Coach accused of rape is released

ALBUQUERQUE -- A former high school basketball coach in Albuquerque accused of sexually abusing a female player has been released from jail.
After posting 100-thousand dollars' bond, Daniel Simmons was released yesterday.

According to his attorney, Simmons is heading back to Texas. The 45-year old was arrested last month at his Houston home, and then extradited to Albuquerque.

Simmons, a former Rio Grande High School girls basketball coach, is charged with second-degree criminal sexual penetration of a minor from a person in a position of authority.

He's also charged with third-degree cri
minal sexual contact of a minor from a person in a position of authority and criminal sexual penetration force or c
oercion.

An arrest warrant says a Rio Grande graduate alleged she was molested during her freshman year when she was 15. The warrant alleges the abuse continued until she graduated in 1998.
