Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. issued a statement on the January 6 prosecutions Friday, saying that while violent rioters deserved to be punished, many prosecutions of non-violent protesters were excessive.

Kennedy’s statement undercuts the Democratic Party’s effort to portray the 2024 election as a “defense of democracy” and a referendum on the so-called “insurrection,” which Democrats blame on former President Donald Trump.

Kennedy’s statement reads as follows:

January 6 is one of the most polarizing topics on the political landscape. I am listening to people of diverse viewpoints on it in order to make sense of the event and what followed. I want to hear every side.
It is quite clear that many of the January 6 protestors broke the law in what may have started as a protest but turned into a riot. Because it happened with the encouragement of President Trump, and in the context of his delusion that the election was stolen from him, many people see it not as a riot but as an insurrection.
I have not examined the evidence in detail, but reasonable people, including Trump opponents, tell me there is little evidence of a true insurrection. They observe that the protestors carried no weapons, had no plans or ability to seize the reins of government, and that Trump himself had urged them to protest “peacefully.”
Like many reasonable Americans, I am concerned about the possibility that political objectives motivated the vigor of the prosecution of the J6 defendants, their long sentences, and their harsh treatment. That would fit a disturbing pattern of the weaponization of government agencies — the DoJ, the IRS, the SEC, the FBI, etc. — against political opponents.
One can, as I do, oppose Donald Trump and all he stands for, and still be disturbed by the weaponization of government against him.
As President, I will appoint a special counsel — an individual respected by all sides — to investigate whether prosecutorial discretion was abused for political ends in this case, and I will right any wrongs that we discover. Without the impartial rule of law, there is no true democracy or moral governance. That’s why John Adams, a staunch patriot, defended the British soldiers involved in the Boston Massacre in court. If we betray justice in pursuit of an ideal, that betrayal will corrupt anything we accomplish.
Both establishment parties are using J6 to pour fuel on the fire of America’s divisions. Each side claims that a victory by their opponents means the end of democracy. Then, anything is justified to stop them. We run the risk of destroying democracy in order to save it.
Instead of demonizing our opponents as apocalyptic threats to democracy, let’s focus on the issues and priorities of how they will govern, and defeat them at the ballot box rather than through legal maneuvers and dirty tricks. Presidents Trump and Biden both presided over the continued worsening of our national debt, chronic disease epidemic, government corruption, erosion of civil liberties, and foreign military entanglements. Maybe it is because the establishment parties differ very little on these key issues that they campaign on the demonization of their opponents and all who support them instead.

Whistleblowers are set to testify next week, offering new perspectives that could challenge the prevailing narrative surrounding the 2020 election. Officers from the Washington D.C. National Guard are set to provide evidence contradicting the narrative presented by the January 6 Committee. These whistleblowers claim they were ready to deploy on former President Donald Trump’s orders during the Capitol breach but were restrained by the Pentagon, a delay that may reshape public understanding of the events of that day.
Scheduled to testify next Wednesday before a House subcommittee, at least three National Guard officers will challenge previous assertions made by the January 6 Committee, which had been leading the investigation into the Capitol breach. The testimony is expected to assert that Acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller had approved the deployment of the D.C. National Guard on Trump’s directive.

National Guard Whistleblowers Speak Out on January 6 Delay,” aims to explore whether bureaucratic delays, rather than Trump’s actions, were responsible for the National Guard’s late arrival at the scene. This perspective challenges the January 6 Committee’s findings, which suggested Trump was complicit in exacerbating the violence by hindering a timely military response.
Further complicating the narrative, the whistleblowers allege that the January 6 Committee ignored their testimonies because it did not align with the predetermined narrative that sought to place the blame squarely on the former president. The officers, who were reportedly in full tactical gear and ready to move on January 6, will detail their hours-long wait for deployment orders that only came after significant delays according to the outlet.

But think about it—if that were true, wouldn’t he want as few cops around as possible? Yet, Trump actually requested 10,000 National Guard troops to be at the scene. It doesn’t add up, right? How does that fit their wild “insurrection” story? If you’re planning to overthrow the government, why on earth would you ask for more law enforcement to be there? Without 10,000 troops maintaining order, it was easier to stir up chaos and position their federal operatives strategically during the events of that day.

Last April Trump was hit with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records and conspiracy. The charges are unprecedented and illogical.
Alvin Bragg still hasn’t named the underlying felony after he twisted the law and somehow upgraded the misdemeanor charges that were past the statute of limitations – to felonies.

After refusing to recuse himself, Judge Juan Merchan on Monday threatened to put President Trump in jail if he doesn’t show up for trial.
On Monday, the Marxist tyrannical judge told President Trump that he could be thrown in prison if he did not show up each day in court. This is a clear constitutional violation.
Judge Merchan even warned President Trump about attending his son’s high school graduation. This is typical behavior from soulless Marxists as we are quickly learning in America today.

Professor Dershowitz: Well, look, I’m looking for a fair election. I’m an American voter who hasn’t decided at this point who to vote for and who to vote against. I just want a fair election. … And this case is depriving the American public. I’m speaking for the American public, not for the candidates. Depriving the American public of the right to have a fair election.
President Trump should be in Pennsylvania today. There is a statute that gives him the right to leave the court any day. But the statute says, In the absence of an objection by the people. In other words, the prosecution has a veto over the judge’s decision whether to allow him to leave the courtroom on any given day. That is unconstitutional, and this case ought to be challenged. There ought to be a motion made by Trump’s lawyers immediately under Section 340.50, in which the judge has the power to allow him to leave the courtroom and campaign, but only if the prosecution agrees to it, which is clearly unconstitutional.
The gag order is unconstitutional. You cannot prevent a defendant from attacking the witnesses, from attacking the judge’s daughter, if the judge’s daughter could be a basis for disqualification.
I agree with Greg. The American public is sick and tired of seeing the legal system weaponized. Whether you’re a Democrat or a Republican, whether you’re a Trump supporter or a Biden supporter, you should be equally appalled. We have the right to decide who to vote for without the thumb, or in this case, the elbow of the criminal justice system led by Democrats, in this case, the district attorney who campaigned on a promise to get Trump, essentially.
