A fourth co-defendant has received a lengthy prison sentence for his role in the March, 2004 slaying of a Flint Township drug dealer.

Genesee Circuit Judge Archie L. Hayman told Adrian L. Tripplett before sentencing that he was like a "puzzle."

Although Tripplett, 19, of Flint had no prior convictions and appeared to come from a good family, Hayman said, he "seems to be the most evil" of the group that planned to rob and kill Jeffrey A. Buggs.

"Everybody wants to be a thug nowadays," Hayman said before sentencing Tripplett to 22 years, 6 months to 50 years in prison for his earlier plea to second-degree murder.

He also was sentenced to 2 years for felony firearm use.

Police and prosecutors said Tripplett and four others set up a plan to rob Buggs, who regularly sold marijuana to one of them.

Buggs, 20, was found March 29, 2004, in a
r
bedroom of his Autumn Grove apartment on Drummond Street, bleeding from
his chest and neck. He had been stabbed and shot.

Tripplett and three others accepted plea deals from prosecutors and testified at the trial of Gregory L. Kelly, 20, of Flint that he was the mastermind who set up the entire plot.

Jurors, however, acquitted Kelly of murder, robbery and weapons charges.

Daphine Buggs, the victim's sister who spoke at several of the sentencings, told Tripplett that he was going to prison for a long time for his $100 profit.

Witnesses at trial said the four co-defendants each received $100 from the robbery, while Kelly got some marijuana.

Tripplett apologized to the victim's family and his own.

Earlier, Hayman sentenced Alphonso D. Stewart, 17, to 20-40 years in prison for second-degree murder and 2 years for felony firearm; Akeen R.A. Brown, 19, to 4 years, 9 months to 15 years in prison for manslaughter and unarmed robbery; and Aaron C. Dunigan,
19
, to 21/2 to 5 years in prison for unarmed robbery.
