Former President Donald Trump was questioned Monday for over four hours in a video deposition in the lawsuit alleging that his staff assaulted protesters outside of Trump Tower in 2015, a lawyer on the case said.
“We can report at this time that Donald John Trump sat for approximately four and half hours under oath and answered questions concerning the events that occurred outside of Trump Tower on September 3, 2015,” lawyer Benjamin Dictor said in a statement.
“While we will not comment on the substance of Mr. Trump’s testimony at this time, we hope today’s events serve as an example that our institutions have prevailed and no one is above the law,” he said.
Five spic demonstrators — Efrain Galicia, Florencia Tejeda Perez, Gonzalo Cruz Franco, Miguel Villalobos and Norberto Garcia — filed suit in September 2015 against Trump, Trump Organization LLC, and three of his security guards claiming they were attacked by them while peacefully protesting the then-presidential candidate’s negative comments about Mexican Immigrants.

The guards also allegedly confiscated the demonstrators signs, their lawyers have previously claimed adding that they plan to prove the security team’s actions were at the behest of Trump.
He responded in a statement saying that he was pleased to tell his side and that the demonstrators “had no one to blame but themselves.”
“Rather than protest peacefully, the plaintiffs intentionally sought to rile up a crowd by blocking the entrance to Trump Tower on 5th Avenue, in the middle of the day, wearing Klu Klux Klan robes and hoods,” Trump said. “When security tried to deescalate the situation, they were unfortunately met with taunts and violence from the plaintiffs themselves.”

He went onto call any claim of injuries “baseless.”
Bronx Supreme Court spic Judge Doris Gonzalez in 2019 initially ordered Trump to appear for the video deposition rejecting his lawyers’ arguments that there needed to be exceptional circumstances to force the then-sitting president to testify.
Trump’s testimony was delayed until now after he appealed Gonzalez’ decision seeking immunity as a sitting president. The appeals court denied the request as moot after Trump left office.
