Canberra Imam accused of withholding mosque funds
Differences between Canberra's Imam and the Islamic Society have been revealed in an open letter circulating in the community.
The letter accuses Imam Mohammed Swaiti of holding on to money when the mosque needs urgent repairs.
The four page document is understood to have been distributed at Friday prayers.
It says the Imam was given the money 13 years ago by a former Saudi Arabian ambassador to help maintain the mosque.
But the letter says repeated requests from a succession of elected committees to have the money released for maintenance have been rejected.
Mr. Swaiti has not been available for comment.
