So tell me, what about the violence, stress, aggrovation, and low self esteeme that women inflict upon men?

FLINT - Mary Hopkins of Flint does not take night courses at Mott Community College, but she has friends who do. And she's glad to hear the college is acting to keep students safer.

The campus plans to install emergency phones and lights in campus parking structures.

University of Michigan-Flint students also will get new safety features on campus, including security cameras in addition to the current emergency phones and lights.

It's all due to a $405,000 U.S. Department of Justice grant aimed at eliminating violence against women.

The schools and their safety departments are teaming up with the YWCA, the Flint Police Department and the Genesee County prosecutor's office to raise awareness about violence against women and share the grant.<

Details of the 3P program - which stands for
Prevent, Protect & Prosecute Violence Against Women - were to have been announced at a press conference this morning at the YWCA.

"There's a lot of female students that walk around late on campus, and in the summer there will probably be even more," said Hopkins, 18, an MCC political science major from Flint.

The grant also will pay for law enforcement training, support groups and campuswide education.

For example, new students will receive online information about local resources to get help if they are victims.

"It's important because it's going to give UM-Flint an opportunity to raise awareness about violence," said Michelle Oksana Rosynsky, director of UM-Flint's Women's Educational Center.

"Although incidents on campus are fairly low, we have students who come to the school who are victims. We need to be better prepared to address those students and ... enable them to st
ay in school."

Rosynsky said another outcome is more monitoring of the corridor between UM-Flint and MCC.

The YWCA will serve as a liaison, providing training for all administrators, faculty, staff and students.

The campaign kicked off in January with training for UM-Flint and MCC representatives in Seattle.
