ASSOCIATED PRESS NORMAN, Okla. -- Jury selection is to begin today in Cleveland County District Court in the murder trial of a man suspected of killing a University of Oklahoma dance student.
Anthony Sanchez is charged with 1st degree murder, kidnapping rape and sodomy in the December 1996 death of OU graduate Juli Busken of Benton, Arkansas.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. Sanchez was in prison on an unrelated burglary conviction wh

en he was charged in September 2004 after DNA evidence l
inked
him to the murder scene.
Authorities say Busken was kidnapped from the parking lot of her apartment complex in the early morning hours of December 20th, 1996. Her body was found later that day at Lake Stanley Draper.

NORMAN, Okla. -- The gunshot that killed University of Oklahoma dance student Jewell "Juli" Busken came from a weapon that was touching her skin when it was fired, a forensic pathologist testified Thursday at the trial of the man accused of killing her more than nine years ago.

Anthony Castillo Sanchez, 27, has pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping, sodomy and rape in the death Busken, 21, of Benton, Ark. Sanchez was charged in 2004 after prosecutors said DNA evidence connected him to the murder scene.

Busken was found shot to death on the southeast shore of Lake Stanley Draper 12 hours after she disappeared from her Norman apartment complex.

Dr. John Parker, formerly with the state medical examiner's office,
said Bu
sken's body also showed signs of a sexual assault. Parker said he found scrapes on Busken's face and bruises on her genital area when he performed an autopsy the day after she was found.

A .22-caliber bullet was removed from her head. She'd been shot behind her left ear, he said.

Judge Agrees To Death Sentence For Ballerina's Killer

A Norman subhuman p.o.s. convicted of raping and killing a University of Oklahoma ballet student from Arkansas nearly a decade ago was formally sentenced to death Tuesday.

Cleveland County District Judge William Hetherington agreed to a jury's recommendations that 27-year-old Anthony Castillo Sanchez be put to death for his crimes. (See story link.)

Cleveland County Assistant District Attorney Rick Sitzman said Sanchez also was sentenced to 40 years for first-degree rape and 20 years for sodomy.

Sanchez was convicted in the 1996 death of Jewell "Juli" Busken, who was from Benton.
