DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. – DeKalb County authorities detained several individuals and arrested a man after they responded to a person shot call on Saturday, February 10, and discovered that a 3-year-old boy had died. At approximately 7:00 AM, the toddler reportedly sustained a gunshot wound to his face after accidentally firing the unsecured gun.
His mother rushed him from the Habersham Drive home to the hospital, where medical staff pronounced him deceased.

Detectives determined Antoine Jordan to be the gun’s owner and charged him with second-degree murder and second-degree child cruelty before transporting him to the DeKalb County Jail.
Law enforcement has not yet disclosed Jordan’s relationship to the child. This case is pending in court.
As reported by 11 Alive, a recent study conducted by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) stated that “76% of unintentional firearm deaths among children and teenagers in the United States involved a gun that was stored and unlocked. 91% of those unlocked firearms were loaded.

67% of those deaths happened when the shooter was playing with the firearm or showing it to others.”
