Teen in custody after quadruple shooting in Detroit

A 16-year-old was arrested in connection to a quadruple shooting in Detroit last week that wounded two kids and two 18-year-old women, including one who was pregnant.

DETROIT (FOX 2) - A 16-year-old was taken into custody as Detroit police continue investigating a quadruple shooting that happened in a local park last week.

Two children and two 18-year-old women were injured after gunfire broke out when an argument escalated into something more violent late night on April 30.

Chief James White said in the late afternoon on May 6 that a juvenile had been detained while another person-of-interest was on police's radar as they continue investigating the shooting.

The two children injured in the shooting, ages 3 and 6, are expected to make a full recovery. The two adult women who were injured, including one who is pregnant, remain in critical condition.

White declined to go into detail about the suspect's connection to the victims, confirming only that he was the suspect shooter. Police previously said one of the women in the original altercation had called someone who later showed up with a firearm.

"I wanted the community to know that no one else is at risk. When you get a quadruple shooting, you get a lot of calls with people saying 'what's going on with the arrest, is anyone in custody?'" White said. "Those are valid questions. We will certainly provide as much as we can once the prosecutor chimes in."

The shooting happened at Stein Park between Joy Road and W. Chicago on the city's west side.

Quadruple shooting investigation continues

Detroit police returned to the scene of a quadruple shooting Thursday to continue canvassing for evidence and any security footage that may aid them in their investigation of who open fired on a park Wednesday night.

DETROIT (FOX 2) - The two 18-year-old victims that were shot in a Detroit park late Wednesday night remain in serious condition as Detroit police continue searching for the suspects involved in the quadruple shooting.

Of the four that were shot, two were kids that were uninvolved in the altercation that escalated into violence at Stein Park around 8:30 p.m. One of the 18-year-old victims still hospitalized is pregnant.

Officers returned to the scene near Joy Road and W. Chicago on Thursday afternoon to continue canvassing for evidence as well as getting any home security footage that could help their investigation.

The shooters have yet to be identified.

According to police, an argument between two women turned violent when one of the parties called a friend to the area. The person who arrived pulled out a gun and started shooting, wounding four people.

The blast of violence unnerved neighbors who heard the gunfire. One resident ran over to the park to help one of the victims.

"One of the girls was drowning in her own blood. I took my shirt off and put it up under her head to tried and patch the hole where she got shot in the face," said Donte, who tried helping one of the victims.

Along with returning to the scene, police brought K-9 units and expanded their investigation area to include Cody High School.
