Investigators said at about 6 a.m., a manager entering the New Orleans Hamburger and Seafood Co. on Veterans Boulevard was confronted by a man with a gun. The suspect, Terrence Williams, 27, forced his way inside the restaurant and ordered the manager to open a safe, according to sheriff's spokesma

n Col. John Fortunato.

As the manager complied, she was able to push a silent panic button that alerted po
lice.

The suspect took an undisclosed amount of money and the manager's car keys. He then bound her arms to her body with duct tape and fled.

As he exited the restaurant, deputies responding to the silent alarm showed up.

Williams took off in the manager's car and a police pursuit ensued. During the chase, Williams tried to injure the pursuing deputy four times by hitting his brakes, Fortunato said.

The chase ended in a crash on David Drive, where the suspect got out of the car, tried to steal a deputy's car, then tried to flee on foot, Fortunato said. He was caught and arrested without further incident.

Williams was booked with four counts of attempted murder of a police officer, one count of auto theft, one count of attempted auto theft, armed robbery and other offenses.
