Jury Selection Begins In Rape Trial

Elderly Woman Sexually Attacked In Her Apartment

SAN ANTONIO -- It has been more than three years since a 69-year-old woman was raped repeatedly in her Northside apartment. Her attacker held her captive for six hours as he repeatedly sexually assaulted her.

Sinno Mohamad, 28, was later indicted in the case and faces five counts of aggravated sexual assault of the elderly. His lawyer plans to use an insanity defense once the trial begins.

Mohamad has had several psychological evaluations since the attack. The most recent evaluation was Tuesday morning just before jury selection began. He was determined mentally competent to stand trial.

Testimony is scheduled to begin Wednesday in Judge Raymond Angelini's 187th District Court.
