RICHMOND - A minister convicted of biting a police officer during a traffic stop was given 10 years' probation Monday and ordered to enroll in an anger management program.

On Aug. 25, a Fort Bend County jury found the Rev. Curtis Lucas, 52, guilty of assault on a public servant for attacking Richmond police officer David Evans, who had written him a traffic ticke
.

Evans pulled Lucas over because his car did not have a front license plate. After the officer stopped Lucas, he learned the license plates were expired.

When Lucas refused to sign the ticket
, Evans tried to arrest him and Lucas resisted, biting the officer on the finger.

Lucas
represented himself during the trial despite warnings from state District Judge Thomas R. Culver III that not having a lawyer could be risky.

After the August verdict, Culver sentenced Lucas to two years in prison. But he also ordered that Lucas be brought back to court after 40 days to determine if he was eligible for a special form of probation.

During Monday's hearing, Lucas read a letter of apology.

"If I had to repeat the events of that evening, I would have just signed the ticket," Lucas said in his letter to Evans.

Culver placed Lucas, pastor of Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Richmond, on probation, ordered him to perform 400 hours of community service and fined him
$2,500 plus court costs.

I hope the cop got a rabies shot after being bitten by that wild buck. Bucks are known disease carriers.

Yeah, there should be a price to pay for not shooting and killing the attempted cannibal 8=).
