Fight with police lands convicted killer back in jail

He escaped once from a juvenile facility after being jailed in a 1990 murder and served another sentence for auto theft under an alias.
Now, a notorious figure from Flint's violent crack scene is back in custody after a physical run-in with several Flint police officers.
Jermaine Hammond, who escaped from the state's most secure juvenile home after being convicted in a 1990 torture-murder, was jailed Dec. 12 after allegedly fighting with officers and trying to disarm one of them.
He was expected to be arraigned today in Flint District Court on three felony counts and is being held without bond in the Genesee County Jail.

charged in the 1990 crack-related slaying of Lawrence White, 19, who died in the basement of an abandoned house on Mary Street.
White was beaten with a stick, singed with a hot knife, sodomized with a broomstick, bludgeoned with a heavy block and set afire with rubbing alcohol over a missing bag of crack cocaine.
He and a female captive were forced to perform sex acts on each other in a two-day siege that a judge later compared to Nazi war crimes.
The woman, 20, managed to free herself and escape.
Hammond was allowed to plead guilty to first-degree murder in juvenile court and testified against the leader of the drug ring.
He walked away from the Maxey Boys Training School in 1991, only to be arrested under a different name for auto theft later that year.
Under the alias of James E. Hill, Hammond had served nearly all of his prison time on the auto theft charge before authorities realized his true

tify.
Hammond was on parole when he was arrested in the most recent
incident, police said.
Officers were called to an address on E. Hobson Street about 4:25 a.m. Dec. 12 by a woman who identified herself as Hammond's ex-girlfriend and claimed he was kidnapping her, police and court records say.
Hammond became hostile with the responding officers, forcing them to call for backup, the records say.
He refused to cooperate and continued fighting with the officers, punching and scratching them, before they managed to subdue him with a chemical spray, the reports say.
During the struggle, authorities claim, he tried to grab an officer's service weapon. Hammond later became unruly in the city lockup, kicking at the door and struggling with officers, they claim.
Hammond is named a warrant signed Tuesday by Flint District Judge Herman Marable Jr.
He faces two counts of assaulting, resisting or obstructing a police officer, a maximum 2-year prison
offense,
and one count of attempted disarming an officer, which carries up to 5 years in prison.
