Obama Drafts Van Jones as Green Jobs Adviser

A previous version of this post stated that Van Jones will be in charge of stimulus funds dedicated to green job creation. Jones will instead be working with agencies and departments to advance the administration's climate and energy initiatives.
Author, activist and think tank fellow Van Jones will be joining the Obama administration next week as a special adviser on green jobs, reported the White House Council on Environmental Quality today. Jones will work with agencies and departments to advance the administration's climate and energy initiatives, with a special focus on improving vulnerable communities, according to a White House statement. Jones is the founder of "Green For All," an environmental group dedicated to bringing green jobs to the disadvantaged, and the author of "The Green Col
lar Economy." Environmental groups are, of course, thrilled with the decision - in their opinion, no one knows green jobs like Van Jones.

But there are a few questions raised - first, about the role of Hilda Solis, Secretary of Labor. A proponent of green jobs, it was thought that the responsibility would fall to her, but Climate Progress (a blog run by Jones' think tank, the Center for American Progress) assures us that, yes, both positions are necessary. "The Labor Secretary can’t tell any other Cabinet officer or agency what to do — so if you want to coordinate a crosscutting initiative that affects so many different departments, including energy, EPA, Commerce, and so on — you need to do this out of the White House." His title, by the way, does not contain the word 'Czar' - another issue raised by the Wall Street Journal regarding 'Czar fatigue.'

Jones has long been a proponent of environmental justice. He, along with other advocates like Majora Carter, try to raise aw
areness of the fact that the communities most hurt by unsustainable practices are often the poorest. Jones told Mother Jones Magazine last year:

"The only reason that we have the unsustainable accounting that we have right now is because incinerators, dumping grounds, and sacrifice zones were put where poor people live. It would never have been allowed if you had to put all the incinerators and nasty stuff in rich people's neighborhoods; we'd have had a sustainable economy a long time ago... We don't want to be first and worst with all the toxins and all the negative effects of global warming, and then benefit last and least from all the breakthroughs in solar, wind energy, organic food, all the positives. We want an equal share, an equitable share, of the work wealth and the benefits of the transition to a green economy."

Another two favorite quotes from Jones come from his speech at the Power Shift weekend last month:

"We could power the country with clean coal, or we could have unic
orns pull our cars for us."

"If women are making 75 cents to a dollar in our green economy, something is wrong with it."

Obama's Green Jobs Czar Van Jones: Republicans Are "A**holes"

Van Jones, Special Advisor for Green Jobs, the White House Council on Environmental Quality. February 11, 2009, Berkeley, CA. From a lecture Jones gave at the 2nd Annual Berkeley Energy & Resources Collaborative (BERC) event.

Notice the help he gets from the Jew...while she is sucking his ass--multi-tasking at its' finest.

This Van Jones character Obama picked as his "Green Jobs" Czar is a real professional--Professional Nigger, that is.

The Presidential Election sucked and anybody that could reason and understood the facts would naturally despise Republicans, but white voters still cannot betray their race for any reason. It was a profound error to empower a GD nigger--one that America may not recover from. With Representative Rangel and Czar Van Jones and Attorney General Eric Holder in position, they will not hesitate to invert the all the power of the U.S. Judiciary (Courts and Prisons) and the Legislative (Congress) Branches against whites (The Nigger certainly has control of the Executive Branch already) and most of it will be nothing more than "pay back".

And it IS payback: Affirmative Action Payback. Time for America to get its' money's worth.

nThose of you who voted for the Head Nappy-Headed Baboon must be real proud with Obama's choices of Nappy-Headed Fools and the way that things are panning out--if they don't work, why, it's because America is racist and won't give Obama a chance. No matter what is accomplished or failed to be accomplished, some Offical Porch Monkey will ALWAYS play the race card. Welcome to the Big Swirl...

Van Jones and Family

Obama’s Czars are growing in numbers by the month. It is interesting, if not frightening, to look at their backgrounds, their beliefs, and the energy with which they approach their determination to change America. One such example is a black man who rose quickly to prominence within the community organizer movement. Van Jones is married to a white woman, is lauded by Leonardo DiCaprio, yet insists on decentering whiteness. It appears that Jones is doing just that on a very personal level. Although his group is fronted by “saving the environment organizations”, their theme,
by some, is highly weighted by an insistence on the abolishment of the white race.

Hmmmm. Since Van Jones' kids are half white, I suppose that means they'd only shoot half as many kids at school. Or, more likely, they rob and rape the kids they shot before AND after they shot them...

Under Fire, Presidential Adviser Van Jones Resigns

In a letter released just after midnight Saturday, Van Jones, President Obama's Special Advisor for Green Jobs at the Council on Environmental Quality resigned.

"On the eve of historic fights for health care and clean energy, opponents of reform have mounted a vicious smear campaign against me," Jones wrote. "They are using lies and distortions to distract and divide."

Jones said that he had "been inundated with calls - from across the political spectrum - urging me to "stay and fight. But I came here to fight for others, not for myself. I cannot in good conscience ask my colleagues to expend precious time and energy defending or explaining my past. We need all hands on deck, fighting for the future."

A best-selling author who has been heralded as an innovativ
e thinker in the "green jobs" movement, Jones had come under fire from conservative media and lawmakers for past statements for which he apologized Thursday.

The tipping point for the White House appeared to be Jones' admission earlier this week that he had signed a petition in 2004 calling for congressional hearings and an investigation by the New York Attorney General into "evidence that suggests high-level government officials may have deliberately allowed the September 11th attacks to occur."

In a statement issued Thursday evening Jones said of "the petition that was circulated today, I do not agree with this statement and it certainly does not reflect my views now or ever."

An administration source said Jones says he did not carefully review the language in the petition before agreeing to add his name.

But after that admission, asked if Jones enjoyed the confidence of the president, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs would only say on Fridat that Jones "continues to wo
rk in this administration."

A former civil rights activist in the San Francisco area, Jones told the East Bay Express in 2005 that the acquittal of Rodney King's assailants in 1992 in that infamous police brutality case changed him significantly.

"I was a rowdy nationalist on April 28th, and then the verdicts came down on April 29th," he said. "By August, I was a communist."

Jones and other young activists in 1994 formed a group called Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement, or STORM, rooted in Marxism and Leninsm. Two years later, Jones launched the Ella Baker Center, an Oakland, Calif., based "strategy and action center" which states that it tries to "promote positive alternatives to violence and incarceration."

It was many of the associations formed around this time that served as fodder for conservative critics. In a New Yorker profile of Jones from earlier this year, Jones described his modus operandi as “traditional activism, the politics of confrontation a
nd outrage. I was proud to be hated by the city fathers on both sides of the Bay.â┚¬

Over time, Jones focused instead as environmental jobs as a way to lift struggling communities out of poverty, work for which he's been praised as an innovator. Former Vice President Gore told the New Yorker: “I love Van Jones. I love his work. I love his heart and his commitment and his intellect. I love his mission. He has wisely picked a part of this set of interwoven challenges that should have been addressed much more forcefully by me and others long ago.â┚¬

But even as Jones lowered his profile in his new position as President Obama's "Green Jobs Czar," critics questioned comments he'd made in his previous incarnation as an activist and advocate for poor and minority communities. What seemed to hurt Jones the most politically, however, was the discovery of his name on the 9/11 "Truther" petition, which suggested President Bush or those in his administration at the very least allowed 9/11 to happen so
as to launch wars for oil.

Having expended much time and energy discrediting conservative conspiracy theorists alleging (despite all evidence) that the President was not born in the U.S., and the non-existent "death panels," White House officials found it difficult to justify a top adviser who had associated with similarly fringe sentiments from the Left.

Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., chairman of the House Republican Conference, said on Friday that given "recent revelations concerning the associations and statements of the president's green jobs czar, Van Jones should resign his position and if he is unwilling to do so, the president should demand his resignation. His extremist views and coarse rhetoric have no place in this Administration or the public debate."

Republicans made it clear that they intended to use Jones as Exhibit A in a political prosecution that the Obama Administration has too many "czars" -- unconfirmed by the Senate, with too much power.

Sen. Kit Bond, R-Mo., ranki
ng Republican on the Green Jobs and the New Economy Subcommittee of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, called for a hearing probing Jones' fitness for the job.

Jones, Bond said, "is responsible for directing administration policy and spending on tens of billions of dollars in taxpayer funding regarding environmental policy and green jobs programs. However, since the White House appointed him as a 'czar,' Mr. Jones was able to avoid any oversight or confirmation by the U.S. Senate."

Bond said he was alarmed by Jones' name on the 9/11 "Truther" petition. "Jones in hindsight is embarrassed by the public disclosure of his participation in the petition drive and now asserts he did not read the fine print of the petition," the senator said. "But can the American people trust a senior White House official that is so cavalier in his association with such radical and repugnant sentiments?â┚¬

How The Right "Smeared" Van Jones Without Chaining Behind A Pick-Up

The story of how the President's Special Advisor for Green Jobs became the biggest, scariest villain of the right wing (this week, anyway) is also the story of how the right wing information delivery process works now.

Here's the biography of Van Jones: he was a bookish black kid from Tennessee who went to Yale Law and moved to San Francisco and became a radical. Then he decided to use his law degree and smarts to clean up and make things better from inside the establishment.

He was, he openly acknowledges, a "full-on Marxist" in early '90s California. He joined a revolutionary Marxist group and protested police brutality. Then he founded the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, which combats over-incarceration, police brutality, and urban poverty and violence.

Running a civil rights group dedicated to producing real and immediate improvements in urban life will make a revolutionary Marxist a bit more pragmatic. Jones began focusing on job creation, and, with a bit of prognostic intuition that ought to put Thomas Friedman to shame, he decided, in the late-'90s, to focus on "Green Jobs." This is, you know, capitalism—he wants to create wealth, and use market forces to make the world and black communities better places!

And in 2008 he wrote a book called The Green Collar Economy, and it made the Times best-seller list, making him as much of a figure of the mainstream as Sean Hannity or Malcolm Gladwell.

So here we have a radical youth turned respectable liberal. Respectable enough to be on Time magazine listicles and win World Economic Forum prizes and everything. Respectable enough for Tom Friedman to profile him. And The New Yorker. Respectable enough for Meg Whitman, as in former eBay CEO and wealthy Republican California gubernatorial
candidate and John McCain advisor Meg Whitman, to proclaim herself "a huge fan of Van Jones."

And for both his activism and his charm he was rewarded with a White House job with the Council on Environmental Quality. He was tasked with making sure stimulus money for green jobs actually went to green jobs. And he's a great person to have in this administration—he is a genuine environmentalist and the only special interest he's beholden to is poor people. He is the sort of person we were all praying Obama would bring with him to DC, instead of Larry Summers.

And that is one of the reasons he is now being ritually and savagely demonized.

To understand why and how he's being demonized, we have to look at the way information and misinformation makes it way from crazy blogs to crazy pundits to crazy citizens to, suddenly, the non-crazy regular media.

The "why" is simple: he is a genuine left-wing liberal with a White House job. He is black. He used to be radical, and probably sti
ll has radical sympathies (you know, caring about poor black people and all that). He is, in other words, ****ing terrifying, if you frame his story right.

World Net Daily is an old and hugely popular far-right conspiracy "news" website. We've discussed their promotion and popularization of the birther conspiracy but both their influence and insanity cannot be understated. They have a huge email list. The people on that list click on ads and spend money. WND is almost as profitable as Gawker Media. The RNC needs access to that list. So they humor them. And they sponsor them.

And these are the people who insist that there will be FEMA concentration camps and a NAFTA superhighway and a single North American currency and, yes, it is birther central.

WND discovered Jones in April. They took publicly available information about Jones' civil rights past, his arrest at a Rodney King protest (he was not charged with anything because it was one of those illegal but common mass arrests) and his o
wn statements about his youthful radicalism and made a scary, scary story called "Will a 'red' help blacks go green?" Wow, right? And, yes, these were not secrets—remember the Friedman and New Yorker profiles?

Dave Weigel explains how this all snowballed in The Washington Independent: On July 23, Glenn Beck talked about this "self-avowed communist" he discovered in the Obama administration. He brought him up again and again and again over the next month, until his amazing late-August week-long series almost entirely about how Van Jones and Van Jones alone is proof that Obama has a goon squad of violent leftists looking to remake the country as some sort of collectivist Soviet Republic.

Here is the message machine in its platonic form: Glenn Beck introduces his audience to a group Jones once belonged to called "The Apollo Alliance" on August 24th. 72 hours later a constituent is asking his (Republican) representative if this Apollo Alliance wrote the health care bill. The Rep has no idea
what the guy is talking about, but the rest of the audience certainly does ("Van Jones!" they shout).

And now, here we are. His name on an old 9/11 truther petition is dredged up. An amusing clip in which he calls Republicans *******s (but explains that he, too, is an *******) is on CBS News. Jake Tapper and Politico are on the case.

That is how a smear becomes a meme. Schoolhouse Rock, 2009 style.

Take this:

The tipping point for the White House appeared to be Jones' admission earlier this week that he had signed a petition in 2004 calling for congressional hearings and an investigation by the New York Attorney General into "evidence that suggests high-level government officials may have deliberately allowed the September 11th attacks to occur."

AND add this:

Here's the biography of Van Jones: he was a bookish black kid from Tennessee who went to Yale Law

And throw in this:

Van Jones said in an interview yesterday after he announced his resignation that he didn't read the petition.

And ask this question:

How is it that a highly-educated YALE LAW GRADUATE ATTORNEY fail to read ANYTHING before
he signed it UNLESS that person is a recipient of AFFIRMATIVE ACTION PROGRAMMING and his ivy-league education and diplomas were awarded to him just because he is a DUMB-ASS NIGGER?

Clean that question up ever how you want to, but ask that question until it is answered. It is just further evidence that Affirmative Action Programs ensure that you really never know the true level of education of a person that has benefited from those kinds of programs. If the white failing grade is not equal to the black failing grade, then the entire system is NOT RELIABLE, CANNOT be reliable, and IS A COMPLETE FRAUD because none of the resulting variables have any basis in fact and cannot possibly be valid.

Again:

Affirmative Action educational programs do not ensure reliable results, have no basis in fact, are not valid and are a complete fraud. Keep this in mind when you need an attorney, a physician, a surgeon, or a pharmacist and these "professionals" turn out to be black, or one of the choices on
the ballot is a nigger. Vote or hire a nigger and you get what the government paid for....

It's interesting how there are so many militant niggers that are married to white women. Hmmm. Professor Nigger Gates from Harvard comes to mind too.

It's interesting how there are so many militant niggers that are married to white women. Hmmm. Professor Nigger Gates from Harvard comes to mind too.

Yea, only the best for our niggers.

(Or the best of the worst - however one wants to phrase it).

I know one thing (and I'll phrase this myself) --- > NIGGERS MAKE ME SICK!!!!

Van Jones and Family
DIVORCED COMMUNIST A$$HOLE WHO HATES WHITE PEOPLE. Ignores Obama's communist roots.
Just another house negro fed by the shysters.
Never addresses blacks and drugs, stolen guns, stolen cars or everyday black criminality.
My conclusion? Educated but still a willfully ignorant nigger.
IGNORES the huge African American Mafia involvement with cartels in drug sales and drug/arms trafficking.

Yet he
Jones founded Advocates for Opioid Recovery together with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and former Rep.Patrick J. Kennedy.[66]

Soros' MoveOn negro.

In June 2011, Jones worked with MoveOn.org to launch the Rebuild the Dream campaign, which was intended to start a progressive American Dream movement to counter the Tea Party movement.[58]

In 2015, Jones launched #cut50, an organization focused on bi-partisan solutions to criminal justice reform issues. In March 2015 #cut50 hosted a "bi-partisan summit" with Republican Newt Gingrich, former Speaker of the House, to promote bi-partisan solutions.[98] Their goals are to reduce prison populations, as the US has the highest rate of incarceration in the world, and to end mandatory minimum sentencing and mandatory lengthy sentences for certain crimes. Because the USA has 40 million blacks, about 40% are small brained smooth brained mentally deficient violent feral swamp creatures UNFIT FOR A CIVILIZED SOCIETY, like NNN sees every single day AND, it is getting worse with immigration unchecked.

In November 2015, #cut50 gained the support of singer Alicia Keys.[99] In 2016, Keys made a video appeal to Congressman Paul Ryan asking him to "be her Valentine" and of course Paul Ryan became a sucker and commit to giving legislation on criminal justice reform a vote.[100] Ryan made this commitment days later. #cut50 received additional celebrity support from "100 A-List celebrities"[101] including Amy Schumer, Steph Curry, Edward Norton, Jesse Williams, Chris Pine, Russell Simmons, Shonda Rhimes, Russell Brand, Jessica Chastain, and Piper Kerman.[102]

In May 2018, Jones and other members of #cut50 met with Jared Kushner and President Donald Trump at the White House to discuss a criminal justice reform bill.[103]

The First Step Act

Working with the Trump White House and Kim Kardashian, Jones and #cut50 were involved in helping to pass the First Step Act,[104] a criminal justice reform bill The New York Times called "the most substantial changes in a generation" to national crime and sentencing laws.[105]

REFORM Alliance

In 2019, Jones was announced as the CEO of REFORM Alliance, an initiative founded by Jay-Z, Meek Mill, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft among others.[106] The initiative aims to reform the criminal justice system, and has received funding from Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey.[107]

Magic Labs Media

Magic Labs Media is a media company founded and owned by Jones.[108] In 2016, it produced The Messy Truth miniseries, which won a Webby Award,[109] and in 2020 it produced The Messy Truth VR experience, which won an Emmy Award.[110] In 2021, the weekly podcast "Uncommon Ground with Van Jones" began.[111]

March for Israel

On November 14, 2023, Jones attended the March for Israel in Washington, D.C. He called for a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas.[112]
2021 – Recipient of inaugural Courage and Civility Award from Jeff Bezos at press conference following Blue Origin's first human flight (includes US$100 million to distribute to non-profit organizations of Jones' choice)[129]

Glenn Beck criticized Jones for his support of Mumia Abu-Jamal, a death row inmate convicted of killing a police officer.[113]

Jones was accused of having a conflict of interest for running a PR firm called Megaphone Strategies which openly lobbies electoral college electors not to cast their vote for Donald Trump.[114]

Liberals criticized Jones for working with Jared Kushner
on police reform and criminal justice reform. Jones covered the matter on CNN and failed to disclose this to his viewers.[115][116]

VAN JONES' RADICAL PAST

The SPEAKER pro tempore. Under a previous order of the House, the
gentleman from Indiana (Mr. Burton) is recognized for 5 minutes.
Mr. BURTON of Indiana. Madam Speaker, one of the important functions
of a President is to make sure that the people he puts into important
positions have no real background problems that will cause the
administration to founder. This administration, this President, has
appointed a whole bunch of czars and special assistants to the
President, and they really haven't been vetted. They haven't been
checked out thoroughly.
One of those is a gentleman who was appointed a special environmental
adviser to the President. And, Mr. Jones, who we have all heard about
in the last few days, has been found to be an admitted radical
communist and leader.
Now, that does not reflect well on the
administration, and it does not reflect well on the entire Government
of the United States because we are not supportive of the communist
philosophy.
Now, Mr. Jones said that he was slandered when he resigned, and that
was the reason he resigned. So tonight I would like to put some things
in the Record that show exactly why he should not have been appointed
in the first place. And I think it's important that my colleagues
understand that these czars and these people that are being appointed
really need to be properly vetted. And we certainly don't want people
that have a radical agenda being put in positions of leadership.
Jones was a founder and leader of the communist revolutionary
organization called Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary
Movement, or STORM.
That organization had its roots in a grouping of
black people organizing to protest the first Gulf War. STORM was
formally founded in 1994, becoming one of the most influential and
active radical groups in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The leftist blog Machete 48 identifies STORM's influences as ``third-
world Marxism (an often vulgar Maoism).''

Speaking to the East Bay Express, Jones said he first became
radicalized in the wake of the 1992 Rodney King riots, during which
time he was arrested. He said, ``I was a rowdy nationalist on April 28,
and then the verdicts came down on April 29. By August, I was a
communist.
``I met all of these young radical people of color--I mean really
radical: communists and anarchists. And it was, like, `This is what I
need to be a part of.' I spent the next 10 years of my life working
with a lot of those people I met in jail, trying to be a
revolutionary.''
Trevor Loudon, a communist researcher and administrator of the New
Zeal Blog, identified several Bay Area communists who worked with
STORM, including Elizabeth Martinez, who helped advise Jones' Ella
Baker Human Rights Center, which Jones founded to advocate civil
justice. Jones and Martinez also attended a ``Challenging White
Supremacy'' workshop together challenging white supremacy.
Martinez was a long-time Maoist who went on to join the Communist
Party USA breakaway organization Committees of Correspondence for
Democracy and Socialism, the CCDS, in the early 1990s. According to
Loudon, Martinez still serves on the CCDS council and is

[[Page 21104]]

also a board member of the Movement for a Democratic Society, where she
sits alongside former Weathermen radicals Bill Ayers and Bernadine
Dorhn.
One of STORM's newsletters featured a tribute to Amilcar Cabral, the
late Marxist revolutionary leader of Guinea-Bissau and the Cape Verde
Islands. The tribute is noteworthy because Jones reportedly named his
son after Cabral and repeatedly concludes every e-mail with a quote
from the communist leader.
Jones then, of course, moved on to environmentalism, and that's the
position that he took with the administration. But there is no question
he is a radical and a member of the Communist Party and has been for a
long time and supported their goals and approaches to government.
So I just would like to say, if I were talking to the President
tonight, Mr. President, please be careful who you are appointing to
these positions of leadership. It's important for the country; it's
important for your administration and the image of the United States
throughout the world as a beacon of freedom, justice and democracy.
