Some hotels in Los Angeles are apparently replacing striking American unionized workers with people who crossed the border into America illegally.
Talk about adding insult to injury.
Do the people of Los Angeles still like the idea of being a sanctuary city? Do they like being replaced in this way?

L.A. hotels hire migrants from Skid Row homeless shelter to replace striking workers. Gascón investigates
When Norelis Vargas heard about housekeeping work at a hotel near Los Angeles International Airport, she did not hesitate to sign up.
Vargas, 39, who migrated from Venezuela and entered the U.S. about three months ago seeking asylum, had been living with her husband and four children at Union Rescue Mission, a homeless shelter on Skid Row, and needed the income. But when she arrived at Four Points by Sheraton on Oct. 6, Vargas said she was surprised to find a group of hotel employees picketing…
Vargas is among those from Skid Row’s migrant population who have been recruited in recent weeks to work at unionized hotels in Santa Monica and near Los Angeles International Airport where workers have gone on strike. In addition to the Four Points by Sheraton hotel, migrants were hired at the Le Meridien Delfina Santa Monica and the Holiday Inn LAX, according to interviews with migrants employed as temporary workers and organizers with Unite Here Local 11.
Now Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. George Gascón is launching an investigation into working conditions for migrants hired at hotels based on information brought to him by Unite Here Local 11, which represents workers involved in the largest U.S. hotel strike. Gascón said he is concerned about potential wage theft and violations of child labor law.

It’s funny that local officials are acting all concerned about the hours and pay these people are receiving. That’s hardly the most important issue here.

Texas scores major win as judge issues order blocking Biden from destroying state's border fence

Afederal judge issued an extraordinary temporary restraining order Monday barring the Biden administration from destroying or tampering with a temporary concertina wire fence installed by Texas to protect its border with Mexico.
Chief U.S. District Judge Alia Moses, in Del Rio, ruled Texas had a likelihood of prevailing in its lawsuit and would suffer significant harm if federal officials were allowed to keep dismantling the fence.
The decision dealt a stinging rebuke to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and was a win for states seeking to enforce border security on their own in the absence of help from the federal government.
More than 10 million immigrants have illegally entered the United States under President Joe Biden's policies, federal data shows.
"The Plaintiff preliminarily establishes that it would face irreparable harm without a temporary restraining order," Moses declared in an 11-page decision.
"The Court shall grant the temporary relief requested, with one important exception for any medical emergency that mostly likely results in serious bodily injury or death to a person, absent any boats or other life-saving apparatus available to avoid such medical emergencies prior to reaching the concertina wire barrier," the court added.

Appearing on the "Just the News, No Noise" television show, former Texas GOP Rep. Mayra Flores on Monday celebrated the decision, but insisted that addressing the surge in border crossings would require more substantial policy change.
"We need a border wall. But like I mentioned earlier, it's a policy problem," she said. "We can send funding resources and even hire more Border Patrol agents. But if we don't allow them to enforce the law, and we don't put in the right policies, this humanitarian crisis is not going to stop and it's now a national security crisis."
"I believe that we're going to continue to see numbers, high numbers of people crossing illegally into our country, because the Biden administration continues to encourage illegal immigration," she continued. "And while the people in Venezuela and Latin America and all over the world keep hearing that if they come here to the United States, they will be allowed to stay, they will continue to come and once they're here, they'll claim asylum, and it hurts those people who actually do have a legitimate asylum claim, because the majority are claiming asylum."

Smuggling ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS into the U.S. is now a $13B a year business

Over the past decade, smuggling illegal immigrants into the U.S. has evolved from a scattered network of freelance, independent human smugglers known as coyotes into an organized crime-controlled $13 billion a year business.

According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), while smuggling illegal immigrants is a "gross violation of a country's border and immigration laws," it is not a violation of a person's human rights because the "smuggling" includes consent by the individuals to be moved across a border in exchange for payment over the facilitation of the service.

George Mason University smuggling expert Guadalupe Correa-Cabrera said the service fees typically range from $4,000 for migrants coming from Latin America to $20,000 if they must be moved from Africa, Asia or Eastern Europe.

For years, cartels were paid a "tax" by coyotes so they could move migrants through territories they controlled along the border. By 2019, organized criminal syndicates like drug cartels turned to migrant smuggling, which was far more profitable because of the sheer number of people seeking to move into the United States.

Social media misinformation, end of Title 42 fuel rise of migrant smuggling

A report by the Tech Transparency Project (TTP) has revealed that many illegal immigrants were lured to go to the U.S. by individuals posting misinformation on social media platforms like Facebook. These individuals promised to help illegal immigrants gain entry to the U.S. – only to steal their money or abandon them in dangerous situations.

Meta, Facebook's parent company, has done nothing to stop the spread of false or misleading information about conditions along the route to the United States. TTP Director Katie Paul said: "The misinformation has led people in the region to think it's a lot easier to get into the United States than it is in reality."

The report, which includes migrant interviews and anecdotes, stated: "Some of the false information posted online about environmental conditions appeared to influence survey respondents' decision-making about their own migration attempts."

The end of Title 42 in May has also boosted the migrant smuggling business. Introduced by the Trump administration, Title 42 authorized the immediate expulsion of those caught crossing the border illegally without an asylum hearing to protect the U.S. from potential carriers of the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19).

Following the Title 42's expiration, former Mexican police officer Ed Calderon said: "It's like Christmas for these migrant smugglers right now and it's out in the open."

Calderon, who specializes in the border's underworld, noted that migrant detentions have fallen by 70 percent. He added that the abundance of propaganda about many migrants successfully crossing the border without being detained has allowed smugglers to increase their "service" fees.

Meanwhile, the House Committee on Homeland Security has found that 95.8 percent of illegal aliens who requested appointments through the mobile app launched by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for immigrants in recent months were released into the U.S. on parole with a Notice to Appear (NTA). (Related: 95.8% of ILLEGAL ALIENS using CBP One app released into the U.S.)

That translates to more than 266,000 out of more than 278,000 illegals who requested appointments through the CBP One app from Jan. 12 to Sept. 30, based on documents provided to the committee by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

The committee is particularly concerned about the abuse of the app by drug cartels. "The national security implications are that the cartels are just able to manipulate everything that the DHS is doing to continue their operations," a committee source who requested anonymity told the Epoch Times.
