Authorities Investigating Report Of Armed Robbery And Sexual Assault Of Temple Student

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia Police are investigating an armed robbery and sexual assault of a female Temple University student.

Authorities say it happened around midnight at the 1400 block of Carlisle Street, just blocks South from campus.

No other details have been released about a suspect or the victim.

Temple University Police also reminded students that they can use their ‘Walking Escort Program.’

Police Release Video, Photos Of Suspect In Sex Assault, Robbery Of Temple Student

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The Philadelphia Police Department has released several images and video of the suspect wanted in the sexual assault and robbery of a Temple student on Monday.

Authorities say a 20-year-old girl was walking on the 1400 block of Carlisle Street when she heard footsteps. Police say a man hit her arm with his gun and took her to a construction site where he sexually assaulted her.

Police say the suspect has not yet been identified.

Anyone with information on the incident or the suspect is urged to contact the Philadelphia Police Department.

Person-Of-Interest In Sexual Assault Of Temple Student In Custody For Unrelated Violation

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Police tell Eyewitness News that the man seen in surveillance video from a SEPTA train, who was a person-of-interest in the sexual assault of a Temple student, has been taken into custody for a probation violation and is being investigated in the sexual assault and robbery of the female.

At this time, he has not been charged.

The Special Victims Unit is still investigating.

Police: Arrest Made In Sexual Assault Of Temple Student

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Police say an arrest has been made in the sexual assault, robbery of a Temple student that occurred at the end of September.

Shakree Bennett faces rape and robbery charges. He’s accused of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old as she was walking home from Temple’s library on September 28th.

“We were particularly troubled by the incident. Much effort was put into this by various agencies,” says Special Victims Unit Captain John Darby.

Darby says the 23-year-old used a gun to force the student into a construction site off Carslile Street where the attack happened.

Surveillance video got a clear shot of a suspect, and Darby says tip calls helped lead police to Bennett in North Jersey. He was put in handcuffs last week by US Marshals there and extradited to Philadelphia.

“We feel good getting this perpetrator off the street,” Darby said.

Bennett is being held on $50,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for October 29th.
