MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - A man is now facing a murder charge for a bar fight that ended in a deadly shooting outside a parking ramp in Minneapolis.
Leontawan Holt, age 24, is now charged with murder for the deadly shooting shortly before midnight on April 23 in Uptown near Lagoon Avenue and Girard Avenue South.
In charges filed on Thursday, officers say they responded to the Moziac parking ramp on that night for a victim who had been shot. At the scene, police say a Good Samaritan, who is a nurse, was applying pressure to the victim's sternum. Despite efforts to save his life, police say he died at the scene.
Reviewing surveillance video, police were able to track the victim back to Williams Pub where they say the conflict began. In the video, police say a man, identified as Holt, gets involved in a fight with another man that sparks a brawl involving Holt and his friends.
The victim is near the bar but shortly after goes out the front door. A couple of minutes later, the brawl is broken up and police say Holt also leaves the bar with two other men.
Police say the video shows the victim walking past Holt's group, at which point someone tries to grab something out of his pocket. At that point, police say Holt fires a gun.
The victim runs away after shots are fired but ultimately collapses on the ground while police say Holt gets into a Dodge Charger which speeds away from the shooting scene – which was reported stolen by one of Holt's relatives. The vehicle was later found abandoned about an hour later near Grand Avenue South and 31st Street. Inside they found a .40 caliber cartridge that matched the slug that killed the victim along with a pair of shoes with blood on them.
Holt is currently being held on a parole violation for carrying a weapon as a prohibited person. Police say he has a lengthy criminal record including aggravated robbery and weapons offenses.

MINNEAPOLIS -- A 24-year-old Twin Cities man is facing murder charges for fatally shooting a man in April following a fight inside a bar in Minneapolis' Uptown neighborhood.

Leontawan Holt, of Fridley, is charged with second-degree murder in the April 23 shooting of 30-year-old Rayshawn Brown, of St. Paul, court documents filed in Hennepin County show.

According to a criminal complaint, the shooting happened shortly before midnight outside Williams Pub and Peanut Bar, near the busy intersection of Lagoon and Hennepin avenues, a location known for nightlife and, in the last two years, shootings.

Moments before shots rang out, Holt and Brown were both inside the bar, where Holt allegedly punched another bar patron in the face, starting a brawl.

After the brief melee, surveillance video outside the bar showed Holt and Brown passing each other on the sidewalk with their respective groups. As the groups got close to each other, Brown tried to pull something out of his pocket, but not before Holt raised a gun and fired several times.

Brown tired to run away, but collapsed, the video shows. Holt fled the scene.

A nurse who happened to be in the area stopped to help Brown, applying pressure to the gunshot wound on his chest, the complaint states. Yet, paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. He had been carrying a gun.

Investigators say that Holt fled in a car that was stolen from a relative. He was later arrested on a gun charge in violation of his parole.

According to prosecutors, Holt has a lengthy criminal history, including aggravated robbery and weapons convictions. His bail was set at $750,000.

If convicted of the murder charge, he faces up to 40 years in prison. Holt also faces one count of felony gun possession in connection to the fatal shooting.

Earlier this year, Williams Pub and Peanut Bar closed for a period of time in the wake of a different shooting that left a man injured. It wasn't the first time a bar on that block closed in response to gun violence. In 2020, Cowboy Slims shuttered after a mass shooting left 11 people hurt and one person dead.

Authorities have charged a 24-year-old man with a fatal shooting in Uptown nearly two months ago that allegedly started with a dispute in a bar.
Leontawan L. Holt, of Fridley, was charged Thursday in Hennepin County District Court with second-degree intentional murder and illegal weapons possession in connection with the death of Rayshawn E.J. Brown, 30, of St. Paul, on April 23 near S. Hennepin and Lagoon avenues.
Holt remains jailed in lieu of $750,000 bail ahead of a court appearance Friday. Court records do not list an attorney for him.

According to the criminal complaint:

In response to shots being fired shortly before midnight, police arrived and saw Brown on the ground while a "Good Samaritan nurse was applying pressure" to Brown's chest near the entrance to a parking ramp near Hennepin and Girard avenues. Officers took over, but paramedics soon declared Brown dead at the scene.

Holt had a 9-millimeter handgun when Brown died. An autopsy turned up a .40-caliber bullet from his body. Officers at the scene recovered spent cartridge casings from 9-millimeter, .40-caliber and .45-caliber guns.

Video surveillance showed Holt and Brown among those who were inside nearby Williams Pub during a brawl earlier that night.

Brown left the bar at 11:51 p.m., and Holt followed less than two minutes later. The two passed each other on the street moments later, and that's when Holt shot Brown.

Holt got in a vehicle and fled the area, while Brown ran for a short distance before collapsing.

Holt was arrested by Hopkins police and jailed two weeks ago in connection with him violating parole by possessing a gun.

His criminal history in Minnesota includes convictions for first-degree robbery and weapons possession.
