NEW GLARUS (WKOW) -- A Madison man faces a possible first-degree reckless homicide charge in connection with an overdose death Wednesday in New Glarus.
Kerwin L. Harvey, 63, Madison, was arrested Thursday in Madison and taken to the the Green County Jail. He is waiting for a court appearance.
The investigation began Wednesday, April 8, about noon when New Glarus Police and EMS were called to a home in New Glarus in response to a report of an unresponsive person.
The person was pronounced dead at the scene after lifesaving measures were unsuccessful, according to a news release from the Green County Sheriff's Office and New Glarus Police Department.
During the investigation, law enforcement says they obtained evidence leading them to believe the death was opioid related.
Investigators say they also learned that Harvey was suspected of supplying the opioids to the victim.
On Thursday, April 9, at 9 a.m.., deputies, along with a Lafayette County Sheriff’s Deputy, agents from the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation, agents from the Dane County Narcotics Task Force and Madison Police Department found Harvey in a business parking lot on the east side of the City of Madison and arrested him.
This incident remains under investigation by New Glarus Police Department, the Green County Sheriff’s Office and the Green County Coroner’s Office. Additional information won’t be disclosed until next week.
