A man serving a 50-year sentence for a 1989 attempted rape conviction was indicted Thursday (July 12) in a 30-year-old rape case in New Orleans.

According to District Attonrey Leon Cannizzaro's office, DNA linked Dwayne "Duck Boodie" Lewis to the previously unsolved rape, which occurred in the 900 block of Pine Street on May 29, 1988.

The victim in the 1988 case told police she was sleeping when an intruder armed with a knife entered her house through a window around 4:30 a.m. When the woman, who was 18 at the time, could not meet the attacker's demand for money, she was ordered to undress and was raped, according to Cannizzaro's office.

A 39-year-old man already facing a 2017 rape offense has been charged with sexually assaulting two more women, thanks to a state effort to test previously untested sexual assault evidence kits, Wilmington police said.

Kili Mayfield was arrested on June 18 on charges of rape, strangulation and assault stemming from an investigation of a sexual assault that occurred in April 2017 in Wilmington.

During the course of the investigation, DNA evidence was collected and submitted for scientific testing and analysis. As a result of the testing, Mayfield was developed as a suspect, police said in a statement.

On Thursday, July 26, Mayfield was charged with the July 2010 and October 2014 rapes of two more women.

Sex assault kit test leads to indictment 11 years after alleged attack
Updated September 6, 2018 at 12:27 PM

The recent testing of an old sexual assault kit from a crime reported the day it occurred in Portland has led to the arrest of a suspect now 11 years later.

Ricky Alexander Harrison, 38
, has been indicted on charges of first-degree sodomy, third-degree sodomy and two counts of second-degree sexual abuse in the alleged assault of a 15-year-old girl on Feb. 3, 2007.

The girl didn't know Harrison before she reported the alleged attack to Portland police, said Tara Gardner, a Multnomah County deputy district attorney. Gardner declined to elaborate on the circumstances.

Forensic evidence from the girl wasn't sent to a crime lab for analysis until 2016, Gardner said.

A Memphis man has been indicted for allegedly raping a woman at her Parkway Village area apartment in 2003.

Lester Tolliver, 55, is charged with aggravated assault and is in jail on a $500,000 bond.

Investigators said that on Dec. 1, 2003, the 19-year-old victim was in her apartment off Getwell Road, north of Knight Arnold Road when she heard someone turning the doorknob in an attempt to get in.

She told police at the time that she ran to the backdoor, but the suspect was standing there. He forced her back into the apartment and locked the door.

He then took her to the bedroom, where he raped her.

In 2014, the rape kit was tested and in September 2015 Tolliver was identified as the suspect.

Tolliver was convicted of attempted rape in 1995, has a pending rape case and has five pending aggravated rape cases from 2003.

Complaint: DNA ties Madison man convicted of armed robbery to earlier sexual assault

A Madison man currently serving a state prison sentence for armed robbery was charged Friday with a 2016 sexual assault after his DNA was found to match evidence collected from a woman who said she was raped during a robbery at her Far East Side home, according to court records.

Gerrico D. Holt, 23, who was sentenced in May to three years in prison for the August 2017 armed robbery of a woman on East Washington Avenue, was charged with first-degree sexual assault and armed robbery for the Dec. 9, 2016, rape of a woman at her Charon Lane apartment.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Dane County Circuit Court, the woman told police that she left her apartment building that afternoon to smoke a cigarette when a man approached and put a gun to her back. He told her to take him to her apartment, the complaint states, and once there he demanded money. While still holding the gun, she told police, he made her remove her clothes and then sexually assaulted her.

After he left, the woman collected evidence from the assault in a plastic bag, which she gave to police, the complaint states.

Montgomery County police have arrested a 39-year-old man in connection with a series of rapes that took place in the county between 2007 and 2011.

Marlon Michael Alexander of Germantown was arrested at a grocery store Thursday, just hours after his DNA was matched to four crime scenes, police say.

Police tracked down Alexander after a DNA database search turned up two relatives, at least one of whom helped police in the investigation.

In each case, police say Alexander broke into a woman's home and sexually assaulted her.

The first attack occurred on Aug. 11, 2007 in the 18200 block of Lost Knife Circle in Gaithersburg. Police say Alexander broke into the 25-year-old victim's home and told her he would shoot her if she did not perform a sex act.

The two struggled before the suspect left the home, police say.

Three years later, on June 19, 2010, police say Alexander broke into the Germantown home of a 68-year-old woman in the middle of the night. He held a weapon to her head and raped her, according to investigators.

Just over a month later, police believe Alexander broke into the home of an 86-year-old woman who was living at a senior living facility in Germantown. Police say he was armed with a pair of scissors when he raped her. He struck the woman multiple times before leaving, according to police.

On Jan. 5, 2011, police say the victim of the June 19, 2010 incident was attacked again when Alexander once again broke into her home.

"The second time, he came into my bedroom window feet first but as soon as he hit the ground and we looked at each other we knew,” the victim said in an interview with News4 in 2011. "I probably said something like, 'You again.'"

She died before her attacker was caught, but two other victims are aware of the arrest and prepared to help in the prosecution, police said.

A career criminal who has previously served five sentences in state prison is behind bars again, this time accused of three rapes. According to police, DNA evidence has linked the 51-year-old to rapes dating back to 2006.

Christopher Charles Sanders began serving prison time in August 1989, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections. Ten years later, he was in the middle of his fourth prison sentence following convictions on burglary and drug charges, records show.

After being released in July 2002, Sanders was a free man until April 2007, when he returned to prison. But during his time on the outside, he allegedly raped a woman inside his Marietta home, according to his arrest warrant.

Man gets life for rape after victim ID’s him six years later at MARTA station

A man has been convicted of rape after the victim spotted him six years after the incident, according to Fulton County prosecutors.

Antonio White, 54, was sentenced to life without parole after he was convicted Friday night, Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard said in a statement.

The victim recognized White while she waited at the Five Points MARTA station in October 2013, six years after the incident
, Howard said.

“She was overcome by the moment and began to yell out that he was the man who had raped her six years earlier,” Howard said. “Hearing her cries for help, MARTA police arrested White and turned him over to Atlanta police.”

In August 2007, the victim was walking to the Hamilton E. Holmes station when White drove up in his gray Chevrolet Lumina and asked if she wanted a ride, according to prosecutors.

“The victim knew White from the former Carver Homes neighborhood in Southeast Atlanta where they both formerly lived, so she said OK,” Howard said. “Instead of driving her home, the defendant took the victim to an abandoned house on Bowen Avenue.

“As White opened his door, the victim opened her door and ran, but he chased her with a gun,” Howard said. “The defendant grabbed the victim’s hair from behind and pulled her back inside the car at gunpoint. White then raped the victim inside his vehicle.”

SEATTLE - Eleven years after the attack, a 52-year-old man is arrested for the kidnapping and repeated rape of a 14-year-old girl he allegedly abducted in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of South Seattle.

The victim's rape kit, stored among more than 1,000 in a well-known backlog of untested sets of evidence, was finally examined and yielded a DNA match for Darin Bolar in December 2017.

Police arrested Bolar Sept. 26 and prosecutors charged him Monday with first-degree kidnapping and two counts of second-degree rape for the October 2007 attack.

Suspect arraigned in 1997 Mobile rape; part of cold-case initiative
Updated October 3, 2018 at 1:00 PM

Fredrick%20Antoine%20Tate%20ADOC.jpg

The 1997 rape on Broad Street was a classic cold case. If a Wednesday arraignment leads to a conviction, it may become a classic example of why it pays to revisit dead ends.

It was December, according to prosecutors. A young woman was walking home from work. She was accosted by a stranger, led behind a vacant building at gunpoint and sexually assaulted. Investigators collected DNA evidence and she provided a description of her assailant, but the investigation provided no leads.

It took 20 years for that to change. Mobile became one of a number of cities receiving federal Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) grants aimed specifically at clearing backlogs of stored evidence kits. The DNA sample in this case actually had been tested in the beginning, but hadn't provided a match. But when it was sent off again for testing in 2016, thanks to the new funding, there was a much bigger DNA database to compare it to. This time there was a match: Frederick Antoine Tate.

Tate, 42, whose first name is also listed as "Fredrick" in court records, was already in prison. He'd pleaded guilty to a rape charge in 1999. In 2008 he pleaded guilty to failing to register as a sex offender, drawing a split sentence in which virtually all his prison time was suspended. A similar situation happened again in early 2013. But later that year he was arrested on a third-degree burglary charge, which brought the suspended sentence crashing down. According to the Alabama Department of Corrections, his guilty plea in October 2014 came with a 15-year sentence for the sex offender registration violation and a concurrent 15 years for the burglary charge.

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Baton Rouge police have arrested a Baker man in connection with a rape case that had been unsolved for over 20 years.

John Louis Davis, 38
, of Baker, was arrested on October 18 for allegedly raping a woman in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day 1998.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by WAFB, Davis struck up a conversation with the 18-year-old victim on Choctaw Drive before punching her and then raping her behind a building.

The victim immediately reported the rape and was taken to a local hospital. However, no suspect was developed in the case and it remained unsolved.

Investigators say 20 years later, the victim saw Davis at a wedding reception on June 3 and recognized him as the man who raped her.

The woman got Davis' name at the reception and then contacted the Baton Rouge Police Department. She later picked Davis out of a photo lineup of suspects.

Detectives obtained a search warrant to collect a DNA sample from Davis and submitted it to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.

Baton Rouge police believe a man on death row in Texas was the killer in a 1999 shooting death of an LSU student, linking him to the crime almost two decades later through DNA evidence.

Investigators on Tuesday issued a warrant for Travis Green, 49, after his DNA was matched to a glove found at the scene of the 1999 shooting death of 19-year-old Kassie Federer. Green is currently on death row in Livingston, Texas, for another slaying, that of a 19-year-old woman killed in Houston days before Federer's death in Baton Rouge, said police spokesman Sgt. Don Coppola Jr.

Green is on death row in Texas after he was convicted in the Sept. 2, 1999 rape-slaying of Kristin Loesch in Houston, 11 days before Federer was fatally shot, records show. A 2007 Houston Chronicle article says Green was also found to be the perpetrator in the 1988 slaying of an 82-year-old woman in west Houston. Margaret McGinnis was sexually assaulted and strangled on July 13, 1988 in her home, the article says.

http://murderpedia.org/male.G/g/green-travis-dwight.htm

On 9/2/1999, Green entered the apartment of a 19 year old white female, raping and killing her.

DNA evidence confirmed the identity of Green as the assailant.

http://www.houstontx.gov/police/nr/2007/apr/nr040407-1.html

April 4, 2007 -- The suspect has been identified as Travis D. Green (b/m, DOB 11-1-68), who is currently an inmate at the Polunsky Unit of the Texas prison system.

The victim, Margaret McGinnis, 82, of 1805 Crocker, was found dead at the scene. She had been sexually assaulted and strangled.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant E.S. Mehl reported:

On the morning of July 13,1988, Ms. McGinnis was found on the floor of her bedroom. She had been sexually assaulted and strangled. The attacker had entered the residence through the bedroom window and barricaded the door from the inside.

DNA evidence led to the arrest of a North Carolina prison inmate in connection to a 26-year-old Charlotte rape case, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said in a news release Tuesday.

In June 1992, a 27-year-old woman was raped in the 2200 block of Rama Road after she accepted a ride home from a man, CMPD’s news release said. The assailant “dragged” the woman from his car and “forced” her into a dumpster , according to the news release. He then drove away, police said.

“The victim was treated at the hospital and a sexual assault kit was collected,” CMPD’s news release said. “The sexual assault kit was initially tested in 1992, and additional testing was completed on it in 2017 as a part of a federal grant CMPD received.”

Police said, “DNA evidence confirmed Kenneth McIllwaine as the suspect.”

SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. - Fulton County police have made an arrest in a 21-year-old homicide case, officials announced Thursday.

Fulton County police Chief Darryl Halbert said Jerry Lee, 61, was arrested this week in the 1997 murder of Lorrie Ann Smith, 28. Smith was shot to death in her home in South Fulton County on May 25, 1997.

Channel 2's Tyisha Fernandes spoke to South Fulton County police, who said they were able to use ancestry websites to finally solve the case.

Smith was shot in the back in her own bedroom at a home on Stonewall Tell Road. Police said there was no sign of forced entry, sexual assault or robbery.

It was clear Smith fought for her life. Police found a "significant amount" of the suspect's blood at the scene, but without modern DNA testing were not able to make a match in the state database.

That's where Ancestry.com came in to play. Investigators took DNA they collected from the crime scene and sent it to a DNA testing company called Parabon, which found a sim
