Police announce name of suspect in Uptown Lounge shooting

By JEFF REINITZ, Courier Staff Writer

WATERLOO --- Waterloo Police have released the name of the man they say shot and killed Robert Vincent Robinson outside the Uptown Lounge June 6.

And their suspect, 19-year-old Ramale Anton Hunt, has allegedly been at both ends of gun violence earlier this year.

olice announced this morning they have a first-degree murder charge waiting for Hunt, who hasn't been caught. And they are seeking the public's help in finding him.

"If anyone knows the
r
whereabouts of Mr. Hunt, we'd appreciate a phone call," said Capt. Bruce Arends.

H
e said there have been sightings of Hunt reported in different parts of the country since the shooting.

Bond of the murder charge is $2 million, police said. And the court has set more than $100,000 in other bonds against Hunt for failing to appear for court dates in unrelated cases.

Investigators said Robinson and the assailant were inside the Uptown Lounge, which is about two blocks from the police department on Mulberry Street, before the shooting.

At some point there was a disturbance inside the nightclub, but officers won't say if the two were involved.

Then, as patrons were clearing out at closing time, Robinson was gunned down in the parking lot, police sa
id. The attacker fled the scene.

Hunt's name has come up in other recent episodes of gunfire around Waterloo, according to police records.

He allegedly fired a number of shots at
a
passing car in the area of East Fourth and Sumner streets May 4. A crowd of other pedestrians were in the line of fire, but
no injuries were reported, records state.

Police said they found five .25-caliber shell casings in the area, and Hunt was arrested later that week for intimidation and carrying weapons.

He posted bond and was released from jail.

Then on the morning June 3, someone shot a window out of a car parked at 430 Reed St. Hunt was inside the house, as was the car's owner, Denise Bolden, and a 2-year-old child. Other bullet holes were discovered in the car.

No one has been arrested in that incident.

Hunt also has a pending marijuana charge stemming from an October 2002 incident.

His drug trial was scheduled to begin June 8 --- two days
after the Uptown Lounge shooting --- but he never showed up at the courthouse.

A judge issued a $100,000 failure to appear warrant for his arrest.

In the drug case, wh
ich ha
ppened less than a month before Hunt turned 18, a patrol officer witnessed him drop something near a tree on Manson Street in an area known for narcotic
s sales, records state.

The officer found a bag containing seven smaller bags of marijuana. Hunt was arrested, and police found $128 in his front pocket.

A neighbor told police he had been watching Hunt sell drugs most of the afternoon.

Hunt missed a second court date, this time -pre-trial conference for his intimidation and weapons charges, July 12. A failure-to-appear warrant with a $20,000 bond in that case.

Hunt is described as a black male, 19 years old. He is 5 feet 11 inches and 170 pounds.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Waterloo police at 291-2515, 291-4349 or 291-4333 or their local law enforcemen
t agency.
