Police hold 7 in robberies

Police detectives are re-examining unsolved cases dating back to last year after arresting seven teenagers in connection with two home invasion robberies and a clothing store burglary.

Columbia police Sgt. Ken Hammond said investigators have heard the suspects — Columbia males ages 16 to 19 — were identifying themselves as a gang, but they did not identify themselves as gang members during police interviews.

“I think they’re trying to form a gang but haven’t gotten to that point,â┚¬ Hammond said. “We’re definitely glad they’re off the streets.â┚¬

Police have tied the suspects to two home invasions, including one this month in which a man in a wheelc
hair was hit with a shotgun, and an April 29 burglary of New York Fashion, 601 Business Loop 70 W. Hammond said investigators are looking at unsolved robberies dating back to December to determine whether any of the suspects were involved.

The suspects were arrested on suspicion of first-degree robbery and various other felony charges. They are: Avery Nelson, 18, of 1523 Native Dancer Court; Wesley Nelson, 19, of 1523 Native Dancer Court; Devin Jackson, 17, of 1302 Lowe St.; Antoine T. Johnson-Harris, 17, of 3608 Santiago Drive; Amelio Lawson, 17, of 2151 Bolli Road; and two unidentified 16-year-olds. Boone County Assistant Prosecutor Richard Hicks said today he was reviewing police reports to determine what charges to file.

The five adult suspects were being held today at Boone County Jail, with bond yet to be set for Jackson, Johnson-Harris and Lawson. Bond for the Nelson brothers is set at $100,000 each on charges of first-degree robbery and armed criminal action stemming from a May 4 home invasion.

During that robbery, four men armed with a shotgun entered 3700 Bent Oak Drive. They stole money, electronics and jewelry, along with a vehicle, which police found later in the Derby Ridge neighborhood.

According to a probable cause statement filed in Boone County Circuit Court, a police canine unit tracked a scent from the recovered vehicle to 1523 Nativ
e Dancer Court, where the Nelson brothers live. Victim John Parolin later identified Avery Nelson from a photo lineup as the person “that appeared to be in charge during the robberyâ┚¬ and struck him with the gun, according to the probable cause statement.

Police said Johnson-Harris, Lawson and one of the juvenile suspects were involved in an April 19 home invasion at 707 W. Old Plank Road. In that incident, three people armed with rifles invaded the residence, stealing electronics and cash.

The arrests began at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday when police served a search warrant at the Native Dancer address and arrested Avery Nelson. Wesley Nelson turned himself into police at about 1 a.m. yesterday.

Police also served a narcotics-related search warrant yesterday at 18 Third Ave., where they arrested Jackson and one of the juvenile suspects and found a small amount of marijuana. Drug charges could be sought against the unidentified residents, police said.

The other suspects were arrested
yesterday after interviews with the suspects and further investigation. “It kind of snowballed last night,â┚¬ Hammond said. “We’ll see what comes up next.â┚¬

myusername says...
I figured there would be some characteristic shared by these criminals, and it must be part of their gang criteria. A gang of people with a last name (or hyphenated portion) ending in "n", too bad I can't join.

It seems that these criminals have something else in common that starts, rather than ends with the letter "n" - they are niggers! :D
