A 36-year-old Whitinsville man was found guilty and sentenced yesterday on nine indictments related to the rape and sexual abuse of a female child, according to District Attorney John J. Conte's office.

Jose M. Arriaga, 36, of 10B St., was arrested in March on charges including distributing obscene material, posing a child in a state of nudity, delivering alcohol to a person under 21, indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 and five counts of statutory rape.

Judge Isaac Borenstein sentenced Arriaga to 11-15 years in prison with community parole upon release, according to the DA's office. Attorney Jeffrey T. Travers, of the DA's child abuse un
t, prosecuted the case.

Northbridge Police arrested Arriaga at his home in March following a two-week investigation. The charges covered a period ending June 2003.

Lieutenant Wal

ter Warchol of the Northbridge Police Departm
ent said yesterday that efforts from many sides helped bring Arriaga to justice.

"(The investigation) was a good coordinated effort by police, the courts and District Attorney's office to prosecute him," said Warchol.

Arriaga is divorced with six children, has been out of work for three years and lives with his brother, according to bar advocate Betsy Choate, who represented him in court this March.
