PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — Two teenagers were charged and arrested on Sunday accused of injuring bicyclists after throwing bricks at them in NE Portland.

Adrian Richardson, 26, contacted police after being struck in the face by a brick near NE 7th Avenue and Tillamook Street just before 1:30 a.m. Richardson was hit so hard he had to be taken to the hospital.

Police said the located the suspects at NE Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Knott Street a short time later and took them into to custody.

Two other bicyclists also had broken pieces of brick thrown on them. Jonathan Garris, 52, was struck in one of his legs, while Peter Buri, 27, had one thrown at him but was not struck.

The suspects, 15-year-olds Marquise Murphy and Robert Hudgens, were charged with assault in the second and third degree. Police said the teens’ names were released because the assault in the second degree charge is a Measure 11.

Both were lodged at the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Home.

Hudgens will be charged as an adult in the case, but Murphy will not, police said. It was unclear why both were not being charged as adults.
