Spartanburg Co. man charged with lying about sexual assault by deputy

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – A Spartanburg County man has been charged for allegedly lying about being sexually assaulted by a sheriff’s deputy.
According to the State Law Enforcement Division, Crain Ninja Antonio Brewton, 35, has been charged by SLED with two counts of Filing a False Police Report for a felony.
According to SLED, on October 20, 2023, Brewton allegedly went to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office to file a pair of complaints against deputies, claiming he had been physically and sexually assaulted during arrests in September 2022 and October 2023.
SLED investigated the reports and said it found the accusations to be false. The department also said it found a “demand letter” from Brewton to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office for $444,000,000.
The county’s public safety annual budget is $83.9 million.
During the complaint process, Brewton acknowledge a disclaimer stating making false complaints is a violation of state law.
Brewton was booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center.
