A 15-year-old pregnant girl fatally shot while driving with a group of friends on the north side early Tuesday was the victim of road rage, police say.

That girl, identified as Montrise Conley by family, had just call
d her parents to let them know she was coming home.

She never made it.

Conley, who was three months pregnant, had been at a friend's house and was heading home with a group of friends shor

tly before 2:30 a.m. when the vehicle in which she was riding cut off a bicyclist heading east on W. Keefe
Ave., police said.

Passengers riding with her spotted the bicyclist in the rear-view mirror while stopped at a traffic light at N. 5th St. and W. Keefe Ave. They told police that he began shouting at them, pulled out a gun and fired shots at the back of the car before riding off.

The car's driver drove Conley to the Milwaukee Police Department's District 5 headquarters at 2920 N. 4th St, where police called an ambulance.

Conley was taken to Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Wauwatosa, where she was treated for a gunshot wound to the temple.

Attempts to sustain her on respirator machines failed, and she died about 10 a.m. Tuesday, said her aunt, Peggy Conley, wh
o was struggling to deal with the loss of her niece and what would have been her great-niece.

"That is two lives that are gone," Peggy Conley said. "It's pretty terrible ri
ght
now."

She said the minivan was filled with two of her niece's female friends and two young males who had been hanging out together. No one els
e was hit by the shots, police said.

Conley said her niece - called "Sweet Pea" by her family - was a "sweet kid" who attended Madison University High School and was looking forward to becoming a mother.

Montrise Conley's mother was with the body Tuesday night, refusing to let it leave the hospital, Peggy Conley said.

"It's pretty hard for my sister right now," she said. "She won't let go."

Police are looking for the man on the bike and describe him as a black male, age 20 to 25, slim to medium build with a round face and short hair. He was wearing a black short-sleeved T-shirt
and black pants and riding a mountain bike.
