The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest made in a human trafficking investigation.
It is alleged that:
- on multiple occasions, a man physically assaulted a 28-year-old woman
- during one of the assaults, the woman sustained broken ribs
- the man placed the woman's photograph, as an advertisement, on Leolist.com
- the man forced the woman to work in the sex trade in the Greater Toronto Area
- the woman was forced to abide by the rules the man imposed on her
- the woman was forced to turn over all of her earnings to the man
- the man used deception, false promises, intimidation, fear, assaultive behaviour and threatened the woman’s family and pet to exercise control over her actions and movements
On Wednesday, January 23, 2019, investigators from the Toronto Police Sex Crimes - Human Trafficking Enforcement Team executed Criminal Code search warrants in the city of Toronto and the city of Brampton. The man was located and arrested without incident.
Justin Reuben Europe, 32, of Brampton, is charged with:
1. Trafficking in Persons by Exercising Control
2. Procuring
3. Material Benefit from Trafficking in Persons
4. Advertising another Person’s Sexual Service
5. Material Benefit from Sexual Services
6. Assault
7. Assault causing Bodily Harm
8. Two counts of Uttering Threats
9. Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Cocaine
10. Possession Proceeds of Crime
11. Fail to Comply with Recognizance
He was scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Thursday, January 24, 2019.
Police are concerned there may be more victims.
