CHICAGO (CBS 2) Bond has now been denied for a west side man accused of killing a teenager for the way he played basketball. CBS 2's Alita Guillen explains how a friendly pick-up game at a Logan Square YMCA turned deadly.

Ninteen-year-old Donte Thomas, a recent high school graduate and neighborhood kid who loved to play ball, was gunned down at the YMCA on North Lawndale. His accused murderer, Mackrell Lane, said Thomas was a ball hog.

Thomas aunt, Linda Hill, said, When something like that happens it's really terrible because it's a loved one and they can't be replaced.

Thomas and Lane teamed up in the gym at the YMCA a week ago Sunday. The guys played a pick-up game and lost. Lane reportedly told police the loss was all because of Thoma
s, who wouldn't pass the ball.

When the game was over, Lane
left angry with Thomas. He came back a short time later with a handgun, police say. That's when the two quarreled and Lane shot Thomas three times. Witnesses called 911 and Lane ran.

Police spent the week searching for him and managers at the YMCA spent the week calming fears and reviewing safety procedures.

YMCA Executive Director Jeannette Feliciano said, There was obvious concern of whether or not something like this could happen again or whether or not thered be retaliation. And we were confident that there would not be any retaliation.

But just in case, an armed security guard is on duty at all times and security cameras are being considered -- precautions that were not in place when Linda Hills nephew was killed. But she's not thinking about that now.

Only thing I can say is pray and keep that faith, and things, you know, will work for you, she said.
