed the situation.

Most of the hastily offered reactions fell into the predictable categories.

• Right-wing antisemitic groups pounced on the story as vindication of their conspiracy theories, claiming that this was the culmination of the Jews’ centuries-old plan to avenge the defeat of Khazaria by the Russians in the Middle Ages, a reprise of Israel’s support for Georgia in 2008. “Jews have memories as long as their noses,” one declared.

a continuum of conquest and cruelty?

• From Ramallah, a Fatah spokesman said the offer was a start but did not go nearly far enough toward satisfying Palestinian demands. Holding up an image of a Khazar warrior from an archaeological artifact, he explained:

There is a continuum of conquest and cruelty. It’s very simple, genetics does not lie. We see the results today: the Zionist regime and brutal Occupation Forces are descended from warlike barbarians. Palestinians are descended from peaceful pastoralists, in fact, from the ancient Israelites that you have falsely claimed as your ancestors. By the way, it is not true, however, that your ancestors ever had a temple in Jerusalem.

• The famously reliable unofficial intelligence website DAFTKAfile admitted:

Boy, are our faces red. We were caught flat-footed and thought that the return to Spain and Portugal was the real story. Obviously, that was an impeccably planned and clever feint to distract attention from the coming revolution in Ukraine. Nicely played, Mossad.

• Prolific blogger Richard Sliverstein, whose knowledge of Jewish culture and uncanny ability to ferret out military secrets regularly provoke astonishment even among his critics, commented:

Frankly, I’m surprised that my Mossad sources did not get this story to me first. But I’ve been up against a deadline for an essay on the kabbalistic significance of sesame seeds, the main ingredient in hummus, so I haven’t caught up on my email. But, do I feel vindicated? Well, yes, but it’s scant satisfaction. I’ve been saying for years that the Jews are descended from Mongol-Tatar Khazars, but it has barely made a dent in the propaganda armor of these Zionist hasbaroid dolts.

• An official of a leading human-rights NGO said:

Evacuating illegal settlements must be a part of any peace deal, but first forcing settlers to leave Palestine and then resettling them in Ukraine may be a violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention. We’ll see what the ICC has to say about this. And if they think they can be even more trigger-happy in Ukraine than the West Bank, they have another think coming.

• Ultra-Ultra-Orthodox spokesman Menuchem Yontef (formerly of Inowraclaw) welcomed the news:

We reject the Zionist state, which is illegitimate until Mashiach comes. We don’t care where we live as long as we can study the Torah and obey its commandments in full. However, we refuse to serve in the military there as well as here. And—we also want subsidies. That is G-d’s will.

• The spokeswoman for a delegation of Episcopalian peace activists, reached after the Christ at the Checkpoint conference in Bethlehem, said, with tears in her eyes:

We applaud this consistency of principle. If only all Jews would think like Menuchem Yontef—in fact, I’d like to call them “Menuchem Yontef Jews”: “M. Y. Jews,” for short—then antisemitism would disappear and members of all three Abrahamic faiths would again live together peacefully here as they did before the advent of Zionism. The nation-state is a relic of the nineteenth century, which has caused untold suffering. The most urgent task for world peace is the immediate creation of a free and sovereign Palestine.

• Noted academic and theorist Judith Buntler mused:

It may seem like a paradox to establish alterity or ‘interruption’ at the heart of ethical relations. But to know that we have first to consider what such terms mean. One might argue that the distinctive trait of Khazarian identity is that it is interrupted by alterity, that the relation to the gentile defines not only its diasporic situation, but one of its most fundamental ethical relations. Although such a statement may well be true (meaning that it belongs to a set of statements that are true), it manages to reserve alterity as a predicate of a prior subject. The relation to alterity becomes one predicate of ‘being Khazarian.’ It is quite another thing to understand that very relationship as challenging the idea of ‘Khazarian’ as a static sort of being, one that is adequately described as a subject. . . . coexistence projects can only begin with the dismantling of political Zionism.

not the “two-state solution” they expected?

• Anti-Israel BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) leader Ali Abubinomial put it more simply. Pounding his desk, he fumed, “So, Israel and Khazaria? This is what the Zionists mean by a ‘two-state solution’?! Do the math! Has no one read my book?”

• Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) called an emergency meeting to establish ties with the Pecheneg Liberation Organization (PLO), saying, “Pechenegs should not pay the price for European antisemitism.” The new solidarity group, “Students for Pechenegs in Ukraine” (SPUK), proclaimed as its motto: “From the Black to the Caspian Sea, We’re Gonna Find Somebody to Free!”

• For his part, peace activist and former East Jerusalem administrator Myron Benvenuti responded with equanimity: “I’ve got nothing to worry about: I’m Sephardic and my family has lived here for centuries. Anyway, if I have to go somewhere else, it’s going to be Spain, not Ukraine: more sunshine, less gunfire.”

The consensus of the broad majority of “Middle Israel,” which feels that Netanyahu is not doing enough for peace but also questions the sincerity of the Palestinians, is skeptical and despairing. One woman said, in frustration: We all long for an agreement but just cannot see how to achieve it. For now, all we can see is this Chazerai.

Update March 17:

Latest reports, including Vladimir Putin’s recognition of Crimea as a “sovereign and independent state,” and the estimate that relocation of Israeli settlers in any peace agreement would cost $10 billion, confirm the details of the above story. Ed.

A Decade of War Lies Crescendo Amid the New ‘Red Scare’

by Josh Everson Posted on March 11, 2022March 12, 2022

Link: https://original.antiwar.com/Josh_E...of-war-lies-crescendo-amid-the-new-red-scare/

It’s tragically comic, but the new wave of Americans’ interest in U.S. foreign policy, characterized by blue and yellow profile pics and bans of Russian vodka, cats, and Tchaikovsky, has this writer actually longing for Americans’ famously steadfast apathy of years gone by. Whereas, Americans once were unified in their utter disinterest bordering on discontent for the victims of its foreign policy, today Americans on both sides of the aisle are unified against “the Red Menace” and in the need for a humanitarian intervention to save Ukraine.

Of course, it’s that same willing ignorance and apathy that brought us to this point. Indeed, the current pro-war, anti-Russia discourse surrounding the 2022 Ukraine-Russia war could be viewed as a major win for US hawks who prefer rising tensions with Russia. But how did we get here?

(Writer’s note: I will mostly omit the question of NATO expansion in this article (that issue has received a lot of coverage recently) and will instead focus on other aspects of US-Russia relations from the last decade.

“The 1980’s are calling, they want their foreign policy back”

The US population has been subjected to a constant barrage of renewed anti-Russia propaganda for at least the last decade. Gone are the liberal domestic-focused sentiments exhibited by Democrat candidate Barack Obama in a 2012 debate when he witfully criticized Republican Mitt Romney’s hawkish, anti-Russia foreign policy as old fashioned. Obama quipped the instant classic, “The 1980’s are calling, they want their foreign policy back.” Obama was right. Twenty years of post-Soviet Russia had clearly demonstrated a willingness to "play ball" with the US, facilitating the US Wars on Terror (more accurately, Terror Wars) against Al Qaeda and anyone else in the crosshairs of the US War State.

All this changed in 2011, when the new liberal “humanitarian interventionist” establishment reached critical mass: people like former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Samantha Powers (currently head of USAID for Biden), and Susan Rice (currently head of the United States Domestic Policy Council). As described by the late journalist Michael Hastings in his Rolling Stone article “Inside the Obama War Room” these liberal hawks convinced Obama, against the recommendations of veteran hawk and holdover from the Bush administration Robert Gates, that the US needed to intervene in Libya to stop a genocide in 2011. Those fears proved to be entirely made up, but they were a sufficient casus belli for the Obama administration to intervene against Gaddafi’s forces to the direct benefit of Islamic extremist groups like the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group and Ansar Al-Sharia. A former commander of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group put it bluntly: “If there is a power vacuum in Libya there will be an open market for al Qaeda.” Russia, America’s former ally in the Terror Wars, strongly opposed US/NATO intervention in Libya, correctly fearing a rise of extremist forces in North Africa. Thus, Obama’s war in Libya marked a turning point in US-Russia relations and Russia’s view of the NATO alliance. With NATO directly intervening in a country despite there being no defensive threat to NATO members, the idea that NATO is a "purely defensive" pact had been laid to rest in the minds of Russia’s leadership.

US foreign policy had redirected. Rather than the “Dumb Power” that described the Bush administration’s large, boots-on-the-ground invasions, the liberal hawks’ new “Smart Power” and “Responsibility to Protect (R2P)” policies would instead “Lead from Behind” by empowering dissident extremist groups to rise up against their local governments with help of US air support and pallets of US dollars. That set the stage for America’s new war footing, and in the subsequent years of Obama’s administration, he supported major military interventions in several different countries, including Syria, Iraq (after withdrawing per the agreement signed by Bush, Obama re-intervened in the name of confronting ISIS), Yemen, and Egypt, among others.

"What’s Aleppo?"

It was Obama’s intervention in Syria against Russia’s ally Bushar al-Assad that was the final nail in the coffin of the U.S.-Russia alliance against Islamist Extremists which had held predominance for the previous decade. In 2013, the Obama administration began openly backing so-called "moderate rebel groups" in the new proxy war against Assad’s government in Syria. According to Seymour Hersh, this direct aid from the U.S. government actually went back further and could be directly linked to the Libyan consulate (see: The Red Line and the Rat Line). Aside: Obama himself later described the existence of such "moderate rebels" which he himself had championed for years "a fantasy." This begs the question, if those groups weren’t moderates, who were they? We now know that US weapons ended up in the hands of al-Qaeda (AQ) linked groups like the al-Nusra Front (now called Jabhat Fateh al-Sham), whose leader had even sworn allegiance to AQ frontman Ayman al-Zawahiri.

The fact that the US was actively supporting known terrorists is even confirmed in official US government documents, specifically a report from the Defense Intelligence Agency from 2012 (at the time headed by Russiagate victim Michael Flynn) that noted the US was supporting groups in Syria with known links to AQ and other groups that would later be called ISIS. But the report went even further, shockingly stating in black and white this support by the Obama administration and its allies risked, "THE POSSIBILITY OF ESTABLISHING A DECLARED OR UNDECLARED SALAFIST PRINCIPALITY IN EASTERN SYRIA (HASAKA AND DER ZOR), AND THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT THE SUPPORTING POWERS TO THE OPPOSITION WANT, IN ORDER TO ISOLATE THE SYRIAN REGIME…".

The West’s support of AQ-aligned terrorists was simply too much for Russia to bear, so in 2015 Putin ordered Russia’s military to intervene in Syria against AQ and ISIS in favor of the Assad government. This writer has not forgotten that following this announcement, the same so-called liberal hawks who supported backing the "moderate rebel" fantasy began openly calling for a "No-Fly Zone" to establish "Humanitarian corridors" in Syria, something we hear today vis-à-vis Ukraine. If Obama had followed through on that, it would have certainly meant direct conflicts between US and Russian air forces, which very easily could have devolved into a new world war with Russia. Luckily, Obama knew better and refused to take the bait. However, the entire Syria debacle had done irreparable damage to the U.S.-Russia relationship. Russia’s leadership recognized that it could no longer sit idly by while out of control hawks in the US government ran roughshod all over the world.

“F**k the EU”: Victoria Nuland’s New American Century

Unfortunately, Obama’s new "sober realism" did not extend to NATO expansion in Europe. In late 2013-2014 members of the Obama administration, including current Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland (Dick Cheney’s Chief of Staff and wife of Project for a New American Century (PNAC) co-founder and arch neocon Robert Kagan), as well as posthumous liberal heartthrob John McCain, could be seen palling around with ethno-nationalist, Nazi-aligned groups at the Maidan protests in Kiev and pushing for a regime change.

We got a taste of what Nuland and the U.S.’ had in mind for Ukraine, when two months before the February 21st, 2014 overthrow of Ukraine’s democratically-elected Yanukovych government, a phone call was leaked providing ironclad evidence that the US was planning to employ Ukrainian ethnonationalists (among others named by Nuland is Tyahnybok, founder of Svoboda or "Social-National Party," a not-too-subtle nod to the Nazi, "National-Socialist Party") to overthrow the Ukrainian government.

In the call, Victoria Nuland (then Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs at the State Dept) and Geoffrey Pyatt (then US Ambassador to Ukraine) go so far as to name their preferred interim president, Yatsenyuk ("Yats is the guy") and named Biden as supporting their plans in case "The Russians…try to torpedo it [the coup]." If you haven’t heard the full recording, it really is a must hear. US media in 2014 limited its coverage to "US official says bad word about our European friends" and completely ignored the coup plot. You can hear the recording on The Guardian, "‘F**k the EU’: US diplomat Victoria Nuland’s phonecall leaked – video."

It has been said that the 2014 Ukraine coup was the most public coup of all time. Nevertheless, the coup went forward successfully, albeit with a different Western-aligned leader. Oh, and just like planned by Nuland and Pyatt, those ethnonationalist, arguably Nazi groups who helped form the new government took (and still hold) important political offices in Ukraine’s new government, including becoming members of the Kiev parliament (e.g. Tyahnybok), and incorporating into the Ukraine National Guard (e.g. the Azov battalion, who’s logo, the Wolfsangel, is one of the original symbols used by the 2nd SS Panzer Division of the Nazi Reich).

However, this wealth of evidence wasn’t enough to stop liberal and conservative hawks alike from shamelessly promoting the New Ukraine. US officials looked the other way at the anti-gay and anti-Romani pogroms and state-sponsored beatings that began happening in regions controlled by the new government. They also ignored the onslaught of anti-Russia laws emanating out of Kiev, including a renewed push to ban of the use of the Russian language in official business and a requirement that all Ukrainian citizens know the new official language, which finally passed in 2019.

All of this was too much for Putin to bear, who reportedly became incensed at the shameless hubris of the US political class. It was at this point, a month after the US-backed coup in Kiev, that Putin ordered his forces already stationed at the strategically important Sevastopol Naval Base, which had been built by and held by Russia since 1783, to seize the Crimean Peninsula. It should be noted that prior to this seizure, a popular referendum in Crimea voted to rejoin Russia by 97%.

Nevertheless, US media cried foul. Without whispering a word about the February coup or the recent pushes to join Ukraine into NATO, i.e. the context that led to Russia taking such a big and overt action, the talking points simply became "Russian aggression" and "Russia annexed Crimea."

A new century, a new "Red Scare"

The US public quickly forgot about Crimea until renewed interest in Russia came in 2015, when then candidate Donald Trump could be heard questioning the relevance of NATO and the rightness of US military might around the world. We now know that his political opponent, Hillary Clinton, and her lawyer Michael Sussman, were central in what would come to be known as Russiagate, the claim that there were secret ties between the Kremlin and Trump campaign, which conspired to change the outcome of the 2016 presidential election.

We can see now that this was all part of the plan. The Russiagate conspiracy hoax, created not-seen-since-the-1950’s Russiaphobic hysteria. None of the claims about Russian ties panned out, but that didn’t (and doesn’t) matter – the damage was done. Despite the Mueller report showing no evidence of a Trump-Russia conspiracy, and the most "Russian meddling in our elections" that was ever proven were simply meager tens of thousands of dollars spent on silly Facebook ads, Americans by-in-large bought it, and still have not come to terms with the fact they were duped. Instead, Russia fears have been internalized, the facts be damned. In 2019, Donald Trump was even impeached by congressional Democrats for refusing to provide Ukraine with direct military aid, a policy unironically also held by his predecessor, Barack Obama.

Which brings us to February 24th 2022. Around the 8th anniversary of the U.S.-backed coup in Kiev, and after another round of failed requests for the U.S. government (now headed by Joe Biden) to accept an independent, non-NATO member Ukraine, Russia invaded greater Ukraine. Immediately the same voices were heard calling for the US to intervene with sanctions and aid, including again from Victoria Nuland. Luckily, Biden has held fast against these renewed calls to directly intervene militarily, risking thermonuclear war, to the chagrin of many analysts and the more "war-like" politicians.

A house of cards, an empire of lies

After being force-fed a decade of lies about Russia (from Syria to Crimea to Russiagate), Americans are expertly poised to fear and hate Russia, the new Red Menace.

The overwhelming weight of evidence of Russia’s legitimate grievances with the US mean nothing, because most Americans have never heard of it. Somehow such alternative viewpoints never make it into the carefully crafted news narratives of the mainstream. What’s worse, these lies and propaganda build upon each other and support each other. For example, if one had no idea that the US and allies were attempting to replace Assad with Al Qaeda in Syria, then they would have been more willing to believe that Russia’s intervention there was for the all wrong reasons. Similarly, if one did not know about the February 2014 U.S.-backed coup in Kiev, then claims that Russia had aggressed into Ukraine and stolen Crimea in March 2014 would be much more shocking and seemingly unprovoked. Lastly, if one had just been subjected to five years of relentless Russiagate reporting on the existential threat Russia’s Putin represented for our beloved freedom and democracy, one could be forgiven for believing these latest claims about Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.

This is the Washington playbook. Make up lies to support ongoing crimes, and new lies to justify future crimes. History always starts the day after the opposition reacts, as we saw with Crimea, and there’s no need to consider the enemy’s motivations. It’s much simpler to pretend the US is the indispensable nation, the shining beacon on a hill, and defender of the weak and helpless against the forces of tyranny. As President Biden said in his February 24th response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, "America stands up to bullies. We stand up for freedom. That is who we are."

As is often the case, the truth is more complicated.

Orwell Was Right

orwell 1984

From free speech to “spheres of influence” to our passion for endless war, we’ve become the doublethinkers 1984 predicted

This weekend I re-read 1984, a book I tend to reach for when I get Defcon-1 depressed about the state of the world. Deep in the novel, Winston ponders the intricacies of doublethink:

To know and not to know, to be conscious of complete truthfulness while telling carefully constructed lies, to hold simultaneously two opinions which canceled out, knowing them to be contradictory and believing in both of them… To forget whatever it was necessary to forget, then to draw it back into memory again at the moment when it was needed, and then promptly to forget it again… that was the ultimate subtlety.
In the last weeks, Russia took an already exacting speech environment to new extremes. A law was passed that would impose 15-year prison sentences for anyone spreading “fake news” about the Ukraine invasion; access was cut to Facebook and Twitter; stations like Echo Moskvi and TV Rain as well as BBC Russia, Radio Liberty, the New Times, Deutsche Welle, Doxa, and Latvia-based Meduza were effectively shut down; Wikipedia was threatened with a block over its invasion page; and national authorities have appeared to step in to prevent coverage of soldiers killed in the war, requiring local outlets to use terms like “special operation” instead. The latter development is connected to the state media regulator, Roskomnadzor, issuing a remarkably desperate dictum requiring news outlets to “use information and data received by them only from official Russian sources.”

Russia also appears in the middle of a general crackdown on local media, not so much because those outlets are dissenting, but because they’re more likely to provide indirect evidence of war failures or the effect of sanctions. The desperation to control news has grown to the point where Russian diplomats in foreign countries are pressuring state outlets in countries like Iran to stop using the term “war” to describe what’s going on in Ukraine.

On the flip side, a slew of actions have been taken to crack down on “fake news” and “misinformation” in the West. The big one was the European Union banning RT and Sputnik:

Due to the ongoing war in Ukraine, we’re blocking YouTube channels connected to RT and Sputnik across Europe, effective immediately. It’ll take time for our systems to fully ramp up. Our teams continue to monitor the situation around the clock to take swift action.
— Google Europe (@googleeurope) March 1, 2022

Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, and YouTube also cut access to all Russian state media, because the EU sanctions also required that internet platforms delist any RT or Sputnik content, even from individuals. The statute reads, “As regards the posts made by individuals that reproduce the content of RT and Sputnik, those posts shall not be published, and if published, shall be deleted.”

Other governments across the West, from Australia to Canada, have taken similar actions. In the U.S., Google and YouTube disallowed Russian state media ads (following a request by Senator Mark Warner) and demonetized “a number of Russian channels,” including RT but also many non-Russian individuals, before proceeding to demonetize all individual Russian content creators, even the individuals opposing the invasion. Even DuckDuckGo, the speechier, more pro-privacy alternative to Google, announced it was de-ranking “sites associated with Russian disinformation.” A growing list of Westerners have seen accounts frozen for supposed parroting of Russian talking points or “abusive” commentary.

YouTube banned Oliver Stone’s documentary Ukraine on Fire, while Netflix is going so far as to shelve a production of Anna Karenina. In what might have been the craziest move of all, Meta reportedly followed up a decision to un-ban the neo-Nazi Azov Battalion with a mind-blowing decision to alter its hate speech policies to “allow Facebook and Instagram users in some countries to call for violence against Russians and Russian soldiers in the context of the Ukraine invasion,” according to internal emails seen by Reuters.

One would hope there would be at least a few Americans left who’d hear about Russia barring the BBC and Voice of America and at least recognize the sameness of the issue involved with banning RT and Sputnik. Or, seeing how pathetic and manipulative it is for Russians to prevent reporting on war casualties, we’d recall the folly of the ban we had for nearly twenty years on photographs of military coffins, or the continuing pressure on embeds to avoid publishing images of American deaths from our own war zones. We should be able to read that Twitter and Facebook are cracking down on the “fake accounts” spreading “misinformation” that “Ukraine isn’t doing well” and notice that Russia’s measures against “fake news” and “disinformation” about its own military failures — though far more draconian and carrying much more severe penalties — are rooted in the same concept.

We don’t, however, because we long ago reached the doublethink phase predicted by Orwell, where most of the population is conscious of double standards but ignores them effortlessly. A healthy person should be able to be horrified by what’s happening in Russia and also see a warning about the degradation that ensues from using “pre-emptive” force, or from trying to control discontent by erasing expressions of it. But years of relentless propaganda have trained Americans to doublethink their way out of such insights. Cornel West just laid all of this out in an interview with the New Yorker: [ck site link, above, top]

Despite big spending and last minute propo efforts by the Soros and WEF NGO’s, the U.S. State Department, and the EU, the Anti-Ukrainian War Party SMER, led by Robert Fico, has won the Slovakian Elections.
Of course, the US Media is calling them the “Pro-Russia Party.
Anyone against the senseless war in Ukraine has been branded as “Pro-Russian!” for almost two years now.

How Jewish Is the War Against Russia?
Let’s be honest about who is promoting it

PHILIP GIRALDI • JULY 12, 2022

Link: https://www.unz.com/pgiraldi/how-jewish-is-the-war-against-russia/

Five years ago, I wrote an article entitled “America’s Jews Are Driving America’s wars.” It turned out to be the most popular piece that I have ever written and I was rewarded for it by immediately being fired by the so-called American Conservative magazine, where I had been a regular and highly popular contributor for fourteen years. I opened the article with a brief description of an encounter with a supporter whom I had met shortly before at an antiwar conference. The elderly gentleman asked “Why doesn’t anyone ever speak honestly about the six-hundred-pound gorilla in the room? Nobody has mentioned Israel in this conference and we all know it’s American Jews with all their money and power who are supporting every war in the Middle East for Netanyahu? Shouldn’t we start calling them out and not letting them get away with it?”
In my article I named many of the individual Jews and Jewish groups that had been leading the charge to invade Iraq and also deal with Iran along the way. They used fake intelligence and out-and-out lies to make their case and never addressed the central issue of how those two countries actually threatened the United States or its vital interests. And when they succeeded in committing the US to the fiasco in Iraq, as far as I can determine only one honest Jew who had participated in the process, Philip Zelikow, in a moment of candor, admitted that the Iraq War, in his opinion, was fought for Israel.
There was considerable collusion between the Israeli government and the Jews in the Pentagon, White House, National Security Council and State Department in the wake of 9/11. Under President George W. Bush, Israeli Embassy staff uniquely had free access to the Pentagon office of Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz, not being required to sign in or submit any security measures. It was a powerful indication of the special status that Israel enjoyed with top Jews in the Bush Administration. It should also be recalled that Doug Feith’s Office of Special Plans was the source of the false WMD information used by the Administration to justify invading Iraq, while that information was also funneled directly to Vice President Dick Cheney without any submission to possibly critical analysts by his chief of Staff “Scooter” Libby. Wolfowitz, Feith and Libby were of course Jewish as were many on their staffs and Feith’s relationship with Israel was so close that he actually partnered in a law firm that had a branch in Jerusalem. Feith also served on the board of the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA), which is dedicated to nurturing the relationship between the US and Israel.
Currently, the top three State Department officials (Tony Blinken, Wendy Sherman and Victoria Nuland) are all Zionist Jews. The head of the Department of Homeland Security, which is hot on the trail of domestic “terrorist” dissidents, is also Jewish as is the Attorney General and the president’s chief of staff. They and their boss Joe Biden do not seem concerned that their client Ukraine is no democracy. The nation’s current government came into power after the 2014 coup engineered by President Barack Obama’s State Department at an estimated cost of $5 billion. The regime change carried out under Barack Obama was driven by State Department Russophobe Victoria Nuland with a little help from international globalist George Soros. It removed the democratically elected President Viktor Yanukovych who was, unfortunately for him, a friend of Russia.
Ukraine is reputedly both the poorest and most corrupt country in Europe, witness the Hunter Biden saga. The current President Volodymyr Zelensky, who is Jewish and claims to have holocaust victims in his family tree, is a former comedian who won election in 2019. He replaced another Jewish president Petro Poroshenko, after being heavily funded and promoted by yet another fellow Jew and Ukraine’s richest oligarch Ihor Kolomoyskyi, who is also an Israeli citizen and now lives in Israel.
It all sounds like deja vu all over again, particularly as many of the perpetrators are still around, like Nuland, priming the pump to go to war yet again for no reason. And they are joined by journalists like Bret Stephens at the New York Times, Wolf Blitzer and Jake Tapper at CNN, and also Max Boot at the Washington Post, all of whom are Jewish and can be counted on to write regular pieces both damning and demonizing Russia and its head of state Vladimir Putin, which means it is not only about the Middle East anymore. It is also about weakening and even bringing about regime change in nuclear armed Russia while also drawing some lines in the sand for likewise nuclear armed China. And I might add that playing power games with Russia is a hell of a lot more dangerous that kicking Iraq around.
To put it bluntly, many US government and media Jews hate Russia and even though they benefited substantially as a group by virtue of their preeminent role in the looting of the former Soviet Union under Boris Yeltsin and continue to be among the most prominent Russian oligarchs. Many of the oligarch billionaires, like Boris Berezovsky, self-exiled when Vladimir Putin obtained power and began to crack down on their tax avoidance and other illegal activity. Many moved to Western Europe where some bought up football teams while others went south and obtained Israeli citizenship. Their current grievances somewhat reflect their tribe’s demand for perpetual victimhood and the deference plus forgiveness of all sins that it conveys, with the self-promoted tales of persecution going back to the days of the Tsars, full of allegations about pogroms and Cossacks arriving in the night, stories that rival many of the holocaust fabrications in terms of their lack of credibility.
Many Jews, particularly younger Jews, are finding it difficult to support apartheid Israel and the constant wars being initiated and fought for no particularly credible reason by both Democratic and Republican parties when in power, which is a good thing. But Jewish power in Washington and across the US is difficult to ignore and it is precisely those Jewish groups and individuals who have been empowered through their wealth and connections who have been the most vocal leading warmongers when it has come to the Middle East and to Russia.
Interestingly, however, some pushback is developing. The Jewish peace group Tikkun has recently published a devastating article by Jeffrey Sachs on the Jews who have been agitating for war. It is entitled “Ukraine Is the Latest Neocon Disaster” and describes how “The war in Ukraine is the culmination of a 30-year project of the American neoconservative movement. The Biden Administration is packed with the same neocons who championed the US wars of choice in Serbia (1999), Afghanistan (2001), Iraq (2003), Syria (2011), Libya (2011), and who did so much to provoke Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The neocon track record is one of unmitigated disaster, yet Biden has staffed his team with neocons. As a result, Biden is steering Ukraine, the US, and the European Union towards yet another geopolitical debacle…”
Tikkun explains how “The neocon movement emerged in the 1970s around a group of public intellectuals, several of whom were influenced by University of Chicago political scientist Leo Strauss and Yale University classicist Donald Kagan. Neocon leaders included Norman Podhoretz, Irving Kristol, Paul Wolfowitz, Robert Kagan (son of Donald), Frederick Kagan (son of Donald), Victoria Nuland (wife of Robert), Elliott Abrams, and Kimberley Allen Kagan (wife of Frederick).” It might be added that Kimberley Kagan heads the Institute for the Study of War, which is often cited in media coverage and even in Congress to explain why we must fight Russia.
It has long been recognized by many that a particular antipathy directed against Russia permeates the so-called neoconservative world view. The neocons are hugely overrepresented at the top levels of government and, as noted above, a number of them are running the State Department while also holding high level positions elsewhere in the Biden Administration as well as in the foreign policy think tanks, including Richard Haass at the influential Council on Foreign Relations. Likewise, the intensely Russophobic US and Western media, foundations and social networking sites are disproportionately Jewish in their ownership and staffing.
And beyond that, Ukraine is to a certain extent a very Jewish-identified place. The Jewish media in the US and elsewhere has been showering Zelensky with praise, referring to him as a genuine “Jewish hero,” a modern Maccabee resisting oppression, a David versus Goliath. T-shirts bearing his image are being sold that read “Resisting tyrants since Pharaoh” while the largely Orthodox Jewish community in New York City has already been raising millions of dollars for Ukrainian aid.
The Jewish Telegraphic Agency reports that a “2020 demographic survey estimated that besides a ‘core’ population of 43,000 Jews, around 200,000 Ukrainians are technically eligible for Israeli citizenship, meaning that they have identifiable Jewish ancestry. The European Jewish Congress says that number could be as high as 400,000.” If that is true, it is one of the largest Jewish communities in the world and it includes at least 8,000 Israelis, many of whom have returned to Israel.
As US-Russian negotiations leading up the current fighting were clearly designed to fail by the Biden Administration, one therefore has to wonder if this war against Russia is largely a product of a long enduring ethno-religious hatred coupled with a belief in the necessity for a strong American military applied as needed to dominate the world and thereby protect Israel. The neocons are most visible, but equally toxic are the Jews who would prefer to describe themselves as neoliberals or liberal interventionists, that is liberals who promote a strong, assertive American leadership role to support the basically phony catchwords “democracy” and “freedom.” Both neocons and neoliberals inevitably support the same policies so they have both ends of the political spectrum covered, particularly concerning the Middle East and against Russia. They currently dominate the foreign policy thinking of both major political parties as well as exercising control over media and entertainment industry coverage of the issues that concern them, largely leaving the American public with only their viewpoint to consider.
There is plenty of other evidence that prominent Jews both inside and outside the Administration have been stirring things up against Russia with considerable success as President Biden has now declared insanely that his Administration is engaged in “a great battle for freedom. A battle between democracy and autocracy. Between liberty and repression.” He has confirmed that the US is in Ukraine’s war against Russia until we “win.” How else does one explain the ridiculous trip by Attorney General Merrick Garland to Kiev in late June to help set up a war crimes investigation directed against Russia?
As Garland is supposed to be the US Attorney General, it might first be useful to investigate crimes relating to the United States. He might start with American war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan or Israeli war crimes using Washington provided weapons in Lebanon and Syria, not to mention the human rights violations using those same weapons that occur on a daily basis directed against the Palestinians. Some conservatives are also wondering why the Attorney General spends his time pursuing “white supremacists” and has failed to investigate the rioting, looting and killing that rocked the nation in the BLM Summer of 2020.
Nevertheless, an undeterred and fearless Garland announced while in Kiev that Eli Rosenbaum, Jewish of course, and a 36-year veteran of the Justice Department who previously served as the director of the Office of Special Investigations, which was primarily responsible for identifying, denaturalizing and deporting Nazi war criminals, will lead a War Crimes Accountability team made up of DOJ experts in investigating Russian human-rights abuses. After the obligatory photo op sucking up to Zelensky, the diminutive but steely eyed Attorney General declared that “There is no hiding place for war criminals. The US Justice Department will pursue every avenue of accountability for those who commit war crimes and other atrocities in Ukraine. Working alongside our domestic and international partners, the Justice Department will be relentless in our efforts to hold accountable every person complicit in the commission of war crimes, torture and other grave violations during the unprovoked conflict in Ukraine.” And if any further evidence required to demonstrate the Jewishness of that week in Kiev, actor Ben Stiller, also a Jew, visited Zelensky and gave him a big hug.
If Eli Rosenbaum is still seriously interested in finding Nazis he will find many more of them in Ukraine than within the Russian Army. So, one has to ask “Whose war is it and who is making it happen?” Can you please explain Joe Biden? Or, given your perpetual blank look, should I ask Merrick Garland or Tony Blinken or maybe even Victoria Nuland?
