Authorities in Guilford County say an arrest has been made in a nearly 18-month-old slaying.

Quantine Alexander Little, 26, was charged Tuesday with first-degree murder and placed in the Guilford County Jail under no bond, according to a police statement.

On Oct. 6, 2003, railroad maintenance workers discovered a body near the tracks near the S. Scientific Street crossing. The body was identified as Kenneth Wayne Roberts, Jr., 23. His last known address was in Jamestown.

Police said there were two gunshot wounds to Roberts' body -- one in the back and one in the head.

recount the brief life history of the victim, who turns out to be the son of a former NFL football player. It's a true tale of negritude and a handy rebuttal to people who argue that poverty causes negro criminality.)

Arrest made in 18-month-old shooting death (Complete article at link)

HIGH POINT -- Almost a year and a half after former college football player Kenny Wayne Roberts Jr., 23, was found fatally shot in east High Point, police arrested a High Point man Tuesday and charged him with first-degree murder.

Roberts' father, Ken, is a former NFL player and college track athlete who moved with his family from Buffalo to the Triad in 1995. He and his wife, Diane, helped form the High Point Panthers track club. The gr
oup has involved hundreds of area youths in summertime competitions and character-building activities. His parents couldn't be reached for comment Wednesday.

In an interview
with the News & Record last year, Roberts' parents described him as a promising football player until he started hanging around with a bad crowd and making poor decisions.

Kenny Roberts played running back in high school before graduating in 1998, and he won a football scholarship to Wake Forest, his father said. But he lost his spot after he was charged with three counts of armed robbery after an altercation that summer in Washington Terrace Park. He later pleaded guilty to lesser charges of misdemeanor larceny and received a year of unsupervised probation.

Roberts did get a football scholarship to Western Carolina and played there for more than a year before dropping out of school. There was pressure on him to return home after his then-girlfriend gave birth to their daughter.

<sp
an style='font-size:12pt;line-height:100%'>Though his family lived in a large, comfortable home in a quiet neighborhood, Roberts gravitated toward High Point's inner city.

his parents for a while, but he eventually moved in with a new girlfriend in the Clara Cox public housing community.

So there you have it.. from upper class suburbanite to dead by the railroad tracks.. a classic downward spiral of negritude.
