Interim Superintendent Ira Rutherford has declared war on the graffiti problem inflicting some Flint School District buildings.

Rutherford directed staff to increase their efforts to wipe out the graffiti problem. In response, the district has doubled the number of workers dealing with the issue.

"I visited some buildings and I was appalled by the graffiti," said Rutherford, who started as interim superintendent Feb 14.

Rutherford is hoping to stop the district's enrollment decline, in part, by making the schools more attractive and he said other efforts are being planned. The graffiti effort shouldn't cost the district any additional dollars because it already has the people and supplies needed to remove the graffiti, Rutherford said.

The number of workers cleaning up graffiti has doubled, from three to six. The employees are currently working on Gundry, N
eithercut, Pierce, and Potter and other buildings.
