Teen Charged In Carjacking Near Plaza
Prosecutors Request $250,000 Bond

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Jackson County prosecutors charged a 16-year-old in a carjacking Sunday near the Country Club Plaza.

Jarvell J. Henderson was charged with first-degree robbery and armed criminal action on Monday.

Police said they were called to Courtyard Marriott Hotel at about 10 p.m.

The victim told officers he had parked in the hotel's parking lot and was gathering belongings from the car when two people walked up to him and asked him for the time. One of robbers then pulled a gun and demanded the victim's wallet and car keys. The robbers took off.

Police later spotted the victim's car at 45th and Main streets. Officers took the driver, identified as Henderson, into custody.

Prosecutors have requested a $250,000 cash bond.

Henderson has a prior robbery conviction stemming from an incident in Kansas City, Missouri, police said. He spent 10 years in prison and was released in March 2017.

    AKRON, Ohio -- A Missouri man was sentenced to life in prison for killing a customer who tried to stop him from robbing an Akron convenience store.

    Jarvell Henderson, 27, pleaded guilty Friday to murder, aggravated robbery, and felonious assault in the Dec. 26 shooting of David Dzatko, prosecutors said.
  • Judge Tammy O'Brien sentenced Henderson immediately after he pleaded guilty in Summit County Common Pleas Court.
    Henderson will be eligible for parole after 35 years (2054, deserved execution 😃 ), a Summit County Prosecutor's Office spokesman said.

    Dzatko confronted Henderson and pepper-sprayed him in an attempt to stop a robbery at Luei's Convenience on Hammel Street near Cole Avenue. Henderson then shot the 59-year-old man in the chest, police said.

    Henderson went to the store about 4 p.m. and pulled a gun on a clerk. He took money from a cash register and ran from the store, police said.

    Henderson ran away through the nearby Parklane Manor Apartments after he shot Dzatko, police said.

    Dzatko died after paramedics took him to Summa Akron City Hospital.

    Investigators quickly identified Henderson as a suspect in the robbery and shooting because he dropped his wallet - which contained his ID -- at the convenience store, police said.
