Mother finds children, husband shot dead
Police say they still have not established any motive for the shooting deaths of a Perth father and his two young children, found dead by the mother in Perth on Wednesday night.
Police say the 28-year-old woman returned to her house in Redcliffe after a shopping trip about 6.30pm (WDT) and found the bodies of her two year-old-son, six-year-old daughter and husband, 34, in the master bedroom.
Police say they are not hunting a gunman but would not confirm whether they believed the shooting to be a murder suicide.
Detective Sergeant Dave Robson said they found a handgun in the house licensed to the father, who they believe was a member of a nearby gun club.
Det Sgt Robson would not confirm reports that the children had been shot in the head.
The mother is with relatives and is receiving counselling, he said.
"She is distraught, she is beside herself, she has lost her whole family," Det Sgt Robson told reporters.
Police said they had not established a motive for the crime and said by all accounts it seemed they were a very happy family.
"There have been no incidents in the past that the police have attended here," Det Sgt Robson said.
The Muslim family are believed to be Afghani immigrants who have lived in Australia for at least a decade, he said.
The bodies of all three were removed in two separate cars at about 9.30am (WDT) on Thursday.
Det Sgt Robson said it was tragic that two young lives had ended so violently.
"It's always very, very disturbing when a young child dies in this way," he said
Forensic investigators are continuing to comb through the house in a quiet suburban cul-de-sac for more evidence.
Det Sgt Robson said the identities of the deceased were likely to be made public later on Thursday.
Neighbours of the family said they were likeable people and the father was "a very nice guy".
Now that we are loaded with all this dark and yellow people, the crime is right across Australia, and from police, all you can hear is we think and we guess and we need help from public. But the Government didn't ask for help, how we will handle them, before their arrival. "Hello anyone there?'
