A registered sex offender has been arrested and charged with the Saturday rape of a 15-year-old girl at Cumberland Missionary Baptist Church.
Christopher Montrell White, 22, of 22 Foxlea Cove, was working as a custodian at the church when the alleged rape occurred, according to a release from the Jackson Police Department.
Police said White surrendered on Sunday, and was arraigned Monday morning in City Court. Judge Blake Anderson set bond at $250,000, and set a preliminary hearing for 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 13.
Police said the rape occurred Saturday afternoon at the church, located at 532 N. Hays Ave.
The victim, the report said, was at the church for a fashion show. The Jackson Sun does not identify victims i
n alleged sexual assault cases unless the victim gives permission.

James L. Elliott issued a statement on the incident Tuesday night, but declined to answer specific questions.
"Please be advised that on Oct. 1, 2005, there was an incident that involved Christopher White and a minor," he said. "This incident happened after all the members had exited Cumberland Missionary Baptist Church from an event. Both parties involved are members at Cumberland Missionary Baptist Church."
White is listed on the Tennessee Sexual Offender Registry. He was convicted of statutory rape in a November 2002 case, according to the registry. No other details were listed on the registry.
