Murder suspect sought

MT. VERNON --Police are searching for a St. Louis man in connection with the shooting death of a former Chicago man early Saturday in Mt. Vernon.
Deionce Moss of Chicago Street was shot about 2:05 a.m. at or near the intersection of 17th Street and Lamar Avenue, said Capt. Steve Lamar of the Mt. Vernon Police. Moss died about 5 a.m. at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital. He was shot in the head and at another location on his body.
Authorities believe Moss was killed by Emmanuel Garrett, 25, who police are considering to be armed and dangerous, Lamar said.
The captain would not disclose why Mos
was at the intersection or if he was alone, but said police believe he last lived at 817 S. 20th St. in Mt. Vernon.
Lamar said this morning that Garrett has not been seen in the area since the crime. He

added he wasn
't aware if Garrett left the scene on foot or by automobile. He said the two men were acquaintances.
Garrett is described as a black male, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, with a medium build and brown hair and eyes.
