CHICAGO (CBS 2) Police issued an arrest warrant Thursday afternoon for the killer of 21-year-old Melissa Dorner. The search is now on for Roberto Ramirez, 24, who lived in the same building as Dorner at 6151 N. Winthrop Av. in the Edgewater neighborhood.

Ramirez is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, according to police News Affairs Sgt. Robert Cargie.

Neighbors have said they don't believe Dorner knew Ramirez,
except in passing.

Police say Ramirez has a criminal history. One of Ramirez's roomates, who said he did not know him well, fears that he is still on the loose.

A police source told the paper that neighbors saw the man in the building over the weekend and he had been splattered in blood.

Just last year, Dorner was the victim of an attempted attack in Lincoln Park, and she moved to Edgewater seeking safety.

A memorial of flowers and photos is growing for the young woman, but that doesn't mean neighbors feel safe.

"I don't know what to do," resident Donald Smith said. "I'm thinking about moving."

Dorner was found dead Monday evening in her apartment at a high-rise building located at 6151 N. Winthrop in the Edgewater neighborhood.

A friend found her lying on the floor, unresponsive. She was
strangled to death and was also severely beaten in the head, according to the medical examiner's office.

The last time anybody heard from Dorner was Saturday night.

Your right , Brewski. Like every other murdering spic. Once a murder has been committed they skip right back south of the border. Even if they are caught , the spics don't like the death penalty or even life without parole so they won't extradite them back.

Suspect In Woman's Slaying Returned From Mexico

A man police said murdered a 21-year-old woman in 2005 was brought back to the United States just days ago. Melissa Dorner was killed inside her Edgewater apartment building in January 2005. Soon after that Roberto Ramirez -- the man police say murdered her -- fled to Mexico. Ramirez is in the United States again, brought back from Mexico by authorities.

On what would have been Dorner's 23rd birthday, her mother received a call from prosecutors telling her the man charged with killing Dorner would soon be returned to the U.S. Mary Pat Dorner, Melissa Dorner's mother, said she never thought she would be this close to seeing justice served. Prosecutors once told her the man accused of murdering her then 21-year-old daughter might never
be found.

Melissa Dorner worked as a restaurant hostess when she was robbed and beaten to death. Her bludgeoned body was discovered in her Edgewater apartment building.

Police are accusing Ramirez, her 24-year-old neighbor at the time, of her murder. Ramirez disappeared after telling his roommates he had done something bad and was leaving for Mexico, police said. Ramirez was on the run for almost a year, police said. He was arrested in Mexico in January and returned to U.S. authorities Friday.
