SWARTZ CREEK - Late Saturday afternoon, Elms Road Park was a typical sunny spring scene of family picnics and children climbing the playground equipment. It could have been quite different if a racist rally intended by a Swartz Creek student had gone according to plan.
School officials on Wednesday confiscated a flier a student had planned to circulate to enlist other students in a racial protest at the park Saturday. The student has been suspended for 10 days. School administrators and Swartz Creek police have been jointly investigating, according to a letter sent home to parents Friday by high school Principal Michael Vanderlip.
Some black families in the district are worried the student might be allowed to return.
